Samantha Armytage's estranged husband Richard Lavender reportedly offered spot on revamped Farmer Wants a Wife
Samantha Armytage's ex-employer Channel 7 is reportedly 'determined' to lock in her estranged husband Richard Lavender for a revamp of Farmer Wants a Wife. Armytage, 48, announced her separation from Lavender, 61, in December just weeks before their fourth wedding anniversary. The split came months after Armytage's equally shocking professional separation from Seven in favour of a plum new gig hosting The Golden Bachelor on rival Channel 9. The Golden Bachelor is a new twist on the popular Bachelor dating franchise and will see a group of older Australians competing for the hearts of Barry 'Bear' Myrden, a widower in his 50s from Manly in Sydney's Northern Beaches. Seven is reportedly planning to revamp the 2026 season of Farmer Wants a Wife Australia – which Armytage previously hosted – to feature older farmers and take on the Golden Bachelor head on. According to a Seven production source who spoke to New Idea magazine on Monday, Armytage's estranged husband is at the top of the casting list. 'Production doesn't want the format becoming stale, and they're desperate to give the show a fresh new look and format in a bid to rival its growing competitors,' the source said. 'Channel Seven is determined to convince former Farmer host Samantha Armytage's ex-husband Richard Lavender to front a Golden Farmer series.' The source claimed that Armytage would likely see the move as an insult, especially after Lavender shunned the spotlight throughout his marriage to the ex-Sunrise host. 'Sam wouldn't love the idea of Richard being involved in Farmer, in fact she would probably see it as a bit of an insult, but she is the one that had him pose for magazine covers and put his name in the spotlight, he's of interest because of his high profile marriage and separation to Sam,' the source said. The split shocked some industry insiders, especially after Armytage herself told Woman's Day that she quit her role hosting breakfast television show Sunrise to live at Lavender's 40-hectare estate in New South Wales' Southern Highlands. Following the break up, sources told Daily Mail Australia that a contributing factor to the split was allegedly tension between Lavender's adult children and Armytage. It is understood the TV star has left the countryside and decamped back to Sydney's eastern suburbs amid her divorce.

‘Enormous' scenes as Aussie sprint star breaks 10-second barrier
Sprint star Lachie Kennedy has made long-awaited history as just the second Australian to run under 10 seconds in a legal 100m race. Kennedy, Gout Gout, Rohan Browning and more spent the summer chasing the magic number, hoping to join Patrick Johnson some 22 years after he ran his famous 9.93, and it was Kennedy who officially got there first overnight. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: 'Enormous' scenes as Aussie sprint star breaks 10-second barrier. The 21-year-old ran 9.98 at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Kenya — into a slight 0.7m/s headwind and after a delay for a false start. Kennedy leapt to celebrate the time but just as impressive was nabbing the win over the likes of Paris Olympics 4x100m relay silver medallists Bayanda Walaza and Shaun Maswanganyi, and 2022 Commonwealth Games 100m gold medallist Ferdinand Omanyala. 'As soon as I saw the 9.98 I was thrilled, the feeling was so surreal. I couldn't believe it,' Kennedy said. 'I was there to win today and bring it home, and I am super stoked to get the win and the time. 'It's so good. I can finally say I run 9! I haven't wanted to rush it or put the pressure on myself, I take every race as it comes and I knew it would come eventually. 'I've got a good coach (Andrew Iselin), good training partners — shoutout to Calab Law — and a good S&C (strength and conditioning) and team around me. It's been about trusting the process.' Lachie Kennedy celebrates his famous new personal best. Credit: Getty Kennedy first shot to international prominence when he pocketed silver in the 60m at the World Indoors in China in March. The main target for him and his friendly rival and fellow Queenslander Gout this year is the world championships in Tokyo in September. But famous days along the way are cause for celebration. 'The crowd was nuts out there. I think there was early movement from someone in the first part of the race, but it actually did me good. It settled the nerves so I was pretty confident out there today,' Kennedy said. 'I didn't think a nine was realistic until a couple of years ago. When I was still playing rugby but starting to train and realising I had some speed, I made it the goal.' Kennedy was quickly toasted by Aussie teammates and former champions watching from around the world. Sunrise host Matt Shirvington, who chased the same feat during his career and watched Kennedy up close over the summer, wrote: 'Enormous.' Channel 7's Sally Pearson said: 'Yes yes yes.' John Steffensen said: 'The truth.' Kennedy had been threatening to break the 10-second barrier on home soil. He ran 10.00 and 10.01 on successive days in Perth in April after a previous best of 10.03 set in March. Gout ran two illegal 9.99 times in April, first with a 3.5m/s tailwind that eased to a 2.5m/s for the second run. Browning marked his comeback summer by winning his third national title, running 10.01 in the final to hold off Kennedy by just five one-thousandths of a second. Kennedy and Gout are both scheduled to race the 200m in the prestigious Ostrava Golden Spike Mett in the Czech Republic on June 24. 'I'm getting better with every race,' Kennedy said. 'It's an advantage to have a long season at home. 'I'm not getting tired, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can achieve later in the year as we get closer to the world championships.' - with AAP

‘Get emotional': Loved footy figure Abbey Holmes says classy goodbye
Abbey Holmes has made an emotional farewell from Channel 7 as she prepares for the birth of her first child. The much loved former AFLW player was given a classy send-off by colleagues, including Dale Thomas and Matthew Richardson, following Collingwood's big win over Hawthorn on Friday night at the MCG. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. Holmes has continued to fulfil her role with Seven this season despite appearing to be ready to pop for several weeks now. Holmes said last week she and husband Keegan Brooksby are due to celebrate the arrival of their first child, a boy, in June. The 34-year-old was clearly caught by surprise when Friday night's broadcast from the MCG ended with the Channel 7 commentary team gifting her an extravagant white and purple floral arrangement — and their full support as she tackles motherhood for the first time. You can watch the sweet farewell in the video player above. Collingwood great Thomas said Holmes will be 'an incredible mother'. 'Unfortunately for us, this is your last night Friday night footy and we have had to request an army to come in and take care of what you've done,' Thomas said from the desk inside the Collingwood dressing room. 'On behalf of the Friday night footy team, the entirety of Channel 7 and everybody around football, we wish you all the very best. 'You're going to make the most amazing mother and we can't wait to see your little baby for you and Keegs. 'It's incredible that you are still here considering.' He went on to cheekily say: 'We cannot wait to see you and your next journey through Keegan and little baby Daisy Richo'. Richmond legend Richardson delivered the flowers to Holmes with a friendly peck on the cheek. 'It's taking an army of people to replace you Abbey,' he said. 'You've done an incredible job.' Holmes admitted she will miss the Seven crew. 'Awww guys. Thanks guys. You're going to make me get emotional,' she said. 'Thank you both. I'll miss you.' When told by Richardson to do some relaxing, Holmes responded: 'I don't chill. I don't do chill. But we'll see what happens. 'I'm very, very excited and will be guided by this little guy.' She was given a standing ovation from the behind-the-scenes support staff.' Holmes shared an image of the special moment on her Instagram page on Saturday and the post was filled with comments of fans wishing her all the best. 'Love my @7afl family,' Holmes posted. 'Thank you so much for the beautiful send off. 'Going to be VERY weird watching from the couch (or a hospital bed) next week.' It is unclear when Holmes plans to return, but her comments in an interview with The Herald Sun earlier this month suggest she may be back before her maternity leave runs out. 'I genuinely love to work and it brings me so much joy and fulfilment,' she told VWeekend. 'I love to be busy and my mentality at the moment is I'll work as far up as I can.' She said she is hoping to be back on TV 'as quickly as I can'. Holmes is heading into motherhood with the support of the entire football world. Social media platforms X and Instagram have been filled her comments of followers all saying the same thing as Thomas. One person wrote on the official Channel 7 AFL account on X: 'I love Abbey. Such a fantastic person. All the best'. Another person posted: 'Feel like Holmes is universally respected as a host and personality, gonna be a great mum'. One follower wrote on Holmes' Instagram page: 'I'm so glad that you've shown women that we can achieve so much even when pregnant. 'Absolute inspiration Abbey. Good luck.' Holmes made the discovery she was pregnant after incredibly running the New York Marathon in November, with the news coming as a total surprise. 'Keegan and I have shared a very busy year, but 2025 is set to be our biggest and best yet. We could not be happier to welcome our first child into the world, later this year,' Holmes told The Herald Sun in January. 'We are so excited and grateful to be in this position, as we know how difficult it can be for so many people. We're on cloud nine and can't wait for this next chapter.' The couple have been together since 2017 after matching on a dating app. Brooksby popped the question in Uluru in 2020 before the pair tied the knot in 2023.
