BBC's popular celebrity antiques show 'put on hold' after 15 years
The BBC have reportedly decided to pause a celebrity version of a popular antiques show after 15 years on air, with the show being 'rested' for the remainder of the year The BBC is rumoured to have discreetly put a fan-favourite show on hold after 15 years of broadcast. While the original programme will continue, its celebrity spin-off has reportedly been removed from the regular schedule. Celebrity Antiques Road Trip is thought to be on hiatus for the rest of the year. The show features two celebrities competing against each other as they traverse the country in search of hidden treasures to later auction off. The chosen celebrities are typically stars who are familiar with each other, or have previously worked together or competed against each other. Regrettably for viewers, the celebrity version of the show has now been put on hold. An insider told The Sun Online: "Celebrity Antiques Road Trip has proved a popular show for the BBC, but the focus right now is the original version of the show. A final decision hasn't been made on its future just yet, but it's definitely being rested for the remainder of the year and bosses will reassess in 2026." The BBC told the Mirror they were not commenting on the rumours at this time. Celebrity Antiques Road Trip first aired in 2011 as a spin-off to the much-loved staple programme Antiques Road Trip which debuted a year earlier, reports the Express. Narrated by Tim Wonnacott, the series gives two antiques experts a week's budget of £1,500 each to travel across the country - in a fabulous classic car - and purchase antiques and collectibles that are then sold at auction. Each star is teamed up with a specialist, and the celebrity pair are given a tight budget to hunt for hidden treasures. The victor is determined by who makes the most profit at an auction at the end of the episode. Famous faces that have graced the programme include Richard Osman with his current wife Ingrid Oliver, while Gemma Collins faced off against Melvin Odoom. Kelly Brook, Denise Van Outen and Danny Dyer, to mention a few.

The BBC has quietly shelved a beloved daytime show after 15 years on air in a gutting blow to fans. While offshoots of the programme have been confirmed for new episodes, the celebrity version has been put to one side. Celebrity Antiques Road Trip followed two celebs as they scoured the country for hidden treasures in the hope of fetching high prices at a later auction. The chosen personalities typically knew each other or had previously worked or competed side by side, so the element of competition was ripe and made for great watching. But avid viewers have been dealt a blow as the broadcaster revealed the show has now been shelved. A source told Sun Online: 'Celebrity Antiques Road Trip has proved a popular show for the BBC, but the focus right now is the original version of the show. 'A final decision hasn't been made on its future just yet, but it's definitely being rested for the remainder of the year and bosses will reassess in 2026.' It comes as the future of two other antiquing shows was confirmed by the BBC last week. Antiques Road Trip has amassed 31 series since its debut in 2010, quickly becoming a fan-favourite and staple of the TV schedule. Now bosses have confirmed the hit format's fate as its host released an emotional statement to fans. They've officially green-lit a 32nd series, with 20 brand new episodes of the afternoon show ordered. Meanwhile, in a further update, the broadcaster has also revealed the Travelling Auctioneers will return for a fifth series. Since its launch in 2022, it's gained a cult following and established itself as a major part of the BBC's daytime output. Izzie Balmer, JB Broad and Bee Harford are back for series five, along with restoration maestros JJ Chalmers, Robin Johnson, Lauren Wood and Saf Fakir. Speaking about its return, host Izzie Balmer said: 'The Antiques Road Trip and Travelling Auctioneers teams have become like family to me. In fact, I sometimes see them more than my actual family… 'I wouldn't have it any other way though, because these shows are great fun, full of heart, and have just the right amount of jeopardy to keep you on the edge of your seat… without spilling your cuppa! I know how much they mean to our viewers and I'm thrilled to be back filming on them both.' Muslim Alim, Commissioning Editor for BBC Daytime and Early Peak, said: 'These shows are TV gold packed with great stories, brilliant finds and led by experts in their field. 'Antiques Road Trip and The Travelling Auctioneers have become firm favourites with our audiences and it's easy to see why: they're warm, feel-good and endlessly entertaining. 'I'm absolutely thrilled we're bringing them back and hugely grateful to the top-tier talent at STV Studios who make them so special.' Izzie Balmer previously revealed how her TV career wasn't initially the path she thought she'd end up on. She had originally wanted to be a musician and attended music college before realising it wasn't right. Speaking to Great British Life, Izzie confessed: 'I planned to be a professional musician but didn't enjoy music college. It wasn't for me.' Her move to Bargain Hunt was then fairly spontaneous as she stepped in for her boss to auctioneer on the show when no other auctioneers were available. I had to auction the Bargain Hunt lots in front of the cameras.' It was her mother Sheila who encouraged her to go into the antiques business full time after graduating and moving back home to look for a job. After some work experience she secured a full-time job at a local auction house. Then after becoming a regular on the hit show Antiques Road Trip, she landed a full-time role. This ignited a passion that led her to study at Birmingham's School of Jewellery. In a 2019 interview with Bristol Post, she revealed: 'I kind of fell into this job but I absolutely love it. 'I have always loved jewellery and been a fan of sparkly things, like most girls. I cannot think of anything I would rather do.'
