Baltimore Ravens select imposing tackle from HBCU
Carson Vinson, a standout offensive tackle from HBCU Alabama A&M, was selected in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. His selection marks another important milestone for HBCU football, as Vinson was the first player selected in this draft who played his entire career at his HBCU. Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 314 pounds, Vinson caught the eyes of NFL scouts throughout the pre-draft process. His strong showing at the Senior Bowl reinforced what HBCU fans had seen for years-a dominant left tackle with NFL potential. Vinson also performed well at the NFL Combine, posting a 5.12-second 40-yard dash and 24 reps on the bench press, further strengthening his case as a mid-round prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. During his four-year career at Alabama A&M, Vinson made 48 starts and earned First-Team All-SWAC honors, consistently showcasing the talent that exists across HBCU football. His participation at Alabama's Pro Day, working out alongside players from one of the top NFL talent factories, helped amplify his exposure to decision-makers ahead of the NFL Draft. Vinson's journey shows that there is still a path for athletes who spend their entire careers at HBCUs to get drafted. Strategically using Senior Bowl appearances, NFL Combine invites, and high-profile pro days to boost his profile. His fifth-round selection by the Ravens is not only a personal win but a powerful statement for HBCU players who want to stay where they are and still land in the NFL Draft he will look to help protect Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. As more HBCU athletes like Vinson make their way to the next level, their success stories will continue to inspire and motivate others from HBCU programs aiming for the NFL. Baltimore's decision to invest in Carson Vinson proves that the pipeline from HBCU football to the NFL Draft remains viable, if less traveled. Chiefs scouting report: Alabama A&M Bulldogs OT Carson Vinson
The Kansas City Chiefs signed left tackle Jaylon Moore in free agency to stabilize their pass protection. Moore is a nice short-term addition but doesn't move the needle when projecting ahead several years. The Chiefs should invest in at least one developmental offensive tackle in the 2025 NFL draft. Alabama A&M Bulldogs left tackle Carson Vinson is a massive 6'7 1/8", 314 lb. prospect with more than 3,400 collegiate offensive snaps under his belt. He turned heads at the Senior Bowl earlier this year by measuring in with 35 1/8" arms and a 6'11 3/4" wingspan. Despite his significant experience in college, Vinson is a long-term project who needs several years to develop before competing for snaps. Advertisement Vinson's measurables and movement skills check all the boxes. He's a smooth athlete with massive hands that defenders struggle to combat. Vinson loads and shoots his hands with jarring power to stun and re-route pass rushers. His grip strength locks down defensive linemen and prevents them from continuing their rush plans. Vinson moves well in space and rolls power through his hips when he contacts defenders. He churns his legs through contact to displace linemen or pancake linebackers. Vinson is a freaky athlete but lacks technical polish. His kick step leaves his outside shoulder vulnerable to speed rushes. His hands land wide, exposing his chest, and lack the consistent pop to dent pass rushers. Vinson plays top heavy, overextending when he attempts to initiate contact in the pass and run games. He struggles to keep blocks framed despite possessing an arm length advantage against most opponents. Advertisement Vinson plays at the level of a late Day 3 selection, but his outstanding physical tools and developmental upside as a small school prospect suggest he could go as high as the fourth round. The Chiefs may need to trade back from pick 95 into the top of the fourth round to secure Vinson at a cost-effective spot. Breaking down the Steelers picks in new mock draft
Breaking down the Steelers picks in new mock draft The folks over at the Pro Football Network have a brand new seven-round mock draft out and we are going to break down all the picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL scouting combine is going strong, so we will be paying close attention to the guys we like at the combine and if they land with the Steelers in the 2025 NFL draft. First round - WR Luther Burden III - Missouri The Steelers are going to have a hard time convincing a free-agent receiver to sign with this offense so drafting a player like Burden makes perfect sense. Second round - RB Quinshon Judkins - Ohio State Assuming Najee Harris leaves in free agency, adding Judkins is a perfect fit. Third round - CB Jacob Parrish - Kansas State One of the most athletic cornerbacks in the draft and a very polished boundary corner. Fourth round - QB Will Howard - Ohio State We love Howard but we doubt he's still on the board this late once the draft gets here. Fifth round - G Carson Vinson - Alabama A&M Carson Vinson is a very smart football player and more than held his own at the Senior Bowl. Seventh round - DT Yahya Black - Iowa Black won't wow anyone with his athleticism but a huge run stuffer this late in the draft is great news for the Steelers. Seventh round - WR Efton Chism III - Eastern Washington We love Chism this late. He is incredibly productive, has elite hands and lit up the competition at the Shrine Bowl. Seventh round - OT Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan - Oregon State One of the most underrated offensive line prospects in the draft. Huge strongside OT with great pass protection skills.
