Luxury liner 'boosts income and raises Jersey's reputation'
The arrival into Jersey of a luxury cruise ship will boost the island's tourism clout and the economy, Ports of Jersey has Vista, operated by cruise firm Oceania, anchored off St Helier on Wednesday morning, on its way to the UK via Portugal, Spain and of Jersey, which manages the island's transport hubs, said cruise ships brought income through transport, food, retail and tourism Porritt from Channel Island Port Services (CIPS) said: "This visit forms part of our ongoing efforts to raise Jersey's maritime profile and position the island as a trusted destination for boutique cruise and superyacht visits."
'Highest standards'
He added: "We are proud to be part of the maritime community and to offer a warm welcome as a gateway to Northern Europe, supported by a strong infrastructure, a strategic location and a connected ecosystem."Cruise ships would also boost investment in port facilities, Ports of Jersey added, to ensure they met the "highest standards".Captain Bill Sadler, harbour master, said the port was working to grow Jersey's "blue economy" - meaning sustainable maritime economic growth. "We look forward to welcoming the captain and crew of MS Vista to the island, and we are confident that their passengers will find their time here a memorable and rewarding experience," he added. The visit of MS Vista was coordinated by Ports of Jersey and Channel Island Port Services (CIPS), which has been part of joint efforts to enhance the island's maritime profile. With officials and stakeholders invited to attend, there was due to be a plaque exchange ceremony on board, the operator said.
