Patrick Mahomes makes bold Travis Kelce claim following Super Bowl dud as retirement rumors swirl

Patrick Mahomes sees a very different Travis Kelce at Chiefs camp as retirement rumors continue to swirl around the star tight end. Mahomes was asked about Kelce at Chiefs' OTAs on Friday and the possibility of it being his final season. But the former MVP doesn't see someone who looks like he is on his way out of the NFL. Advertisement Instead, he sees a Kelce who is more engaged than ever after a poor season by his standards that ended with a loss in Super Bowl 2025 to the Eagles. 'The way he's talking about football, the way he's talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year, he doesn't seem like a guy like it's his last ride, like he's tired of the job.' Kelce, 35, is coming off a season in which he had 97 receptions for a career-low 823 yards and just three touchdowns – also the worst output of his career. Advertisement He wasn't much better in the playoffs, making just 13 catches for 175 yards, one touchdown and seven first downs, as the Chiefs failed to complete a historic three-peat. Kelce particularly struggled in Super Bowl 2025, with four catches for 39 yards. The underwhelming postseason raised questions about Kelce's future as he enters the final year of his two-year, $34 million contract. 'I think he feels better than last year before going into last season. I think he's motivated to go out there and have an even better year than he had this last.' Advertisement Kelce is coming off a relatively quiet offseason, after one filled with trips to girlfriend Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. The couple, which has engagement rumors swirling around them, stayed very much out of the public eye outside of a few date nights, including one recently in Florida. It will remain to be seen if Kelce's seeming heightened focus will lead to results on the field.

Will someone call the Dolphins after June 1 about a trade for Tyreek Hill?

When Dolphins G.M. Chris Grier was asked in April about a potential trade of receiver Tyreek Hill, Grier didn't shoot it down. 'If someone wants to come and give me two first round picks then we'd consider it,' Grier said. 'But, as of right now, it's not something we're considering.' That could change in a couple of days. Given the realities of Hill's contract (re-done in 2024), it makes sense for the Dolphins to hold Hill until June 2 or later. That's when the cap consequences can be spread over two years. For now, Hill has $28.296 million in unallocated bonus money that will hit the cap. A pre-June 1 trade means all of it lands in 2025. A post-June 1 trade limits the 2025 dead money to $12.728 million, with the remaining $15.568 million landing on the cap in 2026. The same dynamic has always meant cornerback Jalen Ramsey won't be traded until after June 1. And it means that any potential trade of Hill wouldn't happen until after June 1, too. It all comes down to whether a team is waiting for the calendar to migrate past May before making the call. And, more broadly, to whether another team is interested in taking on Hill's contract, which pays out $25.85 million fully guaranteed in 2025. While no one will offer a pair of first-round picks for Hill, Grier's comment from mid-April operates as an invitation to make an offer. Although Grier has disputed that the Dolphins are in a rebuilding year, the sudden interest in moving Ramsey suggests they are at least refocusing. They need players who are fully bought in. Despite Hill's ongoing effort to clean up the mess he made by telling the truth after the end of the 2024 regular season, he wasn't bought in. And even if he has somehow changed his mind, all it will take is a few losses in which he gets fewer targets than he expected, and the frustrations will return. It makes sense for the Dolphins to consider the opportunity to get a clean slate, if someone calls. The only question is whether there's another team that would be interested in taking on Hill's $25.85 million compensation package for 2025 — and in giving the Dolphins whatever it would take to get them to clear out a key player who may not truly believe he's playing for a contender. And who may not truly believe quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is good enough to make the Dolphins into one. When Hill was traded by the Chiefs in 2022, the two finalists were the Jets and the Dolphins. The Jets surely won't be interested this time around. So who would consider it now? The contenders that should at least ponder whether Hill can help get them over the top include the Ravens, Texans, Chargers, and 49ers. (The Bills should think about it, too. However, the Dolphins may not be interested in helping Buffalo get back to a Super Bowl.) The Bears also would be an intriguing option, especially with former Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy on the coaching staff. But they're currently loaded at receiver; it wouldn't work unless they'd send D.J. Moore to Miami as part of the trade. It's a long shot, for the Bears or any other team. But all it takes is one team to convince itself that Hill can be the difference maker. The guy who can help a team that is close to the mountaintop finish the climb. Maybe, in the end, Hill's recent effort to fix his image isn't about persuading the Dolphins to keep him. Maybe he's hoping it will convince a better team to come get him.

DeSean Jackson says Chiefs HC Andy Reid helped him secure the Delaware State job

DeSean Jackson says Chiefs HC Andy Reid helped him secure the Delaware State job Former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson recently appeared as a guest on the 'Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams' to reveal Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's influence on his hiring at Delaware State. "For sure, he's been very influential. He helped me, you know, in the process of getting this job, "said Jackson. "He put his career and his name on the line for me to get this job. So, I mean, it just shows you how much coach (Andy) Reid helped." Jackson officially retired from the NFL in November 2023 after successful stints with multiple teams. He then turned his attention to coaching, specifically at the college level. "So going through the process, the president and the athletic director asked about, you know, some guys that you know, in reference, and Coach Reid was one of those names that I dropped," said Jackson, "Sean McVay was another one I dropped was Deion Sanders, my old offensive coordinator. So I don't know exactly what the conversation was, but from what I got back from the president of Delaware State and the athletic director, they said some great things about me. They said how good of a leader I was. How can I demand a room? It's just my insight and my IQ on football. So I definitely think it helped me get the job." Jackson was drafted by Reid in 2008, who coached the Philadelphia Eagles at the time. He earned three Pro Bowl selections in his career. Reid congratulated him late last year after he officially accepted the job offer from Delaware State.

Chiefs rookie Jalen Royals is the future at WR for Patrick Mahomes

Chiefs rookie Jalen Royals is the future at WR for Patrick Mahomes Watch what Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals does to the Boise State safety on this play. Royals is a top 120 player on board for the 2025 NFL Draft. #NFLDraft #NFLDraft2025 #2025NFLDraft — Sam Teets (@Sam_Teets33) October 7, 2024 The Kansas City Chiefs landed one of the biggest steals of the 2025 NFL draft when they selected Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals at the back end of the fourth round. Royals might struggle to establish himself in a crowded wide receiver room as a rookie, but he projects as a massive part of Kansas City's future plans. Fans must remain realistic with their expectations for Royals' rookie season. He's a fourth round selection joining a room with three established playmakers and multiple fringe contributors. No one should panic if Royals turns in a quiet year because opportunities to break out loom on the horizon. Marquise Brown, Jason Brownlee, Travis Kelce, Skyy Moore, Nikko Remigio, Justyn Ross, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton are all free agents after the upcoming season. The Chiefs have the opportunity to completely reset their depth at their pass catching positions and redistribute the offense's targets. Additionally, only two years remain on Rashee Rice's cost-effective rookie contract. If the Chiefs take any inspiration from how the Pittsburgh Steelers handled George Pickens, they might offload Rice for picks or just let him walk. Either way, it seems unlikely an extension is coming for the former star rookie, considering lingering maturity concerns. All of this potential turnover clears the way for Royals to star alongside Xavier Worthy as Patrick Mahomes' top targets going into 2026 or 2027. Royals offers the athletic blend to fill multiple roles in Kansas City's offense. He's an explosive athlete with the burst to stack cornerbacks early in routes and the long speed to finish big plays in the end zone. Royals deploys some excellent route fakes and manipulates the cornerback's leverage with his route stem to create favorable space. Royals is much more than just a vertical threat. He's roughly the same size as Rice, although the rookie might not offer as much contact balance. Royals still provides excellent value on short, schemed touches. His acceleration and speed make him a threat to turn shallow crossing routes or slants into big gains. Rice received most of the offense's low-depth targets in 2024. Chiefs fans shouldn't expect splashy numbers from Royals in 2025 but should feel excited about the organization's long-term plans for the rookie.
