UPSC-Kerala PSC exams' date clash sparks concern among aspirants
A group of sub-inspector (SI) job aspirants has petitioned the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) to postpone its upcoming SI (Trainee) Mains examination, citing a scheduling clash with the UPSC Civil Services Mains examination. The SI Mains exam is scheduled for August 30, which coincides with one of the dates of the UPSC Mains exam. The UPSC Civil Services Mains examination is set to be conducted on August 22, 23, 24, 30 and 31. With both exams slated for the same day, many candidates now fear they may be forced to forgo one opportunity in favour of the other. The aspirants, who have been preparing for both examinations, argue that the clash is unjust since its denies their rightful opportunity, and could have been avoided. They point out that the UPSC schedule was released nearly a year in advance, giving the Kerala PSC ample time to avoid overlap. The clash has also created challenges for some differently abled candidates, some of whom have cleared the UPSC Preliminary examination after multiple attempts. With their originally assigned scribes now expected to appear for the Kerala PSC examination on the same day, the aspirants are left scrambling to find replacements at the last minute. However, an official pointed out that postponing the SI examination at this stage would be impractical since the examination centres have already been finalised and hall tickets issued. A last-minute change would lead to widespread confusion and financial loss.
