From Coleen Nolan's ‘miserable' skinny stage to why Nadia Sawalha's WON'T calorie count – Loose Women diet secrets
Plus, what Brenda Edwards has said about weight loss jab rumours FEELING LOOSE From Coleen Nolan's 'miserable' skinny stage to why Nadia Sawalha's WON'T calorie count – Loose Women diet secrets THE Loose Women ladies are the stars of daytime TV and are known for their candid conversations. But many of the iconic panellists have also opened up about their weight loss journeys and relationship with food. 15 The Loose Women stars for their body confidence campaign in 2017 Credit: Rex Features 15 Nadia Sawalha credits intuitive eating with her svelte figure Credit: Instagram 15 She has yo-yo'd with her weight over the years but found what works for her Credit: Instagram While many of them champion embracing your body and female empowerment, some have been honest about their diets and how they stay trim. Nadia Sawalha After years of yo-yo dieting Nadia Sawalha, 60, has ditched restrictive eating and learned to feel confident in her own skin – partly thanks to her Loose Women co-stars. The size-14 presenter now regularly strips off on social media to promote body positivity and favours 'intuitive eating' — an approach to food that rejects diets, meal plans and willpower. Nadia, who was a founding Loose Women member in 1999, says: 'You don't restrict any foods and go with what you really want, so one day it might all be bone broth soups, veggie juices and brown rice but the next it could be burger and chips. 'There are literally no banned foods, so there's no bingeing. I only eat when I'm hungry and stop when I've had enough.' She's previously opened up about doing the 16/8 intermittent programme, and said: 'Intermittent fasting is not a diet. 'It's a way of eating for life that works brilliantly for me. 'It's about more energy, mental clarity, freedom from the diet culture, oh yeah, and weight loss. And it doesn't cost anyone a penny!" She also had CBT [cognitive behavioural therapy] to break the pattern of negative thinking towards her body. However, Nadia credits a 2017 underwear shoot with her Loose Women co-stars Stacey Solomon, Jane Moore, and Coleen Nolan, for helping her to finally accept herself. She shared: 'When people ask me what the secret is, it's every single day telling the voices to, 'shut the f*** up'.' Jane McDonald 15 Jane McDonald gave up one type of bread to lose two stone Credit: Instagram A few years ago, Jane wowed fans with her incredible weight loss - and revealed the secret to her success is eating one type of bread. The TV star, 62, lost a whopping four stone transforming her body from a UK size 12-14 to eight. Jane signed up to ITV's Sugar Free Farm in 2017 – where she ended up shedding weight. While on the show she discovered a different kind of bread that would aid weight loss because it doesn't have any yeast in it. 15 After starring in ITV's Sugar Free Farm in 2017, she was told to cut out bread with yeast Credit: Handout On the TV show she met nutritionist Angelique Panagos, who gave her a bread recipe that changed the way she ate forever. Jane told the Daily Star: "The only bread I eat is one that I've got a recipe for from Angelique. "It's got no yeast in it and it's made with lots of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, wholemeal flour, oats and yogurt of all things. "It's literally 20 minutes and it's made – ready to put in the oven.' She also cut out 'white carbs', including crisps, white bread, pasta and flour. She starts her day with a green smoothie, and told the Daily Record: "I blend up a mixture of raw greens, flax seeds, chia seeds, spinach, kale, mint and a banana. It really is lovely." She previously shared how she did a juice diet to lose three stone in three months for her wedding. Speaking on the show, she said: 'I've done every single diet on the planet, one of which was just pure liquid diet. Did it work? Absolutely. Three stone, three months - that's what it said it would do and that's what it did. 'At the time I had a goal and it was for my wedding and I thought I'm never going to get this weight off.' After battling to keep her weight under control for years, Coleen cashed in on the celebrity fitness DVD craze, releasing four of her own between 2007 and 2009. 15 She claimed to have lost four stone and shared her weight loss DVD Credit: Amazon With a gruelling diet and workout regime, she had shed 4st and dropped from a size 18 to a 10 - but it was an unhappy time for her. 'I looked amazing, actually,' she says. 'I would say that's probably the best I've ever looked. 'Funnily enough, I got offered a lot more primetime jobs.' But the 5ft 7in star says the constant exercise and dieting made her miserable. She revealed: 'As a person, I was probably the unhappiest I've felt. I lost me somewhere,' says the mum-of-three. 'I lost my personality and didn't know who to be any more.' 15 She now follows a vegan lifestyle Credit: Rebecca Lupton The presenter's weight has fluctuated over the years, and admitted in 2021 she was told she needed a gastric band and to lose weight if she wanted a successful career on the box. Coleen said: "I have had a head of a big TV company saying: 'if you want to get in prime.' Now she has switched to a vegan lifestyle which has helped her lose two stone gradually. She lost over two stone with LighterLife and kept it off for more than 10 years - although admitted giving up alcohol made it worse. The LighterLife programme includes shakes, snacks, and carefully-measured daily meals, along with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which educate clients about emotional triggers for overeating. She admitted: "When I gave up drinking 10 yrs ago I gained a sweet tooth and very quickly one addiction was in danger of being replaced by another. "I'd put on two stone and was aware that my knees were aching and my breathing was impaired. "With the help of @lighterlife and working with a mentor, I changed my relationship with food. I lost two stone in two months and use those tools to this day." Linda Robson 15 Linda Robson showed off her bikini body Credit: Instagram 15 Linda overhauled her health in 2017, after having a health scare Credit: The Sun Linda Robson changed her diet and lifestyle habits following a health scare in 2018 and lost two stone. Linda disclosed to a fan at the time that she had cut out on sugar, along with limiting her carbohydrate intake and alcohol. She had vowed to change her diet in January 2017 after she was warned by doctors that her drinking habits - which at the time was almost a bottle of wine a night - could put her at risk of diabetes. She dropped three dress sizes in a year with her healthy overhaul, and said: "I've stopped weighing myself but I think I've lost about two and a half stone. I've gone from a 16 to 18 dress size down to a 12 to 14." Brenda said: 'Every time I seem to come off the show recently, I do get lovely viewers saying to me you've lost a lot of weight, are you on a well-known jab. 'I'm just working, very busy, just relooking at how I treat my body, and swimming!'

ITV speaks out over concerns Loose Women panel to be slashed amid daytime cuts
Reaction to the news Loose Women will air only 30 weeks of the year from January irked Jane Moore, who said she was "immensely disappointed" to see pundits' "lazy misogyny" ITV has insisted it is not planning "radical changes" to the Loose Women line-up after it emerged some panelists were "in a state of panic and up in arms" amid the cuts bombshell. The popular daytime programme will air for just 30 weeks each year from January, one of several changes ITV is making to "reinvest across the programme budget in other genres." It reportedly left some Loose Women stars worried for their future, particularly Coleen Nolan, who a source had said was "shocked and blindsided" at the decision. Her colleague Jane Moore was also furious, albeit more so at the "snooty reaction" by commentators in the media. The journalist said she felt the programme has received unfair criticism, and reminded pundits the panel regularly hold key political figures, such as Nigel Farage, held to account. ITV has also stressed Loose Women plays an important part in its daytime schedule, and told the Mirror today that wholesale changes to the panel are unlikely. The ITV source said: "We are not planning any radical changes to the panel. All of our Loose Women are hugely valued and we celebrate each and every one and the experience and opinions they bring to the show every day. "Many of our long standing panellists have appeared on the show for the majority of its 25 year run on screens and those stalwart, Loose legends are at the core of the show's success and hugely popular with the audience. The show remains a big priority within our daytime slate, having secured a BAFTA nomination, launched a podcast and celebrated a milestone anniversary in the last year alone." It is thought this stance has been shared with the stars themselves, some of whom "reached out to the production team in a panic" following the announcement of the shake-up last week. Ruth Langsford and Kaye Adams were among those particularly concerned, the Mirror reported in the wake of the bombshell. Coleen, whose sister Linda died in January, "has always really relied on Loose Women... her main income," a source had told us. They added: "She was one of the first Loose Women and she's always thought it would go on forever. The Loose Women ladies are all gutted. They love the show and are really dedicated to it." The programme, which first aired in 2000, won a Royal Television Society award earlier this year for its Facing It Together campaign against domestic violence. However, writing for The Sun this week, Jane said: "One male commentator for a broadsheet casually dismissed Loose Women — on air for 25 years — as a 'gabfest'... The snooty reaction from some quarters was immensely disappointing." The journalist, in her second stint on Loose Women, reminded critics Janet Street Porter confronted then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the show, asking him: "Why do you hate pensioners?" The iconic moment in May 2024 led to his fall from power, as Labour thrashed the Conservatives in a landslide election just weeks later.

Loose Women panellist hints at co-star rivalry over possible new BBC role
Two mainstays of the Loose Women panel could go head-to-head on iconic reality show Strictly Come Dancing as one of the stars joked that she's been "practising my splits" Loose Women's Brenda Edwards has revealed that she and fellow panellist Coleen Nolan are both eager to strut their stuff on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. The 56-year-old, who is currently dazzling audiences in the West End production of Chicago alongside former Strictly pro Janette Manrara, confessed she's been doing all she can to land a spot on the dance competition. "I've asked her to put in a good word for me," Brenda divulged about her conversations with Janette, who now hosts the show's spin-off. She added: "Don't worry, I'm pushing all avenues. If I get on Strictly, I'll have to start practising my splits. I want to do it! "It's between Coleen Nolan and me, because she really wants to go on it also." In an interview with Bella Magazine, Brenda expressed her ambition to reach the final, something her Loose Women colleagues haven't achieved yet. Coleen, 60, has also shared her aspirations to hit the dance floor and vie for the coveted Glitterball trophy, reports Belfast Live. On Loose Women, she campaigned: "Vote me to go in! "There'd be a lot of sequins involved, let me tell you." She has also told The Mirror: "I've never done Strictly which devastates me. "Since that show started, I've always wanted to do Strictly and so many Loose Women have done it but they never, ever ask me." Among the Loose Women stars who have taken the plunge on Strictly's dance floor are Ruth Langsford, Judi Love, and Kaye Adams. Kaye, 62, was the first celebrity to be voted off the show in 2022, after partnering with Kai Widdrington. In 2017, Ruth, 65, secured ninth place after her stint with Anton Du Beke, while Judi, 44, was the fifth star to be eliminated in 2021, alongside her partner Graziano Di Prima. The line-up of celebrities for the forthcoming series remains under wraps, but rumoured participants include Tom Parker Bowles, son of Queen Camilla, telly favourite Stacey Solomon, former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, and ex-Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo. What the BBC has confirmed is the roster of professional dancers. Reigning champion Dianne Buswell will returning to the dance floor are, as will Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Katya Jones, Neil Jones and Nikita Kuzmin. Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Karen Hauer, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola will also feature once more. Earlier this year, the BBC also revealed that two new professional dancers will be introduced closer to the show's return. The 2025 series is expected to kick off in September, though an official date is still to be confirmed.

Coleen Nolan 'reeling' at Loose Women cull as stars 'fight for their jobs'
One of Loose Women's most beloved presenters, Coleen Nolan, is said to be 'blindsided' by the revelation of huge changes to the show which she has been a part of for 25 years Amid reported slumps in viewing figures, it was revealed last week that ITV is set to cut jobs and slash budgets of Britain's biggest daytime shows – including Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning. And, according to one PR expert, as OK! reports, the shock move could signal 'the end of daytime TV'. The unexpected cuts at ITV Studios, which produces all four shows, mean that over 220 of 440 staff involved will lose their jobs. Morning chat show Lorraine, fronted by Lorraine Kelly, will see the most drastic changes – as it's to be reduced from an hour-long show to just 30 minutes and will go on-air for 30 weeks a year, rather than 52. But Loose Women, featuring some of our favourite daytime presenters, will also take quite the hit. Remaining at the same running time it will, however, only be shown for 30 weeks a year when the changes come in next January. One of the show's standout stars, who has been a part of the famous panel since its inception, is Coleen Nolan – and according to a source, the 60-year-old, who split from her boyfriend of three years, Michael Jones last year, is reeling from the news. A source claims!, ' Coleen is particularly upset about the whole thing and feels shocked and blindsided. She's lost her sister recently and it's been a very tough year – so this is even more devastating news. 'She's worried about her work going forward as someone who has always really relied on Loose Women, it's her main income so it's a big blow. She was one of the first Loose Women and she's always thought it would go on forever. The Loose Women ladies are all gutted. They love the show and are really dedicated to it.' Blackpool-born Coleen has been on the Loose Women panel since the show started 25 years ago – and has been making audiences laugh and cry ever since, with frank discussions on relationship woes and cheeky sex revelations. But she's also brought fans with her as she opened up about everything from her divorces to parenting struggles, and losing sister Bernie in 2013 aged just 52, then in January this year, big sister Linda at 65, following their battles with cancer. The mum-of-three revealed last year, 'I'll be with Loose Women as long as they want me, or as long as it is on air, because I love it and I'd really miss it. It's been the constant in my life for 24 years – why would I want to give that up?'. PR expert Lynn Carratt says, 'What's happening is brutal – it could spell the beginning of the end for daytime TV as we know it. And we could see more on-screen talent resign because of this.' She adds, 'Obviously, it's devastating for the staff losing their jobs – but what does it mean for the presenters? Each of the LW presenters will, naturally, be competing now for more airtime.' Lynn also believes there could well be a change in which panellists we see more or less of, come next year. 'Will it mean we see less of our favourites, such as Coleen, on the screen? Will TV bosses go for the newer, younger panellists more to attract a younger audience – such as GK Barry, Frankie Bridge, Olivia Attwood – a trend towards revamping the show? Ultimately the daytime presenters will not be happy with these changes. And they'll be sad for the behind-the-scenes production staff who are leaving." 'Loose Women has been running for many years and these shows do eventually need a new lease of life. Audiences get bored. But no doubt, these changes will cause tension between the women, over who gets picked to join the panel.' Last year there was already talk that ITV was tightening its belt and flagship daytime shows were reportedly in 'crisis talks'. Denise Welch recently told the Mirror before the latest changes were announced, 'When Loose Women first started, it was never a staple of the daytime schedules like it is now. It was on for three months, off for three months. Then another programme came along and notched it down to half an hour, which the racing still does – but we've got our place.' The Waterloo Road actress added, 'There's life in these old girls yet. Older women's voices are so important, and I'm very proud to be a part of a show that continues to celebrate that.' A spokesperson for ITV said of the latest move that it was not related to the performance of any of its shows, but about centralising its national news-gathering production in one place and investing resources into high-profile shows such as Mr Bates vs The Post Office and big sporting events like the football World Cup.

Most shocking Loose Women moments of all time as show in turmoil – from rapist sympathy and ISIS shock to flashing
IT HAS been on air since 1999 and weathered its fair share of storms. But Loose Women has been further thrown into turmoil after ITV's Daytime division announced brutal cost-cutting measures. 11 To make matters worse, the 26-strong line-up had been left in the dark about the cuts to their lunchtime talk show, which will take effect from January. None of hosts - including big-hitters Coleen Nolan, Christine Lampard and Gloria Hunniford - had been warned it will be shrunk to screen 'seasonally' for 30 weeks of the year. The old guard, some of whom have been on board since day one, are said to now fear they will be left scrambling for shifts. That's while the PR-friendly younger panellists like Love Islander turned documentary-maker Olivia Attwood, influencer Grace 'GK' Barry and Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge are allegedly set to clean up. A source at ITV HQ said: 'The tension is unbearable. There's a lot of rage towards This Morning, which everyone feels is constantly favoured despite it being the lame duck of the daytime flock. 'The infighting is a feverish time-bomb which executives are desperate to defuse. ITV Daytime could combust from the inside out at this rate.' But like we all know, it's not the first time that there's been unbearable tension among the Loose ladies, particularly on-screen. ' Rapist sympathising ' Telly presenter Judy Finnigan, 77, joined Loose Women in 2014 and was thrown into the deep end on her first day by a discussion about Welsh footballer Ched Evans launching an appeal against his conviction for rape, which he was eventually found not guilty on appeal in 2016. The Richard and Judy star left viewers shocked when she said: "The rape was not violent, he didn't cause any bodily harm to the person." 11 Following public outrage, she apologised in statement saying: "I absolutely wasn't suggesting that rape was anything other than an horrendous crime and, as I said on the programme, I was in no way attempting to minimise the terrible ordeal that any woman suffers as a result. "The point I was attempting to raise as part of the debate was what should happen to someone after they have committed a crime and served their time?" The C-bomb The most offensive language must not be broadcast on television before the 9pm watershed. But 47-year-old Katie Price 's eldest child, Harvey, broke that rule in 2016 when he joined the panel to discuss being told on social media. 11 Asked what he would say to someone who made negative comments about him, Harvey, then 13, replied "Hello you c***." His mum quickly reacted with a shocked, 'erm, Harvey!', while presenter Andrea McLean apologised to viewers for his bad language. Gay rights row In 2015, Coleen Nolan causes uproar when she weighed in a Christian bakery that made headlines for controversially refusing to decorate a cake with a message supporting same-sex marriage. The 60-year-old defended the owners, saying: 'If you went in somewhere and they said two days later 'we don't want to make your cake because of our beliefs', you'd just never go back to that shop and tell all your friends to boycott it. "What if somebody walked in and said 'I want a cake with Islamic State on it and how I support it and how I support them killing our people' - and because it's a business would they have to make that?" Fuming viewers called for the panellist to be sacked and demanded she make a public apology, but neither of those calls were actioned. Potty-mouth rant The late Joan Rivers was famed for blunt, and often controversial, comedic persona - which is exactly what she brought to the Loose Women panel in 2008. The potty-mouth comedian launched into a rant when she was asked about meeting Hollywood stars on the red carpet. 11 She said: "You get someone like Russell Crowe, and you want to say to the camera 'He is a piece - get ready to bleep this - of f***ing s***!'" Joan's fellow panellists had to apologise on her behalf, with Jane McDonald adding: 'We haven't got a bleeper. We're live!" Fat shaming Loose Women viewers were left furious today as Janet Street-Porter 'fat shamed' Wayne Rooney in 2022. The presenter, 78, was discussing the footballer's recent court appearance as part of the ongoing Wagatha Christie trial - and said he was about to 'explode' out of his suit. 11 Janet commented: "Have you ever seen Wayne Rooney looking so smart? Wayne has been ordered by his wife to shape up, fit into that suit and my goodness it looks like he is about to explode out of it any minute." Those watching at home were unimpressed by her comments and took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam her as 'vile', with one penning: "Imagine if she was saying that about a woman?' Rampant rabbit Coleen Nolan stunned audiences in 2016 when she revealed she fell asleep while using a sex toy that her friend had bought her. The 60-year-old made the startling confession while discussing 'bedroom boosters', and said she'd had too much to drink when she nodded off while attempting to have a go with a Rampant Rabbit. She said: 'Me and Ray had a bit of a row and I thought 'well I don't need you, because I have my friend'. I went into the spare room and got friendly. 'But what happened was - and I am not joking at all - I fell asleep because I had a couple of glasses of wine and I am not good with drink, so I fell asleep it was the annoying buzzing that woke me up.' Bum flash Katie Price left jaws on the floor as viewers tuned in to watch Loose Women in 2016 and saw the mum-of-five flashing her backside during a holiday wear segment. She sported a revealing green and black polka dot number with a high leg split. As the former glamour model, 47, paraded around, she showed off a little bit more flesh than was probably advisable for the ITV show's daytime telly slot. Viewers were less than impressed with some dubbing it 'awkward viewing'. That being said, others took to social media to gush over her 'amazing' figure. Kim Woodburn storming off Kim Woodburn stormed off the Loose Women set in 2018 after being reduced to tears by 'lying trash' Coleen Nolan, whom she'd clashed with in the Celebrity Big Brother house 18 months prior. Walking off the show, the 83-year-old shouted: 'I wouldn't want to sit and talk with lying trash. She's a horrible person. You are trash, you're a piece of filth!" 11 It was sparked by Coleen whispering under her breath that Kim was 'going to cry in a minute'. The bust-up saw 3,297 furious viewers ringing up Ofcom to complain, with Kim later telling The Sun that she felt as though she had been ambushed. Coleen and the Loose Women team said they had 'genuinely hoped for a reconciliation'. Nose job 'bullying' Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby vowed never to appear on Loose Women again after she claimed she was 'bullied' over her nose job. The 35-year-old appeared on the lunchtime panel show in May 2016 and was left squirming in her seat as she was questioned over her cosmetic surgery. 11 During the appearance – which was branded awkward by some viewers – Charlotte was forced to defend herself against the panel, in particular feisty Janet Street-Porter, 78. The conversation quickly turned sour when Janet wanted to know if the reality TV star thought she was setting the right example for her young fans. The presenter asked her: 'What message does that send to teenage girls who watch your show, follow you on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, who might think, 'My nose has a lump in it but I haven't got four grand to spend'?' Speaking about the experience, she told new! Magazine in an angry rant: 'I've been on Loose Women and it was a horrible experience. I cried before and afterwards, that's why I wouldn't go back on. It was awful. I was bullied. I'm never going on again in my life. I hated it.'
