Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Rain The Won't Stop Anytime Soon Episode 7 of Forget You Not starts with us cutting forward to Kuang-chi's funeral. It's a somber affair but also one that sees numerous people talking about the good he did while he was alive. Interestingly one comment about there being less 'in the audience' for funerals does a good job of contrasting the audience VIP seats at Le-le's comedy club. Whether intentional or not, it's a nice way of contrasting the two areas. Chang Kai is also here too and introduces himself as a close friend of Kuang-chi's. He points out that the guy had a zest for life and he classed him as a friend more than a father-in-law. He also goes on to mention how they both love Le-le more than anybody else. Before Le-le gets a chance to say a few words, we cut back in time to our titular character at the hospital. She prays for her father to get better, and he does actually regain consciousness. Yep, it turns out the funeral that's here (as we cut back to this earlier scene) is all for show and a big prank from Kuang-chi. When Le-le wheels him out, half the crowd are shocked and the other half are too stunned to say anything. Kuang-chi says a few words, convinced that he's a good man based on what everybody has said about him, but also not disillusioned enough to shy away from the many mistakes he's made in his life too. The 'funeral' does work well to reframe all of Le-le and Kuang-chi's time together, which becomes a lot more warm and emotional compared to previous episodes. Kuang-chi is determined to keep up his exercise regime around the apartment, focusing on walking, and this time Le-le even takes proper photos of her dad and joins his laughs too. Unfortunately, Kuang-chi's condition continues to deteriorate, as he winds up wetting himself in his room. He's ashamed and tries to hide it from Le-le, throwing his wet trousers in the bin. Le-le is none the wiser though and struggles to juggle responsibilities, leaving her father to head out and do her comedy set. Shockingly, Le-le brings her phone with her and as it goes off mid-set, it causes chaos. She hurriedly leaves mid-set, messes up her opportunity and Mark is not happy with her. Le-le leaves the club and tries desperately to find her father, who's off wandering around aimlessly outside. When Le-le finally catches up to Kuang-chi and brings him home, she opens up about her struggles. She's sick of working double-shifts, she's frustrated about him taking a loan out on the house, and Le-le is just generally struggling to keep everything together. To make matters worse, they've passed the period of critical treatment and the only thing they need to do is look at Kuang-chi's caregiving. This falls on Le-le to handle as primary caregiver but she needs to seriously consider putting him in a home too. Through all of this, Le-le and Kai make their divorce official and part ways, at least on pleasant terms. Le-le jokingly calls him a bachelor as they say goodbye, but it's clear that she's using humour as a crux, given her regrets over what's happened. Things aren't made any easier as Kuang-chi's condition continues to worsen back home. He's bound to his wheelchair for much of the day, and no longer able to look in the mirror and see the man he once was. Le-le eventually brings in a carer to look after him but Kuang-chi is starting to slip. He's not focusing at all and even slips in and out of consciousness. Even worse, he locks the carer out the house and Le-le has to scramble to get home quicker. Unfortunately, this ordeal causes the carer to think twice about coming back, while Le-le finds herself caught in a difficult position about how to handle this going forward. Naturally, Le-le dedicates more of her time to look after her dad and but it's the rain that causes him to jog his memories of the past. Kuang-chi wheels himself out to the rain and looks up, smiling. It reminds him of the past and the pair have big smiles and laughter as they enjoy their time together in the rain. The Episode Review The end scenes with Le-le and her father are beautifully constructed and really show exactly what Chia-yun said earlier in the season about looking after children and the elderly are one and the same. Here, we see their time together given completely different context And the pair share a really beautiful moment just for them in the midst of all this pain and misery. Seeing Kuang-chi smile is such a touching moment and it ultimately leads into this finale which promises to be quite the heart-wrenching ordeal. As the longest episode of the season, this chapter really dives into how difficult it is to care give for someone with dementia, along with the difficulties in juggling that with your own career and aspirations. It's a beautifully bittersweet way to close out the series and the finale looks set to be just as emotionally charged. Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 3 Recap & Review

When Did We Fall Out Of Love? Episode 3 of Forget You Not starts with Le-le up on stage discussing relationships. She brings up how there are double-standards when you're falling in or falling out of love, while Le-le's own tumultuous ride with Chang-Kai comes crashing down around her. But how did this happen? Well, we cut back in time and see the full context of their messy relationship in this episode. Kai continues to head out and view all of Le-le's sets, he visits her at the Mart and the pair continue to flirt and hang out too. While they're in their honeymoon period, Kai receives a message come through about finally being made partner of the law-firm. Not long after, he proposes to her over dinner and the pair get engaged. The earlier scenes soon change though from their initial fun and laughter to more comfortable tranquillity together. We can already start to see the cracks in their relationship here, as the pair forget the reason why they fell in love in the first place. Most notably though it comes from Kai no longer showing up at her sets. While this is going on, Kuang-chi continues to ride his bike and cause drama back home. They have a bit of a plumbing mishap and it causes Le-le to completely forget about an important dinner with Kai's colleagues. He's a man in high demand and the lawyers want him to spread his wings and head abroad. Kai though is going to think about it but he's not happy about his wife's absence. When Le-le realizes she's late, she rushes out to try and make it to the dinner. She does eventually show up but she's a complete mess and embarrasses Kai in the process. In fact, Kai lies to his colleagues about what Le-le does as a job, clearly embarrassed by her stand-up comedy. Kai continues on how alike she is to her father, given she too misses big meetings like him, and he even scathingly retorts that he meets Kuang-chi more than she does. Kai wants to spend more time with his wife and despite what made him fall in love with her in the first place, he wants her to change. Kai brings up their finances and how he has enough to support them both, gently encouraging her to be a stay-at-home mum. Le-le is not that sort of person though and she's uncomfortable bending to his whims, let alone fitting into a social circle she's alien to. The crux of the issue here is that Kai clearly doesn't think she's good enough and Le-le is not particularly happy that her husband has been born into wealth and never suffered from real hardship. The biggest problem Kai faced was not making partner, which is how they both bonded in the first place, at their lowest points. Kai is a very different person and doesn't understand why Le-le does her stand-up comedy. In the end, he admits he wants her to quit the gigs altogether, which is not something she's willing to do. When Le-le leaves the house, she winds up with Kuang-chi and the pair dance in the rain, just like old times. This helps, along with a couple of weeks off, for Le-le to collect her thoughts and get back on stage to vent. While she delivers her scathing set, she's unaware that Kai and his friends from work have shown up to support her. Up on stage, she rips into all the guys until she realizes that her husband is in the crowd and she slips back and tries to save the routine. It doesn't work, as Kai leaves the venue and decides to move to Singapore, managing the firm over there. Whatever they had is gone, and Kai is not willing to try and work harder to make things better, ending their whirlwind romance. As Le-le moves into a new studio for a fresh start, her father heads over and unfortunately he immediately questions her choices and offers for her to move back home, rather than supporting her choice. Kai doesn't go about any of this in a particularly tactile way and attempts to give her advice on marriage and divorce too. Back at Kuang-chi's place, Le-le winds up seeing a hospital bill for gastroenterology, which may or may not be linked to a bigger heath concern. The Episode Review This is a really great episode, encapsulating the highs and lows of relationships and how easy it can be to fall in love – and how the small erosion of falling out of love can eventually lead to a huge gap in your relationship. Forget You Not understands this perfectly and those scenes of Kai showing up at the comedy club and then deciding to wait outside is indicative of their love fading. You can already see it happening with his comments about her watermelon breath and strained smiles, but similarly the show doesn't go out of its way to see Le-le as completely blameless either. Le-le is also forgetful and doesn't really support Kai during his big dinner. It's still no excuse for him to lie about her career, and he gets a massive wake-up call when he shows up at the club and finds Le-le ripping into them all. It's a pretty uncomfortable scene but it also works well to show the different worlds these two have been born into. Sometimes opposites don't attract! As we approach the midway point of this one, the show is just starting to get interesting. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Forget You Not – Season 1 Episode 2 Recap & Review

The Most Difficult Person, Me Episode 2 of Forget You Not begins with Le-le reflecting on her past relationship with her dad. Unlike the other kids at school, she never saw Kuang-chi as a superhero, and flashbacks to her childhood seem to show that he's absent a lot of the time, arriving late to pick her up from school. We then cut to five years ago from our present timeline. Le-le works as a tour guide for seniors but she hates her job. She's also not married to Chang Kai just yet either, which helps to place this in the timeline. Her father tries to contact her but Le-le is flustered and bombarded with questions from the tourists so she ignores his texts. An altercation at the hotel the guests are due to stay a causes drama when Le-le hits out at a customer. The whole ordeal is blown completely out of proportion but it also causes her to be fired. On the way home, Le-le stumbles upon an open-mic night at a bar and winds up on stage talking about her firing and job experience. Funnily enough, this is also where she meets Chang Kai, a prospective businessman who's disappointed when he fails to make partner at his firm. He enjoys her set, which is surprisingly good for someone with no material. For a while anyway as Le-le soon gets emotional and winds up trauma-dumping, which sees Chang Kai take a shining to her. The club's producer, Mark, wants to bring her onboard and he believes she's got potential. This is also where she meets Chang-kai too and the pair get along well. Through all of this, her dad is at home worried sick as he hasn't heard from her all day. When Le-le heads home, she barely says two words to hr dad, much to his dismay. He makes up an excuse that he was watching TV and even attempts to make her a glass of milk but Le-le gives him the cold shoulder the whole time. Le-le is still friends with Su-fei and Chai-yun here and in fact, the latter is pregnant! Her concerns have changed slightly as she's worried that their 'Period Club' needs to be moved to a different venue. As time passes and Le-le winds up working at the FamilyMart to help pay the bills, Chai-yun goes into labour and both Su-fei and Le-le rush to help their friend. Now, Su-fei and Le-le haven't been speaking for a while given the incident at the hotel where Su-fei failed to stand up for her friend. As they race to be there for Chai-yun, both of them manage to patch up their differences. However, Le-le forgets her dad's birthday and rings him to wish the guy a belated happy birthday. They barely talk though and she's quite blunt on the phone, deciding they'll do something together soon. At the end of the episode, we cut back in time and see Le-le and Chang-kai meeting at the Mart again, giving us an indication of where episode 3 will go next. The Episode Review This episode works well to show more of the past and how Kuang-chi has been desperately trying to repair his relationship with Le-le, who has never seen her father as a superhero in her life. It's quite sad to see how their ties have been broken and the pair aren't on the same wavelength at all. It'sa contrast to Su-fei and Le-le though, who do finally manage to patch up their differences. Seeing the start of Chang-kai and Le-le's relationship is a nice touch though and I'm sure we'll see more of that across the rest of the season. For now though, understanding more of the past is helping to flesh out more of this relationship between Le-le and her dad. The overall theme about growing up and seeing your parents age is particularly resonant here too. Hopefully the episodes ahead will show more of this relationship.
