India issues tsunami advisory for citizens in US West Coast and Hawaii after massive Russia quake
Tsunami warnings issued across Pacific Russia confirms no fatalities Nuclear facilities safe Historical context and seismic activity The Consulate General of India in San Francisco has issued a public advisory for Indian nationals residing along the US West Coast and in Hawaii following an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck near Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific. Indian citizens in affected regions have been advised to follow local alerts, avoid coastal areas, and prepare for emergencies. The Consulate has activated an emergency helpline: + earthquake, which occurred early Wednesday, is one of the strongest recorded globally since the 2011 Japan disaster. It was centered approximately 119 kilometers east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a city of around 180,000 people in Russia's Far East. The US Geological Survey reported the quake at a depth of 20.7 kilometers. Aftershocks reaching up to 6.9 magnitude Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirmed a tsunami was generated and warned of potential damage across Hawaii's coastlines. "Urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property," the Center stated, adding that initial waves were expected around 7 p.m. Tuesday local the US, tsunami advisories were issued for Oregon, California, Washington, and parts of Canada. The Oregon Department of Emergency Management warned of possible waves up to 2 feet and urged people to stay off beaches, harbors, and marinas. 'This is not a major tsunami, but dangerous currents and strong waves may pose a risk to those near the water,' the department were triggered in Honolulu, and residents moved to higher ground. In Japan, a tsunami of 40 centimeters was recorded in Tokachi, Hokkaido. Authorities there and in the Philippines, where waves of less than 1 meter were forecast, advised residents to steer clear of coastal waters. New Zealand also issued alerts for 'strong and unusual currents' and advised people to avoid all officials reported damage in the Kamchatka region and evacuation in several coastal areas, including Severo-Kurilsk in the Kuril Islands. Governor Valery Limarenko said, 'Residents are safe and staying on high ground until the threat of a repeat wave is gone.'Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky saw structural damage, temporary power outages, and mobile disruptions. The regional Health Ministry reported that some residents sought medical help but confirmed no serious nuclear power operators confirmed there were no abnormalities. Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, responsible for the Fukushima plant, said around 4,000 workers had taken shelter on higher ground while continuing remote was the strongest quake in the Kamchatka region since a 9.0-magnitude quake in 1952, which caused 30-foot waves in Hawaii but no reported deaths. The Russian Geophysical Survey warned that aftershocks could persist for up to a month and cautioned against visiting some coastal zones. New Delhi: Turkey has successfully tested its most powerful non-nuclear bombs GAZAP and NEB-2 Ghost. Turkey released a video of the tests of these bombs on July 26-27 during the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 fair held in Istanbul. Why are these bombs so dangerous? Both bombs weigh 970 kg (about 2,000 pounds). They have been designed by the Research and Development (R&D) Center of the Ministry of Defense of Turkey. GAZAP is equipped with a thermobaric warhead. These bombs can be dropped from F-16 fighter jets. The footage shows that this bomb can affect an area of hundreds of square meters. It contains 10 thousand special particles, which spread at a rate of 10.6 particles per square meter after the explosion. The Turkish Defense Ministry said that all the tests of both the bombs have been completed and now it is ready for use. What is Turkey's military development and preparation for? iOS 26 public beta is here — 5 settings you need to change first
Now that the iOS 26 public beta is available, more people can preview Apple's latest mobile software ahead of its final release later this fall. I've been using the iOS 26 beta ever since it was released shortly after WWDC 2025, and if you've already hit that install button for the public beta, you're in store for a big surprise. There's obviously a lot of buzz around the big makeover that Apple's implementing, but not all the new changes and additions make for a more meaningful experience. That's why I want to share the settings I think you need to change first soon after installing the iOS 26 public beta. Of course, Apple could continue to change stuff with subsequent public beta updates. But for now, you'll get more out of the experience by adjusting these settings. As much as Liquid Glass adds depth and separation with its new material design, there are instances when Liquid Glass looks messy. Case in point, when you access Control Center and how the transparency of the interface makes it look too confusing. Just take a look at the shot above! In order to make Liquid Glass more suitable, I recommend enabling the setting for reduce transparency to make Liquid Glass less transparent — and it's quite easy. Just got the general Settings menu, select Accessibility, then Display & Text Size, and finally hit the toggle for Reduce Transparency. Once it's enabled, you'll see how Liquid Glass elements around the interface will have more of an opaque appearance instead of being transparent. Whether you're for or against the new Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 series, you might notice after installing the iOS 26 public beta that its behavior has changed. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. While pressing on the button launches the camera app, the other Camera Control gestures could be disabled. I'm referring to the two-press gesture used to switch between the various modes. You'll want to restore it back to its original setting by enabling the setting for Camera Control adjustments. Simply navigate to general Settings, then proceed to Camera. From here, select Camera Control and enable the toggle for Camera Adjustments under Controls. In addition to reenabling all of the Camera Control adjustments, you can also customize the gestures and the hierarchy of the controls. Shortly after I installed the iOS 26 developers beta, I noticed my battery life taking a big hit on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. I'm not really surprised by this, seeing that battery saving optimizations are a work in progress with any beta software. However, there's one setting that will help out with exactly this. It's the new "adaptive power" mode in iOS 26 that aims to extend the battery life of your compatible iPhone. There are optimizations with this mode that helps to extend your iPhone's battery life by doing things such as lowering the screen brightness — or 'allowing some activities to take a little longer.' You can enable adaptive power mode by going into Settings, Battery, and then Power Mode. There's a toggle for adaptive power that you select to enable it. Apple changes the look of Safari with the iOS 26 public beta, namely the toolbar and tabs. The look with the default setting makes the toolbar appear as minimalist as they come, with it almost disappearing when you begin to scroll web sites. I prefer the Safari toolbar to be a bit more prominent, which is why you'll want to change the setting to change its layout. You can do this quickly by going into the Settings, then scroll down to Apps. Once there, you'll have to scroll all the way down until you see Safari (or just type Safari into the search box), and then find the section for 'tabs' halfway down the page. You have three options: compact, bottom, and top. The iOS 26 public beta defaults to compact, but I'd suggest changing it to top if you bottom to make the toolbar a bit bigger so that it's easier to see. This one may not be as pressing, but I know it's something that annoys me because when I go into my photo library, I want to see everything — including the screenshots I capture. With iOS 26, the Photos app gets another redesign, but I've noticed that screenshots aren't shown under my photo library. Instead, they're populated within the Screenshots folder under the collections tab, but I also want to see them in the main library. You can easily get them to show up by tapping on the filter icon on the top right indicated by the three horizontal lines icon, then tap on View Options, and finally press on screenshots to show there's a checkmark on it.
