Alvaro Morata links up with former Spain teammate in Serie A return

Former Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata will be back in Serie A next season but with a new challenge. The 32-year-old has endured a frustrating 2025 on the back of a superb 2024 as he captained Spain to the UEFA Euro 2024 title. In a bold move, he opted to leave Atletico Madrid and join AC Milan ahead of the 2024/25 season in a move he later admitted regret over making. After struggling for consistency at the San Siro, he was loaned to Galatasaray mid-season, and won the Turkish title. However, Galatasaray are not looking to keep him, and there is no place back at AC Milan, as he options begin to narrow. Image via AFP. Morata is no stranger to moving around and he is on course for another change as former Spain teammate Cesc Fabregas looks to lure him to Como. Fabregas enjoyed a solid first-ever season coaching in Serie A and reports from Marca indicate he wants to bring in Morata on a season-long loan for 2025/26 to add experience to his attack. Morata is open to the change, if AC Milan can agree a wage sharing package with Como for the next 12 months, as he aims to lead Spain's attack at the World Cup in 2026. Luis de la Fuente has consistently backed Morata as his captain, after some poor recent showings for the national side, and a missed penalty in their Nations League final loss to Portugal. De la Fuente admitted he is unsure if Morata will be involved in September's camp, as World Cup qualification kicks off, with the decision left to his No.7. If Fabregas can reignited him, Morata's role with Spain remains vital, as the focal point in between the electric duo of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams in the La Roja front line.

Perrone seals £13m permanent Como move

Manchester City have sold midfielder Maximo Perrone to Italian side Como in a deal worth up to £13m. The 22-year-old Argentine made only two senior appearances after joining City from Velez Sarafield for about £8m in January 2023. Perrone spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Las Palmas in La Liga and the 2024-25 campaign at Como, making 26 appearances and helping them finish 10th in Italy's top flight under former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas. It is understood the deal includes a 30% sell-on clause and a buy-back option for City. "My time at Manchester City has come to an end but I'd like to thank everyone at the club for their support and guidance," said Perrone. "I am excited for this new adventure and I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future."

Manchester City sell midfielder as Pep Guardiola's clearout continues

Manchester City have sold midfielder Maximo Perrone to Como in a deal that could make them up to €15m (£13m) as Pep Guardiola continues to trim his squad. City also have a buyback clause for the 22-year-old midfielder and a 30 percent sell-on clause for when he leaves the Italian club. The fee they will receive for Perrone in effect offsets the transfer fee they paid for Sverre Nypan, the 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder who completed his £12.5m move to the Etihad Stadium on Thursday. Perrone impressed Como manager Cesc Fabregas while on loan there last season, helping the promoted club finish 10th in Serie A. The Argentinian, who was bought from Velez Sarsfield in January 2023, only made two senior appearances for City, both as a substitute, amounting to 25 minutes on the pitch. He came on for the last 18 minutes of a 4-1 win at Bournemouth in 2023 and the final two minutes of a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Bristol City. Guardiola has said he thinks he has 'too many players' and wants to work with a smaller group and Perrone could be followed by further departures. City have parted company with two former captains with Kevin de Bruyne joining Napoli after his contract expired and Kyle Walker going to Burnley for a fee that could rise to £5m. City are also willing to sell Jack Grealish and James McAtee, with the England Under-21 captain attracting plenty of interest.
