Corn Closes Thursday with Gains as Export Business Gives Bulls a Boost
Corn futures held onto the Thursday gains into the close, after December held the $4 mark on Wednesday. Contracts closed with 4 to 6 cent gains. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was up 4 3/4 cents at $3.67 1/4. USDA reported two separate private export sales of 106,680 MT to Mexico and 105,000 MT to Guatemala, both for 2025/26 shipment. Export Sales data showed 170,428 MT in old crop corn sales, the second lowest for the MY, during the week of July 31. Mexico was the buyer of 208,400 MT, with Colombia buying 148,900 MT, as unknown saw reductions of 491,700 MT which were mostly switched to a destinations. New crop business blew past the expectations, at 3.16 MMT in total. That takes the total sales for 2025/26 to 11.777 MMT, the second highest for the current week on record behind 2021/22 (when China was an active buyer). Unknown was the buyer of 1.28 MMT, with Mexico in for 408,000 MT and South Korea buying 402,000 MT. Corn Pulls of Lows into Wednesday's Close
Corn bulls were battling back on the Wednesday session, as contracts closed out the session with just fractional to 1 ¾ cent losses in most nearbys. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was down 2 1/4 cents at $3.63 3/4. The weekly EIA data showed a total of 1.081 million barrels per day of ethanol was produced during the week ending on August 1, a drop of 15,000 bpd from the previous week. With the drop in output, stocks saw a draw of 960,000 barrels to 23.756 million barrels. Refiner inputs of ethanol were up 2,000 bpd to 922,000, with exports dropping a total of 38,000 bpd to 116,000. Export Sale estimates ahead of the Thursday morning release are calling for between 200,000 and 400,000 MT in old crop corn sales during the week of July 31. New crop business is estimated to total 1.3-2.5 MMT, as 1.1 MMT was already announced via daily releases last week. A South Korean importer purchased 68,000 MT of corn in their tender originally for 140,000 MT overnight. Brazil exported a total of 2.434 MMT of corn during July, which was a drop of 31.51% from last year's total but well above the June total. A slower second crop harvest and soybeans still taking up a large chunk of the vessel lineup were a factor. Futures posted losses of 4 to 5 ½ cents to round out the Tuesday trade, as pressure continues to weight on the market. The crop was also listed at 6% dented. Conditions were steady this week, at 73% gd/ex and 384 on the Brugler500 index. By state, MI saw the largest improvement, up 24 points, with IN up 4, MO 5 points higher, MN improving 2 points and NE 1 point better. KS saw a 11 point drop, with IA down 2, IL slipping 4 points, and OH back down 7. A South Korean importer tendered for 140,000 MT of corn overnight, with a Wednesday deadline. Corn Falls Back on Friday
Corn futures closed out the Friday session with contracts down 2 to 4 ¼ cents, as September was a dime lower on the week and December down 8 ¼ cents. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was down 3 1/2 cents at $3.73 1/2. A couple more private export sales were announced this morning, with 125,000 MT to unknown destinations, with another 227,160 MT for unknown (during the reporting period) both for 2025/26. That took this week's announced flash sales to 1.147 MMT for new crop.
