Browns predicted to trade Colorado legend Shedeur Sanders to heavyweight AFC Super Bowl contender

The Cleveland Browns still have a long way to go in determining who their starting quarterback will be for the rapidly approaching season. It feels like just yesterday the Eagles dismantled the Chiefs, preventing them from securing a third consecutive Super Bowl title. While there's no definitive path the Browns appear to be taking, speculation continues to swirl. Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick believes veteran Joe Flacco will get the starting nod to begin the season. Advertisement 'If I was a betting man, Joe Flacco is gonna go into the year as the starter,' Fitzpatrick said. 'He has history there, he has success there, and I think it's a great story. He's a guy that'll bring calm, he's the guy that's going to be able to get them off on the right foot,' Fitzpatrick said. 'As the season goes along, when you draft guys early, and when you have young exciting guys, they're excited for Gabriel, we could see him inserted into the lineup.' Many believe Gabriel will eventually get a shot at the starting role, but Shedeur Sanders likely won't. Former NFL wide receiver Cecil Shorts thinks the competition should be between the rookies. 'Let them battle it out, choose one and ride with them and see what they can do," Shorts said about the rookies. "And I'm not big on switching quarterbacks... I hate that. Let the rookie battle all 17 games; if he's healthy, battle all 17 games. Let him develop. Let him get better.' However, with Sanders not expected to get a serious opportunity to start, Dawg Pound Daily's Mark Sipos suggests a trade to the Buffalo Bills. Advertisement Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp 'Josh Allen is locked in as the starter, and Mitchell Trubisky is back as the veteran backup. But behind them, there's room for a developmental quarterback," Sipos said. "Sanders would be a low-risk, high-upside addition who could sit behind Allen, learn in a structured offense, and grow without pressure. Buffalo's staff could work on refining his timing and decision-making while giving him a stable environment to develop in the background,' Sipos wrote. This move could be highly beneficial for Sanders, putting him in a place he wouldn't need to worry about being cut. It also presents the opportunity to learn from one of the league's best and potentially win a Super Bowl in his first year.

"I needed that" - Kyrie Irving says he had more talented teammates in Boston than in Cleveland

"I needed that" - Kyrie Irving says he had more talented teammates in Boston than in Cleveland originally appeared on Basketball Network. Recently, Kyrie Irving hosted a stream with fellow NBA player Jaylen Brown. They were teammates during Irving's time with the Boston Celtics — a period often viewed as a dark chapter, given how it unfolded. Advertisement But there's a saying: in every crisis, there's a silver lining. So, surely there had to be at least one positive memory from that time? JB posed that exact question to his former teammate — and Irving gave an interesting answer. From Cleveland to Boston After the 2017 NBA Finals loss against the Golden State Warriors, Irving demanded a trade to become the undisputed leader of his own team. During six seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the top pick of the 2011 Draft had grown into an elite point guard and one-time NBA champion while watching a steady stream of teammates come and go — some outstanding, others less so. Advertisement Among the best were LeBron James, who returned to his hometown team after back-to-back titles with the Miami Heat and Kevin Love, an All-Star who joined before the 2014–15 season from the Minnesota Timberwolves. The rest of the guys were mostly role players and veterans. However, when Irving finally got his wish and joined the Boston Celtics via trade during the 2017 NBA offseason, things looked much different. His new team, led by the young, talented duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, along with All-Stars Gordon Hayward and Al Horford — plus future Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart — was stacked with talent from top to bottom. Advertisement Every player needs that competitiveness around him to grow and from day one, Irving embraced his new surroundings — especially after what the former Duke Blue Devil had experienced in his early NBA years. "Bro, to be on the floor with that much talent after being in Cleveland. I needed that change of pace," said Irving. "You were challenging me every day and I needed that. I need that for sure," he told Brown during their casual NBA 2K session. Advertisement Both of his parents had attended Boston University, becoming college sweethearts. Dederick Irving played for BU's basketball team in the mid-80s, while Elizabeth competed for the Terriers volleyball team during the same period. "It felt right, you know, just going there," the now Dallas Maverick reflected. Interestingly, there's a contradiction. The nine-time All-Star once said he had no type of affiliation with Boston before leaving Cleveland, yet his parents' ties tell a different story. Still, as Kyrie said several times during the stream, the excitement to join the Celtics was very real at first. Being part of such a competitive roster — and, more broadly, continuing his family's legacy in Massachusetts — genuinely fired him up to start this new chapter. That excitement didn't last long, though. Advertisement Just months into his first season, on March 24, Irving underwent a minimally invasive procedure to remove a tension wire from his left knee, sidelining him for three to six weeks. Less than two weeks later, the front office announced their star player would miss the entire postseason, with recovery expected to take four to five months. That injury marked the start of a rocky two-year stretch in Boston, filled with numerous misunderstandings and setbacks. Shedeur Sanders Posts Cryptic 3-Word Message About Browns Future

Shedeur Sanders Posts Cryptic 3-Word Message About Browns Future originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns' four-player quarterback competition between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders has been one of the most-talked about storyline of the NFL offseason. Advertisement Head coach Kevin Stefanski has maintained ever since the draft that all four players have an equal chance of winning the job, though many suspect it's Flacco's to lose given his experience as an NFL starter. 'Once you get into training camp, of course, you're getting ready to play games and ultimately getting ready for playing the season, but right now [deciding a starter is] not our focus,' Stefanski stated last month. The odds seem stacked against Sanders, who many expected to be a first-round draft pick back in April but fell to Round 5 in one of the biggest draft falls of all time. Flacco has a Super Bowl ring, Pickett is a former first-round pick with a 15-10 record as a starter in the NFL, and Gabriel was selected two rounds ahead of Sanders while he was still on the board. Advertisement And while the former Colorado quarterback and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year faces what many believe is an uphill battle to the QB1 spot, Sanders himself seemingly addressed his uncertain future with the Brown on his X account. 'Time will tell 🤫,' Sanders wrote, in what appears to be an acknowledgement to the fact that he's not a lock to make Cleveland's 53-man roster. The reports on where Sanders stands in the QB competition have varied. Some Browns beat reporters have claimed Sanders has stood out when he's gotten his reps, while others have claimed he's firmly in fourth place and a long shot to be on Cleveland's roster past training camp, which starts later this month. Advertisement However, if the Browns were to cut ties with Sanders, there will likely be a decent list of suitors for the 23-year-old passer. The Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, and the Buffalo Bills, among others, have been linked to Sanders in recent weeks. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.

Browns predicted to ditch Shedeur Sanders, Joe Flacco in trade for $180 million QB

The Cleveland Browns have a lot of quarterbacks. What if they decide they don't want to start any of them? That's the question proposed by Cory Woodroof of For The Win. He thinks the Browns could trade before training camp is over for a new QB entirely. Advertisement His proposal sends Kenny Pickett and Shelby Harris to the Falcons for Kirk Cousins and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Cousins would be the starter over the likes of Joe Flacco, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. "We have a feeling the Browns might find themselves in an awkward spot during training camp with their quarterback room," Woodroof writes. "Neither Joe Flacco nor Kenny Pickett inspires a ton of confidence as a 17-game starter, and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders feel destined to sit on the bench for a year. If Cleveland is serious about winning in 2025, swinging a trade for Cousins is the clearest path. Cousins isn't quite as potent as his best days in Minnesota, but he proved with Atlanta in 2024 that he can still be a solid starting quarterback when healthy. If the Browns come to the conclusion we think they will, Cousins and his former Minnesota offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski will reunite in the Dawg Pound to compete in the AFC North. Cleveland could send one of its veteran quarterbacks (Kenny Pickett?) back to the Falcons to back up Michael Penix Jr. Atlanta could also try and get a run-stuffing defensive tackle as part of the deal as opposed to a draft pick." MORE: How good was LeBron at football? NBA legend would have been 'one of the best' in NFL Advertisement There is certainly some logic here. But would the Browns really opt to go away from all four guys they already have in the building? Especially when they probably could've already gotten Cousins earlier in the offseason in a trade and didn't do it? This is obviously a competition to watch, but if a trade happened, that'd throw a whole new wrench into the equation. MORE NFL NEWS:
