Carlos Alcaraz shows off football skills in French Open win over Fabian Marozsan

Carlos Alcaraz brought football and fun to the French Open as he kept his title defence on track against tricky Hungarian Fabian Marozsan. The Spaniard, bidding to become the first man to retain the Roland Garros crown since compatriot Rafael Nadal in 2020, beat world number 56 Marozsan 6-1 4-6 6-1 6-2. Alcaraz was being watched by Paris St Germain stars Nuno Mendes and Goncalo Ramos, just four days before their Champions League final against Inter Milan. Liverpool title winner Cody Gakpo was also in attendance so Alcaraz, always the entertainer, showed off his skills with some keep-ups and a neat volley to a ball kid. 'Sometimes it is difficult to have fun on the court when you're suffering out there. It depends on the opponent as well,' he said. 'Most of the time I'm not trying to think about anything else but enjoying playing and enjoying being on this court. 'I just want to show good tennis. I want to make sure people are happy watching my match as well. That's the way I enjoy playing tennis.' Alcaraz clinched a one-sided opening set in just 28 minutes after an exchange of delicate drop shots at the net. But there was a twist at the start of the second when Marozsan, who beat Alcaraz in Rome two years ago, secured an early break. Alacaraz was frustrated when he let three break points slip through his fingers as Marozsan levelled the match. But the 22-year-old meant business in the third, breaking twice and at one point sliding to whip a backhand volley around the net post on to the line. The fourth set went the same way as Alcaraz won his ninth French Open match in a row, booking his place in the third round in two hours and nine minutes. Two-time runner-up Casper Ruud was a surprise second-round casualty, although the Norwegian seventh seed was clearly not fully fit and could barely move at the end of a 6-2 4-6 1-6 0-6 defeat to Portugal's Nuno Borges. Italian eighth seed Lorenzo Musetti, who is playing as well as anyone on the clay this season, flexed his muscles with a 6-4 6-0 6-4 victory over Colombia's Daniel Elahi Galan. In the women's draw, last year's runner-up Jasmine Paolini, seeded four, made light work of Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in a 6-3 6-3 win. Teenage Canadian sensation Victoria Mboko dispatched Germany's Eva Lys 6-4 6-4 to set up a third-round meeting with eighth seed Qinwen Zheng, the last woman to win a title at Roland Garros having claimed Olympic singles gold last summer.

Bayern Munich consider summer move for Cody Gakpo

Bayern Munich are considering a summer move for Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg. The Bundesliga club is actively pursuing a new left winger to strengthen that area of their attack ahead of the new season. They have added Gakpo to their shortlist after recently being linked with Kaoru Mitoma and Rafael Leao. Bayern are keen to bring in more attacking quality and see Gakpo as someone who can deliver immediately. The Dutch forward has enjoyed a strong season under manager Arne Slot, helping Liverpool win the 2024–25 Premier League title. Gakpo has bagged 18 goals and seven assists in all competitions, highlighting his importance to the team. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl is reportedly a fan of Gakpo and has already contacted the player regarding a potential deal. The 26-year-old is currently under contract at Liverpool until 2028, but there he could leave if the right offer comes in. Gakpo's versatility is a major reason behind Bayern's growing interest. He can play as a left winger and as a central striker. His ability to cut inside from the left, combined with his speed and dribbling, makes him a dangerous attacking threat. Bayern want someone who can add quality and goals from wide areas, and Gakpo fits that profile perfectly. The club plans to make several changes to their squad this summer, prioritising the addition of attacking strength. Gakpo has proven he can perform in a high-pressure team and could bring that experience to the Bundesliga. Bayern's interest is clear as the summer transfer window approaches, but they are yet to make an offer.

Liverpool winger joins the list of potential Bayern transfer targets

Cody Gakpo is on Bayern Munich's list of possible options for the left wing position, Sky Germany believes. The Bavarian club has already contact with the Dutchman, who could leave Liverpool this summer. A price tag of €50-60million is supposedly the asking price put toward by the new Premier League champions. Bavaria would be one of three potential destinations for Gakpo should he leave Liverpool in summer. Vincent Kompany's side have already been linked with names like AC Milan's Rafael Leão and Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton in recent weeks.

Liverpool stars keep the party going until midnight as their Premier League title celebrations continue with Trent Alexander-Arnold signing out in style ahead of Real Madrid move

Liverpool players and staff hit the town to celebrate their Premier League title win after they finally lifted the trophy on Sunday. Arne Slot 's side won their second Premier League title weeks ago when they beat Tottenham at Anfield on April 27, but had to wait until the final day of the season to lift the trophy. And they did just that at the weekend, with captain Virgil van Dijk carrying out the lift - before departing defender and vice captain Trent Alexander-Arnold got his hands on it. The celebrations inside Anfield went on for around an hour, with the squad dancing on the pitch with their families before engaging in a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone with the home fans. But the party didn't stop there - after leaving the ground, they took to the streets and another venue to celebrate their success. Footage and photos showed the likes of Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Slot pictured at the City Centre Hotel and Muncipal Hotel as they partied until midnight. Alexander-Arnold, who is set to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer in a matter of weeks, was in attendance, arriving in a Liverpool tracksuit with his hood up and dark glasses on, medal still around his neck. His partner, Estelle Behnke, was also seen arriving alongside his brother, though the couple were not pictured together. Slot was greeted by Liverpool fans as he walked down the street alongside wife Mirjam and son Joep, who have remained in the Netherlands during his first year at Anfield. Elsewhere, the likes of Diogo Jota were mobbed by fans, while Salah sat in the back of a car, still in his champions shirt. Club legend Ian Rush was also in attendance. Daniel Sturridge left Sky Sports duties to join the party too, donned out in a black suit. The former Reds forward was part of the squad that won the Champions League in 2019 but seemingly wanted to join in the league title celebration too. He was spotted deep in conversation with one woman, before seemingly leaning forward to embrace with her in a hug. It was Curtis Jones, however, who was seemingly the life of the party. The Liverpool-born midfielder was spotted on his phone in a red hoodie, showing his medal to the onlookers. In a video shared to TikTok, meanwhile, he was seen to have taken to the microphone, with his cap to the side and entertaining the crowd. Diog Jota was mobbed by fans as he arrived for the party on Sunday evening Another video saw Cody Gakpo dancing inside the Municipal Hotel on Dale Street in Liverpool - the forward still wearing his shades. Elsewhere, Kostas Tsimikas sat on a car outside also in his shades, while Jarell Quansah left in the front seat of a car, showing off his medal, and Alisson also pulled up. The focus of the night, however, was on Alexander-Arnold. The England defender failed to hold it together during the celebrations, first breaking down during the rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone. He then sat along on the pitch, before crying more as he embraced his family. It was a far cry from the boos he received when he was substituted on against Arsenal, and Slot thanked the fans for sticking together. Slot said: 'It went brilliant when our fans are together. I don't think you see many celebrations like we had them today. It's no surprise to me that the fans were brilliant again today as they were throughout the whole season, as they were towards Trent. 'He deserved it. I am very happy for him and everyone in and around the club that things worked out the way they did. 'Everybody could see how difficult he had it after the game. That tells you how hard it is to leave a club like this. That's all we can try to do, to make it so hard for the players to leave. 'Many of them stay. Trent made a decision to go, unfortunately for us. But it was great for him to have a farewell as he had today.' Former Liverpool fan Daniel Sturridge was seen speaking to one woman before seemingly leaning in for a hug Alexander-Arnold himself said: 'I've played hundreds of games for the club but I've never felt so loved and cared for than today. 'Hand on my heart I hope one day the fans will be able to recognise the hard work and everything I have done for the team. 'There wasn't a day, minute, second that I didn't think about the team. Twenty years is a very long time time but I've loved every single minute of it. The ups and the downs. 'It's been an honour and privilege to be part of.
