Star Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from ODIs to shift his focus to T20Is, with the World Cup scheduled to be held in 2026. Maxwell last played in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where Australia got knocked out in the retired with 149 appearances in the 50-over format, where he scored 3990 runs at an average of 33.81 with four hundreds and 23 fifties to his name. Opening up on his decision, Maxwell said the physical toll of ODI cricket, along with a potentially career-ending leg injury, was beginning to affect his fielding ability, which he sensed at the Champion's Trophy. He revealed that he had a chat with Cricket Australia Chairman of Selectors George Bailey and told him that he isn't going to make it to the 2027 ODI World Cup and the board must start looking ahead.'I felt like I was letting the team down a little bit with how body was reacting to the conditions. I had a good chat with (Chair of Selectors) George Bailey and I asked him what his thoughts were going forward. We talked about the 2027 World Cup and I said to him 'I don't think I am going to make that, it's time to start planning for people in my position to have a crack at it and make the position their own',' Maxwell told the Final Word he also mentioned that he didn't want to play a couple of more series for selfish reasons to provide enough time for the team management to look for his replacements for the next ODI World Cup.'Hopefully they get enough of a lead-in to hang onto that role. I always said I wasn't going to hand my position over if I felt like I was still good enough to play. I didn't want to just hold on for a couple of series and almost play for selfish reasons. They are moving in such a clear direction so this gives them the best look at what the line-up is leading into that next World Cup. I know how important that planning is,' he was a part of Australia's 2015 and 2023 World Cup-winning campaigns, having played a pivotal role with his all-round skills in both triumphs. He will be forever remembered for his mind-boggling double century against Afghanistan during the ODI World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in scored an unbeaten 201* off just 128 balls, smashing 21 fours and ten sixes as he became the first batter to score a double hundred batting second in ODIs. Courtesy of his heroic innings, he helped Australia recover from a precarious position of 91/7 and took them over the line in 292-run chase with little support from Pat Cummins from the other also holds the record for the fastest hundred in World Cup history as he reached the landmark in just 40 balls against the Netherlands during the 2023 edition in Delhi. Ayaz, Shamyl, Mohsin shine in President's Trophy

Ayaz Tasawar of Wapda, Shamyl Husain of PTV, and Muhammad Mohsin Khan of HEC are the three top-scorers in the recently-concluded President's Trophy season 2024/25. Taswar (867 from 15 innings), Shamyl (663 from 12 innings) and Mohsin (653 from 16 innings) dominate the runs table. On the Strike Rate table, of the three, Shamyl stands as number one with 72.94, way ahead of Taswar 58.46 and Mohsin 68.95. Significantly, Ayaz's heroics couldn't bring Wapda up in the final rankings nor could Mohsin save HEC from being demoted to grade II on account being at the bottom of the rankings. Shamyl's double hundred (229 on 274 balls, 29x4s, 4x6s, the fastest of the tournament's total four) against Ghani Glass and his audacious 137-ball 143 not out (14x4s, 4x6s) against Eshaal Asst got PTV two crucial victories to make it to the number one slot, jumping over heavy hitters like SNGPL, Ghani Glass, OGDCL. PTV had no media hyped names and except for one match where Imam ul Haq made appearance with a significant hundred, all of their known stars like Fakhar Zaman, Fahim Ashraf were away for the Champion's Trophy leaving it to the young shoulders to carry the burden. PTVs Muhammad Taha (5th in the national ranking for the tournament) Muhammad Shahzad (8th on the table), and Waqar Hussain (9th in the list) all played remarkable cricket to keep their team ahead of the rest. Shamyl, the youngest of the lot, topscored for the team in 4 out of the 7 matches he featured. Shamyl's 86 fours and 10 sixes put him way ahead of the senior players in terms of stroke-play capabilities. PTV's Muhammad Shahzad lead the table of maximums (16) and along with his mates (Taimur, Taha and Shamyl) share the honour of hitting the largest number of boundaries (4x6) in the tournament. The final of this prestigious tournament is set for the next week in Rawalpindi between table topper PTV and its next rival, SBP. It is likely to be a four-night, pink ball game.
