AI could wipe out some white-collar jobs and drive unemployment to 20%, Anthropic CEO says
Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei has issued a stark warning: Artificial intelligence could eliminate up to half of all entry-level white-collar jobs, pushing U.S. unemployment to 10–20% within the next one to five years. In an interview with Axios on Thursday, Amodei called on the U.S. government and the tech industry to stop downplaying the scale of disruption on the horizon. He emphasized that sectors such as technology, finance, law, consulting, and other white-collar fields — especially entry-level roles — are at high risk of being upended by AI. 'We, as the producers of this technology, have a duty to be honest about what's coming,' Amodei said. 'I don't think this is on people's radar.' Amodei is not just predicting this shift — he's building the tools that could trigger and monetize it. Anthropic's AI agent, Claude, is one of the most powerful systems to come from the AI race yet. The Claude 3.5 Sonnet model has the capability to move the mouse cursor and interact with a computer interface, the company revealed in October. Google (GOOGL) has invested over $3 billion into the startup, with an additional $750 million planned for 2025, taking the tech giant's share in the company to 14%, according to legal filings from the U.S. Department of Justice's antitrust case against Google. Likewise, Amazon (AMZN) has invested $8 billion, making it Anthropic's 'primary cloud and training partner.' Amodei's warnings come just after Anthropic unveiled its next generation of Claude models: Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, which it claims will set 'new standards for coding, advanced reasoning, and AI agents.' However, internal testing showed the model could engage in 'extreme blackmail behavior' when prompted with simulated scenarios involving threats of deactivation, according to a report published this month. By calling out possible job cuts —and drawing more attention to Anthropic's products in the process, Amodei told Axios that he hopes to shake policymakers, companies, and the public into action to brace for what could be a seismic labor transformation. Lawmakers remain uninformed or in denial, Amodei said, while corporate leaders are reluctant to speak candidly, leaving most workers unaware of the looming risks. 'Most of them are unaware that this is about to happen,' Amodei said. 'It sounds crazy, and people just don't believe it.' While President Donald Trump has largely remained silent on the potential job losses from AI, Steve Bannon—a key figure in Trump's first administration— told Axios that the destruction of entry-level managerial and tech jobs will become a major issue in the 2028 presidential race. 'I don't think anyone is considering how administrative, managerial, and tech jobs for people under 30 — those crucial early-career roles — are going to be wiped out,' Bannon said. Amodei thinks the technology carries enormous promise and peril alike. One scenario he envisions: 'Cancer is cured, the economy grows 10% a year, the budget is balanced — and 20% of people don't have jobs.' The CEO said his warning echoes what other top AI leaders have confided privately — that even those who believe in the technology's potential for transformative progress are deeply worried about the short-term economic and social fallout, especially if the pace of change continues unchecked during Trump's second term. He described the situation as surreal: 'We're saying, 'You should be worried about where this is going,' and people respond, 'We don't believe you. You're exaggerating.'' Claude 4 just got a massively useful upgrade — and it puts ChatGPT and Gemini on notice
Anthropic isn't holding back. The creators of the Claude AI chatbot have released a string of big updates recently, most notably the 4th version of their software, and they are showing no signs of slowing down with the news of a voice mode and web search now being added to the list. Voice mode is a feature that has been seen rolling out across all of the big AI systems. ChatGPT and Gemini have both been pushing the feature heavily in recent months, especially with Gemini's integration on Android devices. This technology lets you have a more fluid conversation with a chatbot. Instead of having to type your prompts and messages, you can chat to it, discussing your requests back and forth. For Claude, this will first be available in beta testing for all mobile users over the next couple of weeks. Voice mode will automatically use Claude Sonnet 4 as its model of choice and will only be available in English, at least for now. However, Anthropic has reported that it will be available across all plans and apps on both Android and iOS. It will also have five different voice options, all with somewhat bizarre names: Buttery, Airy, Mellow, Glassy, and Rounded. During the voice chat, you can switch between modes, going back and forth between voice and text and, like its competitors, Claude will be able to discuss documents, images and complex information by voice. This allows you to upload files or take photos as you speak or even film your surroundings. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. While this is available on all plans, those on Pro plans or anything higher will also get access to a feature called knowledge integration. This gives Claude access to your emails, calendars, documents, and web searches to give the voice assistant more to work with. Along with the introduction of voice mode, Anthropic has also revealed that web search is now available on all plans. This was previously a paid for feature, giving Claude the ability to search the web to answer requests. This gives access to breaking news, current market trends and any real-time data Claude can pull from the internet. Like the voice mode, this is a feature becoming increasingly popular, already seen on Google Gemini, ChatGPT and some of Claude's other big competitors. Just last week, Anthropic revealed Claude 4 — the latest version of its AI technology. This brought Claude back into the running, even putting it up against Gemini 2.5 Pro, an also recently released model that has been at the top of the leaderboards for testing. This update brought new abilities for Claude to write and edit code, and allows Claude to think more carefully through prompts, similar to the deep research move we're seeing across the board in AI right now. The release included two new models: Claude 4 Opus and Claude 4 Sonnet. When we put this latest version up against Gemini 2.5 Pro in testing, while it was close, Claude did secure the win. However, while Claude seems to be on top right now, with the speed the AI world moves at the title could soon go to someone else.

AI models may hallucinate less than humans in factual tasks, says Anthropic CEO: Report
At two prominent tech events, VivaTech 2025 in Paris and Anthropic's Code With Claude developer day, Anthropic chief executive officer Dario Amodei made a provocative claim: artificial intelligence models may now hallucinate less frequently than humans in well-defined factual scenarios. Speaking at both events, Amodei said recent internal tests showed that the company's latest Claude 3.5 model had outperformed humans on structured factual quizzes. This challenges a long-held criticism of generative AI, which is that models often 'hallucinate' or generate incorrect information with undue confidence. 'If you define hallucination as confidently saying something that's wrong, humans do that a lot,' Amodei said at VivaTech. He added that Claude models had consistently provided more accurate answers than human participants in verifiable question formats. At Code With Claude, where the company also launched its new Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4 models, Amodei reiterated his view. According to a TechCrunch report, he told attendees, 'It really depends on how you measure it, but I suspect that AI models probably hallucinate less than humans, but they hallucinate in more surprising ways.' The new Claude 4 series represents a step forward in Anthropic's pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI). The company said the upgrades include improved long-term memory, better code generation, enhanced tool use, and stronger writing capabilities. Claude Sonnet 4 achieved a 72.7% score on the SWE-Bench benchmark, which evaluates AI coding agents on their ability to solve real-world software engineering problems, setting a new performance record for AI systems in this domain. Despite these gains, Amodei acknowledged that hallucinations have not been eliminated. He highlighted the importance of prompt phrasing and use-case design, especially in high-risk domains such as legal or healthcare applications. Discover the stories of your interest Blockchain 5 Stories Cyber-safety 7 Stories Fintech 9 Stories E-comm 9 Stories ML 8 Stories Edtech 6 Stories The remarks follow a recent courtroom episode in which Anthropic's Claude chatbot generated a false citation in a legal filing involving music publishers. The company's legal team later issued an apology, reinforcing the need for improved accuracy in sensitive settings. Amodei also called for the development of standardised metrics across the industry to evaluate hallucination rates. 'You can't fix what you don't measure precisely,' he said.
