Marvel Studios Surprisingly Cancels Hall H San Diego Comic Con Appearance
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) has become the prime place for any nerdy property to announce new projects and give exciting updates. More Entertainment: Chris Hemsworth Video Has Fans Thinking He's Leaving MCU This is definitely the case with Marvel Studios, which has had countless reveals during its iconic Hall H panels. This includes last year when it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would take on the role of Victor Von Doom, AKA Doctor Doom. Needless to say, fans were excited to see what exactly Marvel Studios would reveal during this year's panel. Unfortunately, it looks like fans will have to keep waiting. SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA - JULY 25: Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios speaks onstage during Marvel Studios: The Ultimate Deadpool & Wolverine Celebration of Life in Hall H at SDCC in San Diego, California on July... SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA - JULY 25: Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios speaks onstage during Marvel Studios: The Ultimate Deadpool & Wolverine Celebration of Life in Hall H at SDCC in San Diego, California on July 25, 2024. Morefor Disney According to a report from Aaron Couch and Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios will "break with tradition and not have its infamous, senses-shattering Saturday evening Hall H panel." Marvel Studios will not have a major Hall H panel at SDCC this year. (Source: — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) May 30, 2025 This is largely because the next major film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 'Fantastic Four: First Steps,' is set to open that weekend. Additionally, 'Avengers: Doomsday' has been pushed to December 2026, meaning that the cast is currently filming and Marvel has another SDCC before the film will be released in theaters. That being said, this doesn't mean that Marvel will be completely absent from SDCC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they will still have "numerous panels about comics, games and more" as well as a "fully redesigned and immersive booth that leans into the release of Fantastic Four." More Entertainment: 'The Boys' Antony Starr Calls Out Fans 'Glorifying' Homelander While this may be surprising to most fans, it isn't the first time Marvel Studios has skipped its Hall H panel. Marvel Studios was focused on filming the original 'Avengers' film in 2011, they had no footage to share in 2015, and several films were wrapping production in 2018 with nothing new to show. On top of that, Marvel was missing in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2023 due to the Actors and Writers strikes. Even though this isn't unprecedented, it's still surprising to see Marvel taking such a big step back. Time will tell who will move in to take the highly coveted spot. Fans are Convinced Marvel is Going to Kill Off Thor in Recent Post from Chris Hemsworth
With Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans bowing out of the MCU after Endgame , it was Chris Hemsworth who was left behind to keep reprising Thor for Marvel Studios. With him expected to make an appearance in Doomsday , a lot of fans are convinced that this could be Hemsworth's last time as the God of Thunder because of a recent statement he made. Hemsworth (via @CultureCrave) wrote: 'Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me' 'Thank you for making my journey through the MCU unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!' At this point, everyone was already convinced that this means that they could be killing him off in the movie. Fans have replied with, 'Ya he's getting cooked ,' and, ' Oh he's not coming back after Doomsday.' With all of his other co-stars having moved on, it would make sense for Hemsworth to drop out of the MCU eventually. After all, he did go public with a diagnosis of him being susceptible to Alzheimer's disease, and it's possible he could be taking the time to process that. Personally, I was just hoping that they kept him around in a limited role. Thor eventually takes the place of Odin in the comics, and it would have been great if Hemsworth could just stick around in a chair ruling Asgard and being mentor to a new Thor. For now, fans wait for Avengers: Doomsday which comes out Dec. 18, 2026.
