Sheer bliss of Man U fans

Pop-up Trafford Den in Kuala Lumpur is a hub for Manchester United fans to connect with each other, share their love for the club and meet some stars as the Red Devils stopped by Malaysia on their Asian tour. — Photos: LOW BOON TAT/The Star THEir favourite team might have lost the friendly to the Asean All-Stars, but for many local Manchester United fans, this has proven to be quite a special week in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia's capital was chosen as the first stop on the Red Devils' visit to Asia this off-season. And while they were beaten 1-0 by the 'home team', it turned out to be a rather joyous occasion as fans paid tribute to the stars – boldly and unashamedly showing their passion, pride and unwavering loyalty. As the official beer partner of Man United, Tiger Beer brought pop-up Trafford Den to life, depicting just what it means to be a fan of the club in Malaysia. Set in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Trafford Den was the Theatre of Dreams come true for fans as they had the chance to connect, listen to and relive their football moments with star players in attendance. It led some to declare: 'This is testimony that distance is no barrier for Man United and the fans here in Malaysia. 'This is a great experience made possible by Tiger Beer and the stars who visited.' (From left) Shaw, Heaton, Dalot, Nani, Casemiro and Sneep with the banner signed by fans. Going along with the sponsors' tagline, the fans 'uncaged their tiger, where every cheer and every roar echoed the spirit of boldness and passion.' The atmosphere heightened when Man United players Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Diogo Dalot, Tom Heaton and club legend Nani dropped in for a meet-and-greet session prior to the match. And the guests of honour did not disappoint – there were great cheers and photographs taken, with autographs signed freely. There was an overwhelming sense of togetherness, and a supporter who identified himself only as Ben said, 'Just like the club itself, we the United fans stand stronger and together.' A huge Tiger Beer and Man United banner was signed by the fans as a tribute to the club, which will head to Old Trafford to proudly showcase the passion of Malaysian football supporters. A supporter says the event proves that distance is no barrier to Manchester United fans. Heineken Malaysia marketing manager Julie Kuan said: 'Tiger Beer has always stood for boldness and connection, and with Trafford Den, we brought that to life in a way that truly resonated with the club and all it stands for. 'We didn't just bring Man United fans closer to the club, we brought to life the trinity of football fandom – connection, recognition and loyalty.' She said Tiger Beer created the platform, Manchester United embraced the passion and the fans showed up with unwavering pride. 'It was all about feeling seen, being heard and part of something much bigger. 'Because when fans uncage their 'tiger' and come together, they roar louder – and that spirit of Old Trafford isn't just in Manchester, it lives wherever Tiger Beer is.' Hong Kong 1 Man Utd 3: Chido Obi scores first United goals to avoid total embarrassment against former star's minnows

FINALLY, once and for all, Manchester United can wave goodbye to their nightmare 2024/25 campaign after the conclusion of their post-season tour in Asia. The Red Devils, playing in their second friendly of the tour against the Hong Kong national team, ended their season with a hopeful whimper as they laboured to a 3-1 win in Asia. 4 4 4 4 Chido Obi's second-half brace and Ayden Heaven's late header spared their blushes after they fell 1-0 behind before the break, with Ruben Amorim given food for thought on the potential use of the club's next generation going into next season. A team full of stars expected to leave this summer were paired with a group of youngsters fresh out of the academy to start the clash. The old guard included the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, as well as flop squad Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho. Casemiro thought he had put Ruben Amorim's side in the lead after five minutes as he scored a header from a pinpoint Bruno Fermandes cross, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Man Utd looked calm enough in possession after that, with Jayden Kamason producing a bright move down the right flank and Shea Lacey going close after a Garnacho cut-back. But as has been the case on numerous occasions this season, Amorim's side were made to pay for their lack of cutting edge and were undone by a goalkeeper howler. Hong Kong star Juninho was played in behind the defence and was forced wide by Godwill Kukonki. However, the subsequent shot somehow managed to go into the back of the net as the shot went under Heaton and into the net. That was Hong Kong's one and only shot of the entire half, but for United it was more of the same afterwards. Dominating the ball, effectively camped in the opposition half and yet unable to find a way past goalkeeper Ka Wing Tse. Glum Man Utd stars take part in humiliating 'open-top bus parade' with no trophy and hardly any fans After conceding the rain started hammering down on the Hong Kong Stadium, quite the thematic weather event for the clash considering the "never rains it pours" season the Red Devils have had. A drinks break in the 27th minute saw Amorim make his first changes, with Tyler Fletcher and Sekou Kone replacing Lacey and Casemiro. Close to half-time Fernandes tried to treat fans to what could be one last but of skill by attempting a cheeky rabona shot, but saw the shot saved. The captain caught the rebound and tried to lay it off to Hojlund who was slightly out of position before the clearance fell to another United star crashing in to shoot, only for that shot to be cleared off the line. Fredricson was able to get a free header at goal from a pinpoint Fernandes corner, but the contact was not clean and went straight at the goalkeeper. The final chance of the half saw a Fernandes shot blocked after a good press combo between him, Kone and Garnacho. Man Utd's own TV channel had had enough as well as the match footage froze at the end of injury time before Amorim completely changed the XI for the second half. Those changes immediately proved fruitful as Obi netted with his weak foot after Manuel Ugarte poked the ball to him on the edge of the area, with the teenager taking two touches to the left and lashing the ball into the net just four minutes following his introduction. The wide combination of Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo on the right and Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu on the left proved to be a dangerous pairing with both sides causing plenty of issues for the hosts. Obi almost added a second a few minutes later when he was found by Mount in the area, but the ball went just wide of the mark. Hong Kong then caught United sleeping on the break and almost made it two goals from as many shot, but where Heaton was found wanting in the first half Altay Bayindir managed to save the ball following some heroic last-ditch defending by the fresh-faced United defence - whose oldest member was 18-year-old Heaven. In the closing stages, Obi added his second with a perfectly placed glancing header from a Mount cross. The game lost its tempo after that, with Heaven directing a header into the goal deep in injury time. The positive from this game is that there is clearly some talent in the academy which could be useful next season to fill the gaps in the squad. But most importantly, everyone involved can now get away and reset on the summer break.

(AP Photo/Vincent Thian) KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Manchester United began an offseason tour after its worst Premier League season in almost expected fashion, losing its first match against a Southeast Asian all-star team 1-0 in Kuala Lumpur. The reaction was swift on Thursday, and from one of the highest places in the land. Advertisement Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim suggested that Manchester United could be relegated after watching the visitors lose, despite the fact they were probably affected by jet lag. 'Ouch. Man United failed to win another trophy,' Ibrahim, one of 72,500 fans at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in the Malaysian capital, wrote on social media in a post translated from Malay. 'Looks like you're in for another tough season, hope you don't drop to the Championship,' he added, referring to England's second tier into which the bottom three teams in the 20-team Premier League drop into every season. On Sunday, United finished 15th in the Premier League, its lowest ever ranking in the competition, just four days after a loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur meant that its European season ended without a trophy. Advertisement Myanmar's Maung Maung Lwin scored the only goal of the game Wednesday after 72 minutes to give a team made up of top players from around the southeast Asian region the win. 'To face one of the world's top clubs and deliver such a performance — it was truly remarkable from the team,' said All-Stars coach Kim Sang-sik. 'We only trained for two days, but the players looked like they had been playing together for 20 years. The team were well-organized and cohesive.' Manchester United continues its tour in Hong Kong on Friday before matches in Sweden and the United States. ___ AP soccer:

Fuming Ruben Amorim claims Man Utd stars ‘choke in EVERY game' after hitting new low with ASEAN All-Stars loss

RUBEN AMORIM has blasted his Manchester United flops once again by saying they "choke in every game". The Red Devils suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars in a post-season friendly today. 2 2 Amorim named a strong starting XI that featured the likes of Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund before making 11 changes at half-time. But United were beaten in front of a 70,000 crowd in Malaysia as Myanmar international Maung Maung Lwin netted the winner. After the final whistle, Amorim said: "Yes, a disappointing result, but no injuries and a tough pitch. "We don't have it in us not to choke in every exercise, in every game, that is what happened. "We should win these kind of games, no matter what. We need to bring that inside of us in every game. "The important thing is no injuries with this weather and to arrive here in this day. It is not an excuse, we should perform better." Amorim went on to praise the club's youngsters, saying: "I liked the young kids, they try. That's enough for me in the moment. "They want to play more but we have to rotate everybody to play. They did well." JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS In his post-match press conference, Amorim continued: "We need to win every game, every exercise. It's something we need to push for the players. "But the way I play is the same as other coaches. You have an idea and stick with your ideas. You can change something but I'm just one more coach who reached this level by believing in certain things. "We will, of course, need to improve but I'm really confident. "I feel always guilty. I said that in the last game. I'm always guilty of the performance of the team. No matter what. Since I'm here for the first day, I am guilty."

Manchester United embarrassed by Kuala Lumpur defeat on end-of-season tour

Manchester United's post-season tour followed their late-season form as Ruben Amorim's team lost 1-0 to a scratch team of Asean All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur. United's latest defeat, part of a lucrative end-of-season tour in the wake of their 15th-placed finish in the Premier League, came after the players had been paraded through the streets of the Malaysian capital. Three days after closing out their Premier League campaign with a controversial victory against Aston Villa, a much-changed United team faced a side pulled together for a one-off occasion. Harry Maguire led the team. Casemiro, Patrick Dorgu, André Onana, Ayden Heaven, Diogo Dalot, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Højlund started while Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, both linked with summer moves, played from the bench as part of 11 half-time changes. It was Maung Maung Lwin, a Burmese winger for Thai League 1 club Lamphun Warriors, who netted a 71st-minute winner for the south-east Asian team. United could not shake off their season's travails, including last week's loss in the Europa League final, and played disjointedly. Several youth products were given their turn, which heartened Amorim amid his disappointment at the result. He said: 'No injuries and a tough pitch. We don't have it in us not to choke in every exercise, in every game – that is what happened. We should win these kind of games, no matter what. We need to bring that inside of us in every game. 'The important thing is no injuries with this weather and to arrive here in this day. It is not an excuse, we should perform better. I liked the young kids, they try. That's enough for me in the moment. They want to play more but we have to rotate everybody to play. They did well.' United play another friendly in Hong Kong on Friday to end a tour reportedly set to earn the club £8m. Before Wednesday's opening game, club CEO, Omar Berrada, had put a positive spin on United's end to the season, and what lies ahead in the transfer window. 'I can't talk about specifics, but I can say that we've been planning for many months now,' Berrarda told MUTV. 'We were ready for all the different scenarios, so now we know what we need to do. Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion 'We have a very clear idea of where we need to invest in the squad to improve, so [technical director] Jason [Wilcox], his team, Ruben, have been in talks for many months. Now it's a question of executing that plan and doing it in a way that is prudent but at the same time with ambition.'
