Kentucky 2027 tight end Seneca Driver plans to make a third trip to Notre Dame
Notre Dame has made quite the impact on four-star Class of 2027 tight end Seneca Driver, so much so that the Kentucky product is planning a third trip to South Bend according to Irish Sports Daily. After having visited campus twice this past spring and getting a Fighting Irish offer in March during 'Pot of Gold Day', the Boyle County (Danville, KY) product has stayed in touch with assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin, offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Denbrock and head coach Marcus Freeman. And he appreciates the family-like atmosphere that has been built within the program. The 6-foot-6, 223-pounder, who is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Kentucky per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, does not have a specific date in place for his next visit, but he wants to go to a home game this fall to see how the Irish utilize their tight ends fully within the offense. As many ND fans already know, tight end has been an integral part of the offense for quite awhile in South Bend. Driver's offer sheet also includes power programs such as Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Penn State and Texas, among others. But the Irish have a strong history at the position, which bodes well for them in the recruitment of Driver. Top Notre Dame 2027 wide reciever target takes notice of Teddy Jarrard's commitment
When elite Class of 2027 quarterback Teddy Jarrard pledged to Notre Dame on Thursday, many college football observers took notice. And that includes Fighting Irish wide receiver target Antayvious Ellis, a fellow member of the 2027 class. Irish head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have been able to put together a monster 2026 haul, so it is no surprise that the momentum has kept rolling as they start to assemble their 2027 class. The addition of Jarrard, a four-star North Cobb (Kennesaw, GA) prospect, was massive, as he chose the Irish over Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan and Penn State. Could Ellis, a Crowley product (Crowley, TX), be next? ND has very good recent history with Lone Star State wideouts, including Jaden Greathouse, who is poised for a breakout 2025 campaign. And the 2026 class includes Kaydon Finley and Brayden Robinson. Ellis is a four-star prospect and the No. 40 player in the state of Texas, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He has offers from several major powers besides Notre Dame, including Texas, Oregon and USC, among several others. The 6-foot, 175-pounder had 55 receptions for 794 yards and 11 touchdowns as a sophomore last season. 2027 QB Teddy Jarrard commits to Notre Dame over Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State
When Notre Dame advanced to the College Football Playoff national championship, it created the kind of problem head coach Marcus Freeman welcomed. Spending most of January preparing for Ohio State meant the Irish coaching staff couldn't scour the country looking for its next quarterback. That put the Irish staff relatively behind when it came to assessing quarterbacks in the Class of 2027, as everybody else — other than Ohio State — got a jump on the next cycle. Advertisement Now, Notre Dame is officially caught up. On Thursday afternoon, four-star quarterback Teddy Jarrard committed to Notre Dame over finalists Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect from Kennesaw, Ga., was one of just two quarterbacks offered by the Irish this summer, along with Peyton Houston from Shreveport, La. Notre Dame didn't make those offers until mid-June. Jarrard visited Notre Dame about two weeks before picking up that offer, as part of a busy summer that included visits to his other four finalists, along with LSU, Arkansas and Clemson. Jarrard also last month attended the Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Indianapolis, where he earned quarterback MVP honors while working with prospects a year older, including Notre Dame running back commitment Javian Osborne. That recruiting showcase offered some insight into where Jarrard might be headed in the national rankings, which remain inconclusive. After the Rivals event, Jarrard jumped to No. 52 overall, No. 5 among Georgia prospects and No. 2 among quarterbacks on the network. That's in contrast to 247 Sports, which has Jarrard as a three-star prospect, No. 18 among quarterbacks and No. 35 among prospects from Georgia. Jarrard still has two more years to prove where he really belongs in those rankings. He'll finish his high school career as a four-year starter, playing two seasons at North Cobb Christian before transferring to North Cobb High School. Last fall, Jarrard led North Cobb Christian to an 11-2 record while completing 222 of 323 passes for 2,762 yards and 31 touchdowns. Jarrard is Notre Dame's third commitment in the Class of 2027, following linebacker Ellis McGaskin (Mobile, Ala.) and long snapper Sean Kraft (Asheville, N.C.).

U.S. Junior storylines: Charlie Woods among several PGA Tour sons; Lefty takeover at the top
Yes, you're getting old. Competing in this week's U.S. Junior Amateur at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas are four sons of current or former PGA Tour players – Jackson Byrd, Trevor Gutschewski, Cameron Kuchar and Charlie Woods. Byrd is the 18-year-old son of Jonathan Byrd, who won five times on the PGA Tour and was rookie of the year in 2022. He was runner-up to Russell at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley earlier this year. He starts this fall at Clemson, where his uncle, Jordan Byrd, is the head coach. Gutschewski, 18 and the oldest son of three-time Korn Ferry Tour winner Scott Gutschewski, returns to defend his title, marking the first U.S. Junior champion to get that opportunity since Nick Dunlap in 2022 (Dunlap made the semifinals that year). Gutschewski missed the cut at last month's U.S. Open at Oakmont, though he rebounded quickly to win the Western Junior. He'll begin his college career at Florida this fall. Kuchar, 17, makes his USGA debut after recently finishing runner-up to Gutschewski at the Western Junior and verbally committing to TCU. His dad, Matt Kuchar, is a nine-time PGA Tour winner, nine-time Ryder and Presidents Cupper, Olympic bronze medalist and USGA champion (1997 U.S. Amateur). And then there's Woods, the 16-year-old son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods. Woods qualified for his second straight U.S. Junior, a tournament his dad won three times among his nine USGA titles. Woods is a rising junior at the Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Florida, and the Class of 2027 recruit can officially talk to college coaches as of last month. He's also shot up the AJGA rankings, cracking the top 20 after winning the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, beating top-ranked junior Miles Russell by six shots in the process. Woods shot 22 over in last year's U.S. Junior debut at Oakland Hills, tying for 240th in the 264-player field. This year's field is also 264 players deep with 38 states and 33 countries represented. The top 64 players after 36 holes of stroke play will advance to Wednesday's first round of match play. The 36-hole final is slated for Saturday. Here are the other big storylines entering the 77th edition of the U.S. Junior: Lefty takeover Not only are the top three players in this field – Miles Russell, Luke Colton and Tyler Watts – all ranked in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking, but all three are lefthanded. Russell, 16, is the highest ranked of the trio, at No. 18. The Class of 2027 star recently gave his verbal commitment to Florida State and owns victories this year at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley and AJGA Simplify Boys Championship, plus a runner-up at the Northeast Amateur. He also has won the Boys Junior PGA and AJGA Junior Players, so the U.S. Junior is the last major junior title still eluding him. Colton, an 18-year-old Vanderbilt commit from Frisco, Texas, is ranked No. 25 in the world. He's already playing his fifth USGA championship and has twice reached match play at the U.S. Junior. He's the two-time defending champion of the Terra Cotta Amateur. No. 45 Watts, 17, is arguably having the best summer of the three. He won the Sunnehanna Amateur in June with a record 18-under score and a few weeks later reached the final of the North and South Amateur. He also lost to Trevor Gutschewski is last year's U.S. Junior final at Oakland Hills. He's verbally committed to Tennessee. Can he Mawhinney? It's hard to believe this is Tyler Mawhinney's U.S. Junior debut. The 17-year-old from Fleming Island, Florida, already has a USGA title under his belt, teaming with future Vanderbilt teammate Will Hartman, who is also in this week's field, to win this year's U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Mawhinney also won last year's Canadian Men's Amateur and then took advantage of his exemption into the PGA Tour's RBC Canadian Open last month, tying for 65th. Mawhinney also reached the Round of 16 at last summer's U.S. Amateur. Qatar, not a drawer At 14 years old, Daniil Sokolov is one of the youngest players in the field. Only 13-year-olds Luka Tiger Peterman Castillo and Salem Alabdallat are younger. Sokolov is also the first player from Qatar ever to play a USGA championship. Sokolov was born in South Korea to Russian parents and moved to Qatar when he was 5 years old. He was a bronze medalist at the 2024 Arab Junior Championship and has twice played in the DP World Tour's Qatar Masters, missing the cut both times. Home cooking There are 17 Texans teeing it up this week, second most of any state behind only California (24). Among them is 18-year-old Reese Roberts of Dallas. Roberts is a Missouri signee and attended the same high school as two-time U.S. Junior champion Jordan Spieth, Jesuit College Prep in Dallas. Roberts has won Spieth's AJGA event, doing so last year, the same year that he won the Texas State Amateur at Trinity Forest.

Notre Dame ‘27 recruit Julius Jones Jr. will play in the ‘26 Under Armour All-America game
Notre Dame legacy recruit Julius Jones Jr. has announced that he will play in the 2026 Under Armour All-America game. Jones Jr., who was recently named the MVP by On3 at the Under Armour Future 50, is one of the top recruits in the Class of 2027. The St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) four-star wide receiver (No. 56 in the 247Sports Composite) is the son of former Fighting Irish running back Julius Jones. The younger Jones is one of only a few 2027 recruits that will get a chance to play in the game that takes place January. Last year, Under Armour started to allow high school juniors to participate in the event, which had previously been restricted to top prep seniors only. Jones received his offer from the Irish on March 17 during the program's Pot of Gold Day recruiting event. Last season, he led powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in receiving as a sophomore. He caught 51 passes for 750 yards (14.7 yards per catch) and 6 touchdowns. In addition to Notre Dame, Jones has offers from major powers such as LSU, Ohio State and Penn State.
