To me, my spoilers! Clayface During a recent interview with Comic Book, Mike Flanagan revealed his Clayface script was 'absolutely' inspired by the Batman: The Animated Series two-part episode, 'Feat of Clay', while also clarifying that he's uncertain what will change now that the film is undergoing re-writes. I mean that is the perfect [story]. 'Feat of Clay,' Ron Perlman, to me, that's it. That two-parter knocked me out. The short answer is that is absolutely what inspired my script. That is the world I wanted to live in. I don't know what they're doing with Clayface. I'm not directing it, and that filmmaker will need to make it their own. I know that they're doing work on the script. I'm off doing other things now. I really hope it remains true to the spirit of what I wanted it to be. But it's not my movie, so I'll be in the audience with you, anxious to see how it comes out. The Dark Tower Mike Flanagan also provided Comic Book with an update on his planned TV series adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower. It's not that I've put it down. It's just that the thing is so big, it's like building an oil tanker. We've been moving it forward this whole time. It's just, that's how big it is. It's constantly in the works, and you better believe as often as you guys may want to ask about it, Stephen King is asking me about it more, and I'm not gonna let him down. New Rumor Claims These Four Actors Are Reading for the Title Role in James Watkins' CLAYFACE Movie at DC — GeekTyrant
A new rumor has surfaced which claims four actors are said to be in the running to play the title role in director James Watkins' ( Speak No Evil ) solo Clayface movie for DC Studios. According to MTTSH (via CBM), George MacKay ( 1917 , The Beast ), Tom Blythe ( The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes ), Jack O'Connell ( Sinners , Starred Up ) and Leo Woodall ( One Day , The White Lotus ) are all testing for the part, with "one of them expected to land it." This is just a rumor for now, so we will just have to wait and see how it works out. Do you have a preference in who gets cast in the role? The report went on to talk about the film, saying: "Sources say the film is budgeted at $40 million and is a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay." Gunn will produce alongside Co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran, and The Batman director Matt Reeves, with Lynn Harris and Chantal Nong serving as executive producers. Mike Flanagan penned the script, but was reportedly unavailable to direct due to his commitments to a Carrie TV series and the new Exorcist movie. The project has been given an official release date of September 11, 2026.

Mike Flanagan Confirms His CLAYFACE Movie Script Was Inspired by BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES — GeekTyrant
Mike Flanagan is one hell of a filmmaker and storyteller, and in the projects he works on, he's no stranger to horror or heartbreak. It sounds like both were baked into his original vision for Clayface . While promoting his new film, The Life of Chuck , the filmmaker opened up about the DC project he once had his hands on and confirmed that his version of Clayface was heavily inspired by the acclaimed two-part Batman: The Animated Series episode 'Feat of Clay.' When asked if his script was inspired by that, Flanagan told ComicBook: 'Of course it was. I mean that is the perfect [story]. 'Feat of Clay,' Ron Perlman, to me, that's it. That two-parter knocked me out. The short answer is that is absolutely that is what inspired my script. 'That is the world I wanted to live in. Batman: The Animated Series when I was growing up was my Batman. As much as [Michael] Keaton was my Batman, The Animated Series really was my Batman.' That emotional anchor from the animated series clearly left a mark on Flanagan. While he's not directing the film due to other projects like Carrie, his story may still shape the final product. A new writer has since jumped on the project, and word is, it's said to be getting a page one rewrite, which is a shame, if true. Flanagan went on to say: 'I don't know what they're doing with Clayface. I'm not directing it, and that filmmaker will need to make it their own. I know that they're doing work on the script. 'I'm off doing other things now, I really hope it remains true to the spirit of what I wanted it to be. But it's not my movie, so I'll be in the audience with you, anxious to see how it comes out.' Clayface is currently slated as the third film in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe, with a September 2026 release date. James Watkins ( The Woman in Black ) is attached to direct, and the screenplay is currently being revised by Hossein Amini ( Drive, Obi-Wan Kenobi ). No casting has been announced, but production is expected to begin later this year. As for 'Feat of Clay,' it tells the tragic origin of Matt Hagen, a disfigured actor who, in desperation, uses an experimental chemical called Renuyu to shapeshift and keep working. The thing is, It's addictive, and he becomes a puppet for corrupt businessman Roland Daggett, leading to his horrific transformation into Clayface. That storyline is packed with body horror and emotional despair, feels like something Flanagan could have knocked out of the park. Previous story reports hinted that Clayface would follow a washed-up B-movie actor who takes a mysterious substance to stay relevant. It's not hard to see how Flanagan might have riffed on the classic Daggett/Hagen dynamic, updated for a new audience, but still rooted in themes of desperation, addiction, and exploitation. Hopefully, not everything that Flanagan delivered in his script will be scrubbed away. With Amini's track record and Watkins' eye for atmosphere, Clayface could very well be DC's first true body horror character study. A monster movie with a soul. And while Flanagan isn't behind the camera, here's hoping the bones of his version stay intact. Because if done right, this could be a great film.

Review – Zatanna #4: Black and White
Zatanna #4 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: Jamal Campbell's unique take on Zatanna has been taking our heroine further and further down the rabbit hole, as she gets closer to the plot cooked up by two of her deadliest enemies – the mysterious Lady in White, and the ruthless sorcerer Brother Night. After killing her friend Adam and capturing Blue Devil, they sent Zatanna into a strange new world – one ruled over by Clayface, desperately trying to reclaim the world he had lost. Now that Clayface is defeated, he's joined Zatanna as a literal sliver of his former self who has been broken out of the stupor he was in. I'm glad to see Clayface's characterization being more reminiscent of the one we saw in Detective Comics under Tynion. But despite this new alliance, Zatanna is increasingly finding it difficult to keep fighting. Her friends from the theater try to support her, but it's clear she's starting to see her magic not just as a threat but a curse. Nightmares. Via DC Comics. But there's no time to dwell on this – because the two villains are working together now, and they have a nasty surprise for Zatanna. The back half of the issue is essentially a twisted supernatural circus, as Brother Night and the Lady in White turn some of her closest enemies against her. Adam has been resurrected and turned into a masked maniac, while Blue Devil has been turned into exactly what he appears to be – a raging demon. Zatanna's powers are pushed to their limit, and they seem to be literally tearing her apart. There's a great horror vibe to some of the scenes here, but at the same time there's a very intriguing mystery that might just center around Zatanna's mother and the stories she told her daughter. Compared to Zatanna's father, we know extremely little about her, and this story could be the chance to fix that. And above all, it's just incredible how good this one-man comic looks. ‘Avengers: Doomsday' Set Pictures May Tease a Huge X-Men Threat
David Dastmalchian wants in on Clayface. Margaret Qualley has had to drop out of Victorian Psycho. Plus, get new looks at Bring Her Back and the return of Rick & Morty. To me, my spoilers! Night After Night Deadline reports Josh Lobo (I Trapped the Devil) is attached to direct Night After Night, a 'sci-fi thriller' starring Johnny Sibilly, Alexis Louder, Trace Lysette, AJ Bowen, Scott Poythress, Horace Gold, Melissa Macedo, Michelle Macedo, and Jennifer Blair. The story concerns 'two overnight security guards at a private university whose grip on reality begins to unravel after the appearance of a mute figure who returns each night without explanation.' Species Meanwhile, Screen Daily reports Karin Viard, Mara Taquin, Kim Higelin, Sami Outalbali, Stefan Crepon and Sonia Faidi are attached to star in Species a French body horror film baring no relation to the 1995 film of the same title. Directed by Marion Le Corroller and eaturing special effects from Pierre-Olivier Persin (The Substance), the story concerns 'a young medical student working at an ER [who] witnesses a new virus spreading among young patients, a mysterious mutation among the new generation that starts affecting her.' Victorian Psycho According to Deadline, Maika Monroe has replaced Margaret Qualley in the lead role of Victorian Psycho. Clayface David Dastmalchian revealed to /Film he's actively campaigning to play Clayface in the new DCU project. The thing that made me want to add it to my roster was honestly, first and foremost, the people involved. That's the most important thing to me. You're going to spend precious hours of your life, which is so short, with people making something? It's the people. And Paul and Chris [Weitz] are very special human beings. I am always looking for something that scares me, looking for something that's outside of the realm of what I've normally gotten the opportunity to do. Something that's going to take me to a new place where I can push myself. I grew up obsessed with the work of artists like Lon Chaney, who transformed in both visual and energetic ways. And I love the idea of running into somebody and them saying, 'You remind me of the guy that kind of was like the person in The Thing, but that couldn't be you.' I dream of that. I dream of being truly transformative, and I'll just keep working at it for the rest of my life so I can be like Clayface. I want to be Clayface.
