Auburn is in a fierce fight with Ohio State for 5-star safety Bralan Womack

One of the nation's top safeties will announce his commitment this month, and Auburn is considered to be a heavy contender alongside a Big Ten power. In a recent episode of the Simmons Scoop podcast from Rivals, Rivals' Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons says that Auburn is "toe-to-toe" with Ohio State in the race for five-star safety Bralan Womack ahead of Aug. 21's scheduled commitment date, and feels that Hugh Freeze and the Tigers may have a slight lead for the talented defensive back from Mississippi. Simmons says that several other SEC schools are working to sway Womack's decision, but Auburn and Ohio State are the two programs to watch ahead of this month's commitment date. 'Ohio State came out of the spring as the favorite, went into the OVs as the team to beat. Auburn's closed that gap, Florida's trying to push hard. (Texas) A&M is the fourth school on the list, they've faded this summer. Right now, I lean slightly towards Auburn, with Ohio State right there in a tough battle that I think will go down to just hours until he makes that announcement.' Womack visited Auburn in June, scheduling his visit quickly after revealing his top four choices. Following his visit, Womack told Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that he feels "comfortable" at Auburn and says that he knows Auburn's football facility and the city of Auburn like the back of his hand. Auburn hopes that Womack's comfort level will play a factor in his decision to commit to the Tigers later this month. Womack, the No. 1 safety of the 2026 class, will announce his commitment on Aug. 21 during a live-streamed event on CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel. Louisiana's best safety is committed to Ohio State. Can LSU football pull off the flip?

One of LSU football's top 2026 targets was listed as a player with flip potential by Rivals' Chad Simmons on Wednesday. Safety Blaine Bradford committed to Ohio State in March, and despite his pledge seeming firm until this point, LSU isn't out of the race for the elite defensive back. It was a hit when Bradford committed to Ohio State earlier this year, but LSU can never be counted out with Louisiana prospects. Until Bradford puts pen to paper with the Buckeyes, he can still be swayed. A native of Baton Rouge, Bradford plays high school football at Catholic. Rivals' Industry Rankings are the highest on Bradford, slotting him at No. 2 out of Louisiana, No. 5 among safeties, and No. 47 overall. Earlier in July, LSU hired Ohio State recruiting staffer Sam Petitto to a similar role. Petitto has deep ties to Louisiana and was instrumental in the Buckeyes' gaining Bradford's commitment. With Pettito now at LSU, there's growing optimism that LSU can make Bradford's recruitment interesting. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Bradford turn up at LSU for a visit this fall. Several members of LSU's 2026 recruiting class are making their best pitch to the talented defensive back.

Longhorns predicted to land cornerback Samari Matthews

Over the last few weeks, Longhorns football has been on a roll in adding to their 2026 class. That includes the additions of a five-star defensive end and two four-star defensive linemen. However, they are not done yet. On3's Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong have both logged expert predictions that Texas will land four-star cornerback Samari Matthews. The North Carolina native is ranked as the No. 9 cornerback in the 2026 class and the No. 69 overall player by On3. They also rank him as the sixth-best player out of North Carolina. While the expert prediction is a welcoming sign, Texas is not the only program with its eyes on Matthews. Advertisement During the offseason, the talented cornerback has been busy touring the country. Matthews has visited Florida State, Texas, and South Carolina this month. That came after a trip to Miami in May. With most of his visits in the books, the anticipation is building over his final decision. Currently, the Longhorns 2026 class includes one cornerback, three-star Hayward Howard Jr. While he is a talented prospect, adding more depth at the position is key for a recruiting class trending up. Following the Longhorns' recent additions, their 2026 class has climbed to No. 10 in the country and No. 4 in the SEC per on3. A commitment from Matthews could make that ranking go even higher. Luckily for the Longhorns, they won't have to wait long to find out Matthews's decision. He has set his commitment date for July 11. Texas hopes that on that date, they will be able to add Matthews name to the list of potential Longhorns stars. LSU football projected to miss on top tight end recruiting target, losing to SEC power

LSU football is projected to miss on a top tight end recruiting target, according to Rivals' Chad Simmons. In a prediction dropped earlier this week, Simmins has four-star tight end Brayden Fogle committing to Georgia over LSU and Penn State. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Fogle is the No. 10-ranked tight end in the 2026 recruiting class. 247Sports is the highest on Fogle, slotting the Ohio prospect as the No. 132-ranked recruit in the country. Fogle is one of the top tight ends left on the board, and if Georgia continues to trend as the favorite, it leaves LSU with recruiting questions at the tight end position. LSU only signed one player at the position last year and would likely need to turn its attention towards flip candidates. Fogle is slated to announce his commitment on July 4. Ahead of Fogle's announcement, LSU's 2026 class ranks No. 5 nationally, per Rivals. Even if LSU misses on Fogle, the Tigers are sitting pretty in the pass-catching department. LSU's 2026 wide receiver crop is the best in the country, headlined by five-star wide receiver Tristen Keys.
