New Bern man pleads guilty to several drug charges
NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — A New Bern man pled guilty to several drug charges in the Craven County Superior Court Tuesday.
Charlie Swindell, 40 years old, was suspected of larceny and breaking and entering into a job site at the Gracie Farms Mobile Home Park. Swindell was on probation during that time. Officers arrived at Swindell's home to find him asleep in his car with a replica Glock 19 in the passenger seat. Swindell was detained and officers found multiple plastic bags with white powder inside on him. The bags contained heroin, oxycodone and methamphetamine separately.
Investigators with the Craven County Sheriff's Office heard about Swindell selling narcotics and later stopped him after seeing him commit several traffic violations. During the stop, Swindell shoved something into his mouth. He was told to remove it, but Swindell resisted and swallowed three plastic bags that he later admitted contained marijuana and methamphetamine. Officers also seized $224 and two cell phones.
Swindell was sentenced to 128-166 months in the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.
