Loan Report: Crew and Gelhardt make second debuts
The EFL season is underway, with two Leeds United loanees coming off the bench over the weekend to make their second debuts for their respective clubs. Having rejoined Doncaster Rovers just days earlier, midfielder Charlie Crew made an appearance in their 2-1 win over Mansfield Town, playing the final half-hour on Saturday. The Welsh international, who featured 13 times for Rovers as they won promotion last season, was introduced with his side trailing 1-0 at the One Call Stadium, before Grant McCann's men staged a comeback with a brace from Owen Bailey. Speaking of his delight at re-signing Crew, McCann said: 'He is obviously a special talent, as we all know. Seeing him over the last couple of days in training reminds us how good he is, how much energy he has, and how well he can handle the ball. I'm really pleased to have him back, and I'm pleased that Leeds have trusted us again with his development.' Elsewhere, Joe Gelhardt's loan move to Hull City was announced on Saturday morning – just hours before the forward came on in the 80th minute of the Tigers' 0-0 draw with Coventry City at the CBS Arena. Reflecting on the move and the impact he hopes Gelhardt will make, Hull boss Sergej Jakirović said: 'He was my vision. I asked so many times about him because, in our situation with the embargo and everything else, he wanted to come to us. We need such a player, and there's no adaptation time. The group likes him, and he knows our environment as well, so this is a very, very good choice for us.' The EFL Cup awaits both Crew and Gelhardt on Tuesday night, with Doncaster making the short trip to Middlesbrough (7:30pm) whilst Hull City travel to Wrexham (7:45pm). Max Wöber, on loan at Werder Bremen, has a little longer to wait until his season gets underway – the German side's first competitive match kicking off at 7:45pm on Friday, a DFB-Pokal tie against Arminia Bielefeld. After completing his move to Mallorca over the weekend, Mateo Joseph could be in line to make his debut for Los Bermellones on Saturday (6:30pm), as they open their 2025/26 campaign against La Liga champions Barcelona.

Lack of Leeds signings 'wise' or 'a big risk'?
After the transfer window closed on Monday, we asked what you thought about Leeds United's Gelhardt and Charlie Crew went on loan until the end of the season, while Sonny Perkins made his move to Leyton Orient a permanent one, but the Whites did not bring in any players. Here are some of your responses:Wayne: Another striker would have been nice but only if they would have improved the team. There was no point bringing in someone for the sake of it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it as the saying goes. We have a squad that is strong enough to go up. Piroe gets his fair share of criticism but he is second top scorer in the league and the likes of James, Solomon, Ramazani and Aaronson are all chipping in. So long as that continues, we should be more than good enough to get Frustrated really, despite leading the Championship we have not strengthened when given a golden opportunity to do so, like our competitors. Only time will tell if this was a wise decision!Lee: We have a good enough squad. Don't need the team spirit disturbing. Any permanent signing would need to be Premier League ready. I'm Lack of investment in January cost us promotion last season, let's hope it's not a case of history repeating itself come In Farke we trust, and in this group of players who have been outstanding so far. We are right not to waste money on the wrong players who won't improve the squad. Clearly should we gain promotion then will need to It's a big risk. Two or three injuries and you're prone to drop points. Why on earth wasn't Iheanacho taken on loan for example? It feels like a missed I noticed there were a lot of "loan" signings and judging by the sheer volumes this transfer window looked like collective panic stations. Signing loan players on short-term contracts is never a good thing because they might be the wrong fit, their presence may cause unrest in the dressing room and it takes more than a few weeks to get loanees playing in coordination with the We've been here before - the 'we don't need to buy' or 'there wasn't a quality player available'. If there are no injuries, before the end of the season, then fine. If there are, then it's going to be 50-50 for promotion, and I don't think I can take another play-off As long as we stay clear of injuries and red cards we should be fine. This squad is better than last year. Glad we saved money for summer We have been needing a Prem quality striker since Bielsa was the manager. So, it would appear that we as a club can only afford to buy strikers with potential and then to develop them on, ready for re-sale to supposed bigger clubs? If not the case, why have we not bought at least one?Neil: Very happy. Completely supportive. Definitely a wise window. There's only 16 games left to manage. The squad is good enough. Top, clear, and 60 goals is proof of that. Injuries are possible but there's already plenty of scope for regular top-quality rotation. No need to be nervous. We have only one injured player right now and he's about to return.
