MI vs PBKS Qualifier 2 injury update: Will Yuzvendra Chahal and Deepak Chahar play today?

Mumbai Indians are all set to face off against the Punjab Kings at the Qualifier 2 match of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad. The Hardik Pandya led franchise had got to this spot after winning the Eliminator clash against the Gujarat Titans while PBKS will have another shot at reaching the IPL Final after facing a drubbing at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last clash. However, both the teams have been marred by injuries with PBKS losing Yuzvendra Chahal in the last few matches due to a wrist injury while MI not having the services of pacer Deepak Chahar due to a leg injury. The good news for Punjab Kings fans is that Chahal, who has been out of action since 18 May, is likely to have regained full fitness. According to ESPNCricinfo, he was seen wearing wrist protection during a training session on the eve of the crucial match. Chahal reportedly played football, took some catches and threw a few balls, as well as bowling a couple of overs into an empty net. As for Chahar, the report states that the pacer had padding under and above his left knee. He was seen warming up and jogging in Ahmedabad, and the report notes that Chahar's comeback will depend on how he feels when he wakes up on Sunday. Meanwhile, Reece Topley was the only other player to make it to the stadium on Saturday, suggesting that Richard Gleeson — who made his debut in Chahar's place during the IPL Eliminator match — is unlikely to play in Qualifier 2. With 36 runs needed off the last two overs against Gujarat Titans, Gleeson did a very good job of restricting the GT batters with three consecutive dot balls before walking off the field due to injury.

"Simply No Excuse...": Sunil Gavaskar Blasts Mumbai Indians Star For Huge Blunder vs Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans pulled off a thrilling victory over Mumbai Indians in their rain-hit IPL 2025 match on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium. Batting first, Mumbai Indians were restricted to a below-par 155/8, despite a quick 53-run knock from Will Jacks. Later during GT's chase, the match was halted several due to rain. Finally, the visitors were asked to score 15 runs in the 19th over, in order to win the match. MI skipper Hardik Pandya handed over the ball to pacer Deepak Chahar but he also could not stop GT from going across the line. Bowling the final over, Chahar was up against Gerald Coetzee and Rahul Tewatia. The pacer was hit for a boundary on the very first ball by Tewatia, followed by a single. After coming on strike, Coetzee sent the ball straight into the stands for a huge six. However, Chahar ended up leaking a no-ball and a single on the next delivery, giving a free-hit to GT. On the free-hit, Tewatia took a single and made the scores level but Chahar dismissed Coetzee on the next ball. However, the wicket also could not help MI as Arshad Khan came on strike and finished the game with a single. Talking about the last over, former India batter and commentator Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at Chahar for giving out a no-ball. "No excuse for a no ball. For a professional cricketer, simply no excuse. Whether you are bowling in the death or anywhere else," Gavaskar said on Star Sports. With this win, GT climbed to the top of the points table with a total of 8 wins after 11 matches. "There was a little bit of chaos when we came into bat after the rain but always good to have a W (win) on your side. The game plans were different in the powerplay, it was raining and the atmosphere was such that it felt like a Test match. We wanted to take the game on after the powerplay but the rain kept coming," said GT skipper Shubman Gill after the match. "The wicket was a little bit slow, with the rain coming in, the shots were not easy to hit so we thought, when it's in our zone, we would go for it. It was frustrating, we were ahead at one stage but we lost 4/20. But, the universe gave us a chance before two minutes and we took it," he added. Listen to the latest songs, only on

IPL 2025: Hardik could've gone for three sixes too: Jayawardene defends giving 19th over to Chahar in loss to GT

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene defended the team's decision to give the final over to Deepak Chahar, insisting the three-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium past midnight on Tuesday came down to execution, not strategy. In a rain-hit, high-pressure clash on Tuesday, Gujarat Titans pulled off a stunning last-ball win against Mumbai Indians, chasing 15 runs in the final over of a DLS-revised 19-over innings. While many questioned why captain Hardik Pandya didn't bowl the decisive last over, Jayawardene backed the pre-planned call to go with Chahar. 'Deepak did that job for us when Booms [Jasprit Bumrah] was not there [early in the season],' Jayawardene said after MI's six-match winning streak was snapped. 'He was good, our main bowler. It's easier to ask now why Hardik didn't bowl. But had Hardik gone for three sixes, the same question would've been asked about Deepak. I don't like to go there.' The Titans took 11 off the first three balls, including a no-ball and a six. With that, the match swung Gujarat's way, and with Chahar getting Gerald Coetzee out taking the game down to the wire before missing a runout chase as Arshad Khan scampered for a single, Mumbai had let the match slip after being in control for most of the second innings. Jayawardene stressed that the decision wasn't the problem, 'it was the execution.' He pointed out how the match turned despite MI's bowlers setting things up perfectly. Jasprit Bumrah, in particular, was exceptional, delivering a 15th over that cost just six runs and picked up a wicket, followed by a 17th that gave away just seven and accounted for Shahrukh Khan. The strategy saw both Bumrah and Trent Boult finish their spells early in the hunt for wickets, leaving Chahar and Hardik with the task of closing out. Spinners Will Jacks and Karn Sharma, who together bowled just three overs, were not considered for the final over, likely due to the conditions and match-up risks. Meanwhile, young Ashwani stepped in admirably as a concussion substitute for Corbin Bosch, picking up two wickets and applying brakes during Gujarat's middle-order charge. His performance was one of the few positives on a night that otherwise ended in disappointment for MI. 'This game was in our control,' Jayawardene admitted. 'We made some good calls with the ball, but under pressure, a couple of poor executions cost us. It wasn't about who bowled. We just didn't finish the job.'

Gujarat end Mumbai Indians' win run in rain-marred thriller

In a match in which fortunes swung like a pendulum in between two rain breaks, Mumbai Indians fought back brilliantly to take the upper hand but Gujarat Titans hammered 15 runs in a one over to chase the re-adjusted target of 147 in 19 overs to win the match by three wickets via DLS method at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. With the match ending past midnight, the players returned to the middle after 12:25 AM following the second rain break for one over, with the target for Gujarat Titans set at 147. With Titans needing 15 runs off six balls to win, Rahul Tewatia struck Deepak Chahar for four, and Gerald Coetzee hammered a six. Chahar bowled a no-ball off which they picked up a double, and Tewatia scored a single off the fourth ball. To add another twist to the tale, with scores levelled, Chahar had Coetzee out and with one needed, he failed to run out at the non-striker's end. Gujarat Titans won the match and surged to the top of the points table and ending Mumbai Indians' run of six wins in a row. Former champions Gujarat Titans capped off a superb bowling effort with a clinical batting performance midway through the match and looked on course for victory. But in a dramatic turn of events, Jasprit Bumrah hauled Mumbai Indians back into the game with a brilliant hostile spell, claiming the crucial wickets of Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan. Trent Bout and Ashwani Kumar also struck vital blows, and Mumbai Indians were cruising and bruising. Despite striking a couple of early blows after opting to bowl first, the Gujarat Titans allowed the Mumbai Indians to race to 56/2 in the mandatory power-play with Will Jacks (53 - 35b, 4x5, 6x3) and Suryakumar Yadav (35 - 24b, 4x5) adding 71 runs for the third wicket. With spinners Sai Kishore (2-34) and Rashid Khan (1-21) leading the way by bowling in the right areas with superb lengths and varying pace, the Gujarat Titans came roaring back and grabbed five wickets in the space of 26 runs to eventually restrict the Mumbai Indians to 155/8 in 20 overs. GT managed to restrict Mumbai Indians to a small total despite dropping three catches in the first six overs. Chasing the small target of 156, the GT struggled initially and reached 29/1 at the end of the power-play after losing opener Sai Sudharsan for 5. Trent Boult made the breakthrough for the Mumbai Indians, getting Sudharsan to edge behind to Ryan Rickelton. But with skipper Gill dropping anchor and Jos Buttler (30) playing cautiously, GT were under pressure with a slight drizzle keeping the groundmen on their toes. But Ashwani Kumar's entry into the match as a concussion substitute for Corbin Bosch, helped Mumbai Indians break the 77-run partnership the young pacers got him to edge behind. Things turned in Gujarat Titans' way in two crucial overs -- the one bowled by Hardik Pandya in which he bowled two no-balls and three wides, and then the other bowled by Will Jacks (15th of the innings) in which Sherfane Rutherford hammered 15 runs thanks to two fours after three dot balls. That turned the tide in favour of the Gujarat Titans, as a 15-minute short break due to rain halted the Mumbai Indians' progress. GT was ahead on DLS at this juncture, thanks to Rutherford's lusty blows. But Bumrah brought Mumbai back into the game as the pace spearhead breached Gill's defence with a brilliant back-of-the-length delivery that nipped back in sharply and clipped the top of the front pad and crashed into the off-stump. Gill, who was dropped by Tilak Varma off Ashwani Kumar, scored a cautious 43 off 46 balls, hitting three fours and one six, to leave Gujarat 113/3 in the 15th over. With 43 needed off 30 balls, Boult struck another blow for MI, sending back Rutherford in the next over, trapping him lbw with a back-of-the-length delivery slanting into the middle-stump. The batsman reviewed, but UltraEdge showed no bat was involved, and Ball Tracking shows three reds. With 38 required off 24 balls, Shahrukh Khan struck Bumrah for four and survived a LBW shout and a run out attempt on the next delivery. But there was no respite for Shahrukh as Bumrah knocked the stumps down with another brilliant delivery that deflected off the back leg. Gujarat Titans fell to 123/5 in the 17th over. With 31 needed in 18 balls, Ashwani Kumar got into the act and trapped Rashid Khan lbw with a brilliant seaming yorker, which was too good for the batter. The umpire did not budge, and MI opted for the DRS and got the decision. GT down to 126/6. Gujarat needed 24 off 12 deliveries when rain intervened once again, forcing the players off the field. With Gujarat Titans at 132/6. At this juncture, things were in favour of the Mumbai Indians as the DLS par score for the Gujarat Titans was 137, and they were four runs behind. But in one final twist in the tale, GT won it on the final delivery. Agencies Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 155/8 in 20 overs (Will Jacks 53, Suryakumar Yadav 35; Corbin Bosch 27; Sai Kishore 2-34, Rashid Khan 1-21) lost to Gujarat Titans 147/7 in 19 overs (Shubman Gill 43, Jos Buttler 30, Jasprit Bumrah 2-19, Trent Boult 2-22, Ashwani Kumar 2-28) by three wickets via DLS method.
