CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was rushed to the hospital Friday after Clearwater authorities said he crashed his moped into a wall and was thrown off an overpass. Multiple 911 calls reporting the crash started pouring into dispatch around 6:21 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the City of Clearwater. DUI driver who killed Lake Placid teen drove 5x the legal limit Officials said the moped rider was heading south on U.S. 19, near Seville Boulevard, when he crashed into a retaining wall on the overpass. He was then thrown over the wall and landed on the access road below. First responders rushed the man to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital as a trauma alert with potential life-threatening injuries. There was no further word on his condition. One southbound lane of U.S. 19 was closed while authorities investigated. One lane of the access road was also shut down. Watch: Missing autistic eight-year-old girl is rescued by police clinging to rocks in Florida

An eight-year-old non-verbal autistic girl was rescued from rocks after going missing on a family vacation in Florida. Clearwater Police Department found the child by the ocean after an urgent call reported she couldn't swim. The released video shows Officer Billups calmly approaching the child, "Hey, give me your hand, be careful, be careful," as he strategically pulled her to safety from the precarious position where she was clinging to rocks in the water. Police said that if the girl had fallen into the water, it was likely she would have drowned in the dangerous current. In a statement shared on Facebook, the police department lauded Officer Billups, saying, "Thankfully, he was able to safely bring her out of the dangerous area and reunite her with her family."

‘Enraged' Clearwater woman beats puppy, covers it in pickle juice, hot sauce: police

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A puppy was left unable to walk properly and covered in pickle juice and hot sauce after an incident at a Clearwater apartment Thursday, according to an arrest affidavit. Clearwater police said La'Myah Rumph, the 19-year-old owner of the pit bull puppy, became 'enraged' after the 5-month-old dog had an accident in her bedroom and defecated on the bed. 'Pure evil': Lakeland man sets house on fire with roommates inside, Judd says According to investigators, Rumph aggressively grabbed the puppy by its neck, lifted it into the air and struck it with her fist. She then threw the dog into a crate, so hard that officials said it broke the metal door. However, she didn't stop there. Police said Rumph went on to throw a 'copious' amount of pickle juice and hot sauce on the puppy as it was lying within the cage. Officers who were called to the Alpine Road apartment found the puppy covered in sauce inside the cage. They said the dog was 'trembling, shaking, upset and visibly distraught.' Police also noticed that the area in and around the cage was 'scattered with feces,' the affidavit said. The puppy was unable to fully bear weight on its left hind leg due to injuries sustained from the incident. Pinellas County Animal Control took custody of the puppy, and it was taken to a veterinarian to be further examined. Rumph was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals. Her bond was set at $5,000. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
