Panthers DL Tershawn Wharton recalls saving young Chiefs fan in Carolina last season

Panthers DL Tershawn Wharton recalls saving young Chiefs fan in Carolina last season Tershawn Wharton has already made a clutch play at Bank of America Stadium, even before becoming a Carolina Panther. When he was still a Kansas City Chief, specifically on Nov. 24, 2024, Wharton and the then-reigning Super Bowl champions visited Charlotte for a Week 12 matchup with the Panthers. Following the closely-contested battle, one that nearly saw the underdog (Carolina) pull out a shocking upset, the fifth-year defensive lineman caught a young Chiefs fan who fell from the stands. Wharton, who can now call the scene of his heroics "home," was asked about his big catch during his introductory press conference on Wednesday. "One of the fans called my name over in that section," he stated. "I just seen him coming down and when I seen him come down, it was just a natural reaction to go catch him." Wharton was also asked if he's stayed in touch with the lucky youngster since the fortuitous interaction. "And yeah, we were in contact," Wharton added. "He was a big Chiefs fan, so the family traveled with the team. The following game, he came out to K.C. and I was able to meet him and I gave him a jersey." Carolina agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with Wharton at the start of the legal tampering period. The 26-year-old is fresh off a career campaign—where tallied bests in starts (10), combined tackles (29), sacks (6.5), quarterback hits (11) and passes defensed (two). Oh . . . and he also had that one reception, of course.

Steve Smith Sr.'s son responds to 'hate' after allegations about his dad

It's been a rough few days for the family of former NFL wideout Steve Smith Sr., to say the least. There are allegations about infidelity, with someone on X (formerly Twitter) accusing the former Carolina Panther and Baltimore Raven of having an affair with his wife. Smith Sr. hasn't responded directly since the accusations, but his son, Peyton Smith, wrote an Instagram post with this message: 'Your kind words and prayers are felt and appreciated. God's got us. I won't take much time feeding into the negativity, but to those sending hateful messages to my family, I hope you take time to reflect that you have nothing better to do with your day than to message hate to a stranger.'

Former Panthers DE Jared Allen named to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Steve Smith Sr. and Luke Kuechly may not have gotten their knocks this year, but at least another former Carolina Panther is headed to the Hall. Advertisement On Thursday night, defensive end Jared Allen was named one of four members for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2025 class. He will be inducted this summer alongside Sterling Sharpe, Eric Allen and Antonio Gates. Allen played the final 14 games of his NFL career with the Panthers, who traded for the then-33-year-old pass rusher in the middle of the 2015 campaign. That year saw Carolina go 15-1 in the regular season en route to their second-ever Super Bowl appearance. Prior to his short stint in Charlotte, Allen split his first 11 years (and part of his 12th) between the Kansas City Chiefs (2004 to 2008), the Minnesota Vikings (2008 to 2013) and the Chicago Bears (2014 to 2015). The former fourth-round pick, who led the league in sacks in 2007 and 2011, finished with four first-team All-Pro selections and five Pro Bowl nods.
