Penn Hills man charged in connection with deadly Monroeville crash
Police have charged a Penn Hils man in connection with a crash in Monroeville that killed a woman and hurt three more in 2024. Allegheny County police say Marcus Alston Sr., 49, was the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder that crashed into the rear of a Toyota Rav 4 around midnight on Nov. 3 on Route 22, William Penn Highway. According to detectives, Alston's vehicle was traveling at more than 90 miles per hour when the crash occurred. The posted speed limit there is 35 miles per hour. Police say all four were taken to area hospitals in stable condition. Shiya Young, the passenger in Alston's vehicle, was pronounced dead. Detectives say Alston's blood alcohol content was .233 percent, and he was found to have a suspended driver's license. Alston is now facing multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering another person. Man found shot multiple times in McKeesport
A man was found shot in McKeesport Monday morning. Allegheny County Police were notified of a shooting at Coursin Street and Fifth Avenue, where they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Police said preliminary information shows the shooting may have happened somewhere else. Sunny, much warmer Monday with highs in the 70s
Sunny and much warmer this afternoon. Highs are expected to be closer to normal in the low to mid-70s. Canadian wildfire smoke will increase in our sky again this afternoon and will keep the sky looking hazy. No impacts are expected here at this time from the smoke, but that may change on Tuesday, as smoke may mix down to the surface more. Make sure to check back for the latest on the smoke and air quality forecast. The dry stretch continues Tuesday with hazy sunshine; highs will rise to the upper 70s near 80 degrees. The warmer temperatures and hazy sky will continue on Wednesday. Highs will be in the 80s along with noticeably more humid air. Temperatures drop overnight, smoke from Canadian wildfires creates hazy sky in our area
It will be pleasant but cool this evening as temperatures fall from the 60s into the 50s. Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is high in the atmosphere and keeping our sky looking hazy. No impacts are expected here at this time from the smoke, but that may change in the coming days. Smoke may increase in the area again on Monday evening and through the day on Tuesday. A Frost Advisory is in effect for Forest, Clarion and eastern Tucker counties from 1 a.m. through 8 a.m. Monday. Frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor plants/vegetation, so make sure to cover them or bring them indoors before bed tonight. Monday will start chilly, but it will be sunny and much warmer by the afternoon. Highs are expected to be back closer to normal in the low to mid 70s. The sunny stretch continues Tuesday, but with much warmer marks, highs will jump into the 80s. The heat will continue through Thursday with highs in the 80s along with noticeably more humid air. Large firefighter presence responds to house fire in Turtle Creek
Crews responded to a house fire in Turtle Creek. Allegheny County dispatchers say the fire started in the 300 block of Stewart Street at 9:55 p.m. on Saturday. Firefighters called for more units just six minutes later with a second alarm. No injuries have been reported at this time. This is a developing story.
