Jaguars start Travis Hunter at WR, CB reps coming soon
On the first day of training camp, the answer to questions regarding whether Travis Hunter would play offense or defense for the Jacksonville Jaguars was unchanged. Both. Hunter was an early arrival on the practice field in a bright teal No. 12 jersey, the color signifying he'd play with the offense on Wednesday. Hunter and wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett drilled hand usage and line-of-scrimmage release technique before team sessions started. "Within the first six practices or so, he will (play defense)," Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said. "You want to give him a couple days offense, a couple days defense and then give him the opportunity to go flip-flop within the same practice. Then that'll kind of become the norm. That will become the norm of how we operate." Hunter and 2024 first-round pick Brian Thomas Jr. rotated through reps on short comeback routes and in-cutting patterns in the opening portion of group position work. He briefly aligned with defensive backs during a special teams walkthrough without live reps. The offensive-minded Coen said last month defensive coaches already were trying to get more time with Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner at Colorado, where he starred at wide receiver and cornerback. His two-way capability inspired Coen and general manager James Gladstone to move up in the draft to select Hunter second overall. "(Defensive backs coach Ron Milus) Milo came up to me after practice and said, 'Can we have him more?'" Coen told reporters in June. "And so that's a good thing. Just the movement skills. You can definitely see how natural it is for him. When you see him in the actual 7-on and team setting, he doesn't look out of place by any means." --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Jaguars Liam Coen on why strength coach Eric Ciano was a must-hire
Jaguars' HC Liam Coen highlighted on the latest episode of 'The Hunt' why hiring strength coach Eric Ciano was a move he had to make. On the latest episode of 'The Hunt,' Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen outlined why hiring Eric Ciano as the Director of Strength and Conditioning was a must-make move earlier this offseason. "Right when we ended up making a change and Eric ended up transitioning out of Buffalo," Coen recalled, "I was inundated with a ton of calls and texts from a lot of people that I respect within this profession. And then you get to know him, get him on the interview, and it was exactly what we needed." Cedric Scott had been the Jaguars' Director of Strength and Conditioning since the 2022 season and had been in the Jaguars' organization since 2012. Coen made the decision in February, however, to go in a different direction. Ciano, meanwhile, was let go by the Bills earlier this offseason as well. There, he was the team's long-time strength and conditioning coach. The 2025 season will be Ciano's 16th in the NFL. "You look at his track record," Coen added, "going back all the years in Buffalo in how consistent they were, in terms of being healthy at the tops of the NFL. The ability in Buffalo to be physical, strong, tough, the toughness was the aspect that I really wanted to provide to the players and we felt it pretty immediately." Defensive end Josh Hines-Allen said that Ciano has a "very calm demeanor," but he's "very intense with the workouts." Darnell Savage added that Ciano is a "fiery guy, locked in, and just a guy you'd like to go to work with."

Cape York man committed to stand trial for murder of Indigenous woman 12 years ago
A former Queensland quarry worker has been committed to stand trial for the alleged murder of an Indigenous woman more than a decade ago. Warning: This article contains details said in court of threats and violence that some readers may find distressing. A 23-year-old Kowanyama woman, known for cultural reasons as Ms Bernard, was last seen at a pub in the Cape York town of Coen on February 10, 2013. Ms Bernard allegedly left the bar with Thomas Maxwell Byrnes, 63, with the intention of going to a quarry where he worked at Archer River, 68 kilometres north of Coen. Ms Bernard's family reported her missing a few days later, which prompted a search of surrounding bushland, home to several disused mine shafts, but her body has never been found. Mr Byrnes was charged with Ms Bernard's murder in January last year and has remained in custody since. He has faced several committal hearings in the Cairns Magistrates Court since May, where several witnesses have been cross-examined. In one instance, the former manager of the Exchange Hotel in Coen, Dean Lloyd, said Mr Byrnes was a regular patron at the bar. Mr Lloyd told the court he recalled having a conversation with Mr Byrnes and another customer where they discussed the disappearance of Ms Bernard. He said it appeared to him that Mr Byrnes was intoxicated. "He then said, 'I took [Ms Bernard] from the pub and we were meant to go home,' something along those lines, and 'You know what happened next,'" he said. Mr Lloyd said he "froze" and responded by saying that he did not know what happened next. He said Mr Byrnes took a while to respond. "He looked at me and [the other patron] and said, 'Youse f**king say anything, youse'll be put beside her and never found." A regular visitor to the Coen Exchange Hotel, Jacqueline May Greenhalgh, told another hearing that she spoke with other regulars like Mr Byrnes. She said words in a conversation with a group of people following Ms Bernard's disappearance were "etched" in her mind. Ms Greenhalgh said Mr Byrnes made unexpected comments that Ms Bernard's body would not be found by authorities. In a hearing on Tuesday, Coen resident Neville Shepherd told the court he had a conversation with Mr Byrnes in 2017 or 2018 when he said Ms Bernard had bitten him on the penis. In the same conversation, Mr Shepherd said Mr Byrnes also said he'd "roughed her up". Mr Byrnes's lawyer, James Sheridan, questioned Mr Shepherd's recollection of the conversation, noting Mr Shepherd had a hearing impairment. Mr Sheridan asked Mr Shepherd if Mr Byrnes might have said, "She was a bit rough." Mr Shepherd said that was possible. He said Mr Byrnes also told him that Ms Bernard "took off" and he did not ask him what that meant. Magistrate Scott Luxton committed Mr Byrnes to stand trial in the Cairns Supreme Court at a date to be set. Mr Byrnes did not enter a plea and remains in custody.

'Need to really turn it on': Trevor Lawrence eyes breakout year under Jaguars' new coach Liam Coen
Trevor Lawrence enters a crucial year under new head coach Liam Coen (Image via Getty) The Jacksonville Jaguars are pressing the reset button — and quarterback Trevor Lawrence is under the brightest spotlight of his young career. With former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen now at the helm, the team is signaling a full-scale shift in offensive identity. After an underwhelming 2024 campaign, Jacksonville's front office is banking on Coen's quarterback-friendly system to elevate Lawrence into the elite tier. The stakes are sky-high in Duval as Lawrence enters what could be a make-or-break fourth season. New coach, new system for Jaguars Liam Coen was hired as the Jaguars' head coach in January after orchestrating a resurgence for Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay. Coen's offensive scheme helped Mayfield post a career-high 28 touchdowns in 2024, and Jacksonville hopes for a similar turnaround with their franchise quarterback. Lawrence, who has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled with consistency, acknowledged the urgency heading into 2025. 'I feel like this is like getting into my prime,' he said. 'I got a lot of good years left ahead of me, and I need to really turn it on.' The Jaguars have also brought in several offensive reinforcements in free agency, including veteran wideout Tyler Boyd and left guard Dalton Risner, to protect and support their star QB. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Đây có thể là thời điểm tốt nhất để giao dịch vàng trong 5 năm qua IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Trevor Lawrence ready to elevate game Since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2021, Lawrence has carried high expectations — but his development has been uneven. He threw for 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season, with Jacksonville missing the playoffs after a late-season collapse. Now, with a revamped coaching staff and a cleaner offensive blueprint, the 25-year-old knows he must deliver. 'I really feel good about the situation we're in,' he shared on the Pardon My Take podcast. The pressure to win has intensified, especially with rival AFC South teams like the Texans and Colts surging behind young quarterbacks. 'I love Coach Coen and the whole staff,' Lawrence added. 'Just good dudes, good players, too.' Jacksonville resets offense for playoff push The Jaguars are clearly all-in on offensive change, hoping Coen's structure can replicate the chemistry he had with Mayfield. Coen, who previously worked with Sean McVay and helped Kentucky's Will Levis develop into a top NFL prospect, is known for his timing-based passing game and quarterback development. Jacksonville also made notable upgrades in the backfield and offensive line, signaling a commitment to protecting Lawrence and giving him play-action flexibility. Trevor Lawrence: It's time to win, not be the team no one really takes seriously
Entering his fifth year in the league, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has experienced a taste of the postseason. But now, as the club goes into a new era with James Gladstone as General Manager and Liam Coen as head coach, Lawrence wants the franchise to be more consistently competitive. In an interview with Pardon My Take released this week, Lawrence noted that even as he tries to treat all seasons the same, he knows realistically this one is not. '[W]here I'm at in my career, I'm going into Year 5. Been an up-and-down, so far, four years for me,' Lawrence said. 'And just our team and our situation, this is the third head coach I've had. A lot of turnover, a lot of change. But I really feel good about the situation we're in. I love coach Coen, and the whole staff, and everyone that's in — all the guys that were brought in in free agency. Just good dudes, good players, too.' Lawrence added that the system Coen's implementing is 'tried and true,' and has proven to be good for quarterbacks. That's ideal for what Lawrence would like to help his team do next. 'Where I'm at in my career, Year 5, it's time to go and start winning consistently and be not just that team where it's like, you know — you're always like, no one really takes you seriously,' Lawrence said. 'You want to be that team that's always competing for the playoffs, Super Bowls, and you're in the hunt. 'So, of course, I see it through that lens — it's Year 5 and I feel like this is getting into my prime. I've got a lot of good years ahead of me, and I need to turn it on. And I think what we've built around me, what they've done this offseason has been a great start.' Lawrence, who played only 10 games last season, noted that he's fully healthy and ready to go for training camp. He completed 60.6 percent of his passes for 2,045 yards with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024.
