‘Please don't cut his body': Heartbreaking plea from father of Bengaluru stampede victim
A day after 11 people died in a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a grieving father appealed to officials to hand over his son's body without conducting a postmortem. 'Please don't cut his body. At least return him to me,' he told the media at Bowring Hospital, as reported by NDTV. His 18-year-old son had attended the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL victory celebration when a crowd surge outside the stadium led to the tragedy. Several others, including a 14-year-old girl, also died, and over 40 people were injured. The stampede occurred on Wednesday evening after more than three lakh people gathered for the public event, which offered free entry. The stadium, which seats around 35,000, was unable to handle the unexpected turnout. Narrow access points became choke zones as people tried to force their way in. (Also Read: Bengaluru stampede sparks 'Kumbh vs Chinnaswamy' debate over crowd chaos: 'No resignations, no accountability' Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, with a report expected in 15 days. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar apologised and said the government did not anticipate such a large crowd. He added that police had advised against certain processions earlier in the day and crowd control efforts were in place, but were overwhelmed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The Karnataka government has announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each of the deceased and promised free treatment for the injured. The Karnataka government will draft a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for large public events, meetings, and celebrations to improve safety and prevent future incidents, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Thursday. The decision follows the stampede near Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, which resulted in the deaths of 11 people during an RCB IPL victory celebration. Virat Kohli's endearing post for Anushka Sharma from RCB's victory parade: 'She suffered the same moments since 2014'
Royal Challengers Bengaluru star Virat Kohli, on Wednesday, shared a touching post for wife Anushka Sharma from the victory parade in Bengaluru, acknowledging her unwavering support over the years as the franchise chased their maiden IPL trophy. The long wait finally ended on Tuesday night in Ahmedabad, with the Rajat Patidar-led side beating Punjab Kings by six runs. On Instagram, Kohli posted a photo with Anushka from the celebrations at the Narendra Modi Stadium, accompanied by a heartwarming caption. He shared that since Anushka had witnessed RCB's journey up close since 2014, the title win was just as special for her. 'I've seen it for 18 years and she's seen it for 11. Suffered the same moments since 2014 and celebrated every close win and the madness of our supporters at the Chinnaswamy. We're both equally relieved and since she's a bangalore girl too this is far more special for her. Together all the way through,' he wrote. A post shared by Virat Kohli (@ Despite the rain in Bengaluru, RCB players, along with Kohli, assembled at Vidahna Soudha, where they were felicitated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Earlier in the day, the RCB players were received by the state's Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar at the airport. "Virat Kohli, from past 18 years, has given his youth, his experience, his love, and his heart (to RCB) and made our state proud. I stand here with the heartfelt support of all the youngsters of our state," Shivakumar told PTI Videos. "On behalf of the Karnataka government, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of them and wish them continued success. 18 years of struggle is not a small thing," he added. The entire RCB team will later be part of the much-anticipated open-top bus parade from Vidhana Soudha to the stadium, which will also start at 5 pm after the CM gave special permission for it. It was earlier stated by the Bengaluru Traffic Police that it might not take place because of congestion on the route.

Rare 1969 photo of Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium foundation ceremony goes viral
A rare photo capturing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Bengaluru's iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium has gone viral on social media, taking cricket fans down memory lane. Shared by X user Harish Itagi, the black-and-white image shows M Chinnaswamy himself performing a pooja at the site on May 18, 1969, 56 years ago. "It's an iconic picture," Itagi wrote, noting the photo's historical value and the stadium's place as the home of Karnataka cricket. (Also Read: Can you guess this Indian city from the 1950s? Streets with vintage cars and zero traffic) The original source of the photo remains unknown, though it continues to circulate widely online. The foundation stone for what was originally known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Stadium was laid in 1969. While the stadium is now synonymous with the state's cricketing achievements, many are unaware of its origins and the man it is named after. Mangalam Chinnaswamy, born in Mandya 124 years ago, was not just a cricket enthusiast but a visionary administrator. A lawyer by profession, he served the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for nearly four decades, first as secretary and later as president, until his retirement in 1990. Chinnaswamy also held several key positions at the national level, including serving as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) between 1977 and 1980. He played a pivotal role in securing land for the stadium next to Cubbon Park, convincing the then Mysore government to lease it to the KSCA for 100 years. In 1987, four years before his passing and reportedly against his own wishes, the KSCA renamed the stadium in his honour, acknowledging his decades-long service to Indian cricket. Apart from his cricketing legacy, Chinnaswamy was also a founder of Bengaluru's MES group of educational institutions, further cementing his contribution to the city's development.
