Don't Let the Rust Fool You: 1967 Chevelle Wagon Is a 900-HP Nitrous-Powered Sleeper

⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious At first glance, it looks like a forgotten family hauler. But under the weathered wrap and roof-strapped luggage, this 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle wagon is anything but mild-mannered. Nicknamed 'Rusty,' the car is the latest build featured by YouTube channel AutotopiaLA in collaboration with Hood Muscle Cars, and it packs a surprise worthy of street legend status. What looks like a tired old cruiser is actually a nitrous-huffing beast capable of laying down up to 900 horsepower. The heart of the build is a small-block Chevy 396 stroker, beefed up with performance heads, a roller cam, and a 750 CFM Holley carburetor. Sammy, the engine builder, says the naturally aspirated output hovers around 600 horsepower—but when the nitrous kit is engaged, 'Rusty' turns into a monster. Backing up the powerplant is a fully built 4L60 automatic transmission with a 2,600-stall converter. The stock frame and suspension geometry have been retained, though upgraded QA1 coilovers help control the chaos. The result is a sleeper that looks like it belongs in a junkyard but drives like it escaped from a drag strip. Inside, the Chevelle remains largely untouched, maintaining a period-correct sleeper aesthetic. The rust? It's just a wrap—intentionally applied to fool unsuspecting onlookers. The AutotopiaLA host takes 'Rusty' for a spin, revealing just how aggressive this long-roof legend really is. It burns rubber with ease and keeps pulling like a freight train, all while looking like it should be parked behind a barn. Built by a team of enthusiasts, each with a hand in different aspects of the car, the Chevelle is a rolling tribute to hot rod ingenuity and deceptive appearances. When it comes to this wagon, looks can—and absolutely do—deceive.

Custom 2015 Camaro Transformed Into a 1969 Chevelle After 2,000 Hours of Work

⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious A stunning automotive transformation has turned a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro into a near-perfect replica of a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle after 2,000 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. This unique build, set to cross the auction block, seamlessly merges classic muscle car styling with modern performance. The project, showcased by Mecum Auctions, replaces the Camaro's factory body with custom fiberglass molds reinforced with carbon fiber, sculpted to replicate the timeless look of a '69 Chevelle. From the sculpted hood to the iconic Chevelle grille and centered emblem, the attention to detail makes this vehicle a convincing throwback to one of Chevrolet's most beloved muscle cars. Under the hood, the car retains its modern muscle roots with a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine, originally developed for the Corvette. While the exterior embraces 1960s nostalgia, the drivetrain ensures that performance remains firmly in the present, delivering impressive horsepower and reliability. Despite its exterior transformation, the car's interior remains largely stock to the original 2015 Camaro, aside from a set of redesigned headrests. While some purists may have preferred a full retro-inspired cabin makeover, the original modern amenities provide a functional and comfortable driving experience. The vehicle, which has already logged 40,000 miles, is scheduled for auction later this month, offering collectors and enthusiasts the chance to own a one-of-a-kind blend of past and present. In a world where classic restorations and modern restomods often require trade-offs, this Camaro-based Chevelle homage proves that bridging the gap between two automotive eras is possible—if you're willing to invest the time.

Retro-Styled 2015 Chevrolet 'Chevelle' Camaro Somehow Doesn't Make Me Want To Commit Arson To Save My Eyes

Unlike a lot of, shall we say, older automotive enthusiasts, I don't like restomods. Sure, they can look cool, but I've also never driven one that actually felt properly sorted or worth the money. Maybe they're out there, but I haven't driven them. Sadly, grafting a vintage body onto a modern chassis doesn't usually work much better since the resulting cars look more like something you'd get from only even more cursed. So imagine my surprise when I saw the Mecum auction listing for this Chevelle-bodied 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS and didn't immediately want to set it on fire. I'm not going to call this the most beautiful car I've ever seen, as that award obviously goes to the BMW XM, but with different wheels, it's also a car I wouldn't be completely embarrassed to be seen driving. Somehow, it actually mostly works. Sure, you can tell it isn't an actual Chevrolet Chevelle, but it actually mostly pulls off the whole charade. Even if you don't like the idea of it, you have to appreciate the fact that it doesn't sear your retinas and make you wish it would spontaneously combust. Aside from the part where burning people's property is a serious crime, you also don't know for a fact that you don't have pyrokinesis, and you need to be careful, just in case. Read more: SEMA Was Full Of Wild Concepts In 2002 As you can see here, you don't get a similarly retro custom interior as it's all just taken from the modern Camaro, and there's an automatic transmission between the 6.2-liter V8 and the rear wheels, neither of which is ideal, but redesigning a dash and center console gets pricey fast, so it's understandable that the builder chose not to open that particular can of worms. Especially since the listing claims getting the build to where it is today already took about 2,000 hours. That also may explain why other similar conversions end up stuck in the uncanny valley. You do get legit Chevelle headrests, though, so that's nice. It also doesn't hurt that the original car was a convertible, so you aren't stuck looking at an obviously modern roofline or the hatchet jobs that are most Dodge Challenger convertible conversions. And while the new headlights appear to be modern LEDs, they were either smart enough to skip daytime running lights altogether or photograph the car with them off. DRLs can look good on cars that were actually designed to have them, but muscle cars from the 60s and 70s weren't, and therefore every single retro conversion or restomod that adds them is a sin against God. You could say the same thing about the builder's decision to start with an automatic, but you and I both know whoever wins this auction probably admitted long ago that their days driving stick were behind them. Annoyingly for me personally, as well as probably many of you, our new CMS doesn't do galleries or images well, so you'll have to head over to the listing if you want to look at more photos. Still, from what you can see here, it still looks far better than the overwhelming majority of these retro conversions, even if it isn't perfect. And while it may have an automatic transmission, it's still a Camaro SS, which means it should drive far better than the overwhelming majority of restomods you could have bought instead. Heck, you may even like the wheels enough to keep them on until winter. You shouldn't, but if you win the auction, I'm certainly not going to stop you. Drive it. Enjoy it. And if you do have a wreck, as long as you're wearing your seatbelt, you should also survive it. And you definitely can't say that about a $250,000 restomod. H/T: CarScoops Want more like this? Jailba8: 1966 Chevy Chevelle with Over $350,000 in Upgrades Set to Auction in Glendale

Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A beautifully restored 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle, nicknamed "Jailba8," is scheduled to cross the auction block on March 22nd, 2025, at the Glendale auction, boasting an impressive array of customizations and performance enhancements. This classic vehicle, expertly reimagined by Goodfellows Classic Cars in Phoenix, Arizona, represents a pinnacle of automotive restoration and customization with an estimated $350,000 invested in its rebuild. The Chevelle, originally launched in the mid-1960s as a mid-sized car by Chevrolet, has been transformed into a high-performance powerhouse featuring a supercharged 6.2L LSA V-8 engine. This modern GM powertrain is rated at 725 horsepower, thanks to significant upgrades including L92-type aluminum heads and a Texas Speed LS-3B valvetrain. The car's formidable engine is complemented by a column-shifted 4L75E automatic transmission and a high-performance Strange 9-inch differential with limited-slip functionality. The vehicle rides on an Art Morrison GT Sport chassis that integrates an advanced four-bar rear suspension layout, providing a modern driving experience aligned with its classic aesthetic. The suspension system includes IFS control arms, rack-and-pinion steering, and heavy-duty springs, further enhanced by Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes for optimal stopping power. Externally, the Chevelle shines in a PPG Cortez Silver finish, achieved after meticulous paintwork by Goodfellows. The exterior retains the OEM chrome bumpers and grille but eschews additional trim for a sleeker look. A low-profile cowl hood from AMD adds to its streamlined appearance. Inside, the Chevelle features a custom black leather bench seat with blue stitching, crafted by Armando's Upholstery of San Jacinto, California. The cabin is equipped with modern amenities such as Vintage Air, Dakota Digital gauges, power windows, and custom door handles, making it as comfortable as it is stylish. This Chevelle has not only been a fixture on the Goodguys tour but also received recognition among the Builder's Choice Top 10. It stands as a testament to the detailed craftsmanship and passion for automotive excellence that Goodfellows Classic Cars is known for. As "Jailba8" prepares to find its new owner at the upcoming Glendale 2025 auction, it continues to embody the spirit of classic American muscle cars, blending traditional design with contemporary performance enhancements. 1967 Chevelle Wagon 'Rusty' Hides 900HP Nitrous Surprise

⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious At first glance, this 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle wagon appears to be nothing more than a weathered family hauler with oversized wheels and luggage strapped to the roof. But as the throttle opens, the car reveals its true identity—a 900-horsepower nitrous-fed sleeper built to dominate the streets. Nicknamed 'Rusty' by its builders at Hood Muscle Cars, the Chevelle's patina-like finish isn't the result of decades of wear—it's an intentionally applied wrap designed to mislead unsuspecting rivals. Beneath the faux-rusted exterior lies a heavily modified 396-cubic-inch small-block V8, upgraded with performance heads, a roller camshaft, and a 750 CFM Holley carburetor. Engine builder Sammy estimates the setup produces 600 horsepower naturally, but when nitrous kicks in, output soars to 900 horsepower. The power is sent through a built 4L60 automatic transmission, fortified with a 2,600-stall converter to handle the added grunt. Despite its performance upgrades, the Chevelle retains its stock frame and suspension geometry, with modern QA1 coilovers improving ride control. Inside, the wagon's sleeper persona continues with a completely stock interior. While it may look like an old grocery-getter, a quick hit of the nitrous button instantly changes the narrative. The car's brutal acceleration and tire-shredding ability are showcased in a recent video by AutotopiaLA, where the host takes a ride and experiences the raw force of this unassuming muscle wagon firsthand. With its deceptive looks and explosive performance, "Rusty" proves that sometimes, the most unassuming cars pack the biggest punch.
