Rajinikanth Wanted to Marry Sridevi, Planned To Confess Feelings At A Party
Last Updated: Rajinikanth once planned to tell Sridevi he loved her — until a blackout changed everything. The untold story behind the love story. Before ChaalBaaz and all the cinematic magic they created together, there was a quiet love story that never made it to the big screen — or anywhere else. It belonged to Rajinikanth, and it was never told until now. Long before Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor, Rajinikanth reportedly had feelings for her. They weren't just a popular film pairing — they were a duo that worked in over a dozen films across languages, lighting up screens with natural chemistry. But off-screen, things were more complicated. According to filmmaker K. Balachander, who launched both their careers, Rajinikanth once planned to confess his feelings at Sridevi's housewarming party. He arrived ready to tell her. Then, the lights went out — literally. The house was plunged into darkness. Being superstitious, Rajinikanth took it as a sign to walk away. And he did. Without saying a word. He never brought it up again. Their journey started in 1976 on the set of Moondru Mudichu. Sridevi was just 13, playing Rajinikanth's stepmother. It was her first lead role and his breakout performance in Tamil cinema. Over time, they developed a bond of mutual respect — something deeper than just co-stars. Rajinikanth remained close to her family, especially her mother. Years later, when Rajinikanth fell seriously ill while shooting Rana, Sridevi reportedly fasted and prayed for his recovery. Seven days. Quietly, privately — the same way their story had always been. In 1996, she married someone else. And Rajinikanth never said a word about the love he once carried. Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor in 1996, and the couple had two daughters — Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Janhvi followed her mother's path into acting, while Khushi also recently entered the film industry. Sridevi's sudden passing in February 2018 at the age of 54 shocked the entire nation. She died of accidental drowning in a hotel bathtub in Dubai, where she had travelled for a family wedding. Her death was widely mourned across India, with tributes pouring in from fans, celebrities, and political leaders alike. Rajinikanth, meanwhile, married Latha Rajinikanth in 1981. They have two daughters — Aishwarya Rajinikanth, a filmmaker, and Soundarya Rajinikanth, who works as a producer and graphic designer. Shefali Shah on stereotyping in films: Dug my grave playing wife to much older man
Actor Shefali Shah recently shared her views on how women are stereotyped in cinema. She further confessed how the OTT has changed the entire game altogether. Shah also opened up about the industry's ageist mindset and how roles for women drastically shrink once they cross a certain actor spoke about the same at the Women Summit during her session titled: Begums of Binge: How Streaming is Empowering Women alongside actor Bhumi Pednekar and Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix. Shefali recalled the challenges of being typecast early on and how the advent of OTT platforms finally gave her the space to flourish as a leading actor in her feel lucky because, at one point, there was simply no space for women in cinema after a certain age. After 25 or 28, you are considered inconsequential. I know that might sound rude, but it's the truth. If you look back at the films of the '60s, women of all ages were celebrated. If you take a look at films like 'Chandni' or 'ChaalBaaz', for instance, the heroines were fierce, powerful, and appreciated for who they were.' She further added, 'Then came a phase where a woman's role was reduced to merely being eye candy. She was there to beautify the screen. It's sad that makers didn't realise that women have so much more to offer. After marriage and children, it was like, go home, your part is done.'Having said that, Shah looked back on the time when she played the role of Amitabh Bachchan's wife in 'Waqt: The Race Against Time' at an early age.'I dug my own grave when I played the mother or wife to a much older man. If someone had told me I'd be playing lead roles in my 40s, I would've laughed it off. And yet, it actually happened. What changed everything for me was OTT. I only wish it had come earlier as I lost out on a lot,' she on the work front, Shefali Shah will next be seen in 'Delhi Crime' Season 3. 'Delhi Crime' is directed and written by Tanuj Chopra. It is bankrolled by Apoorva Bakshi, Michael Hogan, Florence Sloan, Aaron Kaplan, Jeff Sagansky, Matt Aragachi, Sanjay Bachani, Pooja Kohli, Kilian Kerwin, Shefali Shah, and Tanuj Chopra. Other than Shah, the series will also mark the return of Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang.- EndsMust Watch

Aftab Shivdasani Once Spoke About Facing Casting Couch: 'He Used To Call Me Late At Night…'
Aftab Shivdasani once revealed that he faced casting couch during early days in his career. Ram Gopal Varma gave him his big break in Mast with Urmila Matondkar. Actor Aftab Shivdasani started his acting career as a child artist, having starred in films such as Mr India, Shahenshah, and ChaalBaaz. He then took a break and returned to the film industry, only to restart his career with modelling and ad gigs. It was during that phase in life when the actor admitted to facing the casting couch. Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi, together, appeared as guests on Riteish Deshmukh and Sajid Khan's game show, Yaaron Ki Baraat. During a segment on the show, Aftab shared his ordeal when a renowned personality from the entertainment industry would call him late at nights and ask him to visit him at a hotel. Upon realising the intent, the Kasoor actor stopped entertaining him. Aftab said on the show, 'When I was not an actor and was doing music videos and modelling assignments, I visited a person who promised me a film. He used to call me late night, kept me hanging. Later on, I realised that it's a hoax and stopped picking his calls. And the guy was a very well known personality and I can't name him here. I did meet him once or twice but later I stopped when his intentions became clear." For the unversed, casting couch refers to the exploitative practice where people in positions of power in the entertainment industry demand sexual favours from aspiring actors in exchange for roles or career opportunities. It's widely condemned as unethical and abusive. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma gave Aftab Shivdasani his first big break in Mast, co-starring Urmila Matondkar in 1999. In a conversation with ETimes, Aftab clarified that his background as a child actor had no connection to him landing the lead role in Mast. While still in school, he often auditioned for commercials simply because he enjoyed being in front of the camera. It was during one such stint, a cola advertisement, that he caught the attention of RGV, who later cast him in Mast. Meanwhile, on the work front, Aftab Shivdasani has been a part of superhit films such as Kasoor, Awara Paagal Deewana, Hungama, Footpath, 1920: The Evil Returns, Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, and several others. Next, he has an array of films in the pipeline. He is a part of Welcome To The Jungle in Akshay Kumar's multi-starrer, Masti 4 with Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi and Kasoor 2 with Urvashi Rautela. Did you know that Aftab's aunt Sadhana and Babita, despite being sisters, did not have good terms and did not talk to each other? Media reports claim it is because of personal matters. Despite coming from a Kapoor background, Aftab had to struggle for years in the industry. He made his debut with the film Mast alongside Urmila Matondkar. Over the years, he featured in various films. However, his major recognition came when he worked in Kasoor in 2001. Did you know that before Aftab's adult debut, he worked as a child artist?
