Several states vow to take six 'concrete' steps against Israel at Bogota summit
A coalition of states from around the world gathering in Bogota on Wednesday agreed to implement six measures to stop Israel's onslaught on Gaza and prevent violations of international law. The announcement came as part of an "emergency summit" in the Colombian capital, co-hosted by the governments of Colombia and South Africa as co-chairs of The Hague Group, to coordinate diplomatic and legal action to counter what they describe as "a climate of impunity" enabled by Israel and its powerful allies. The Hague Group is currently a bloc of eight states, launched on 31 January in the eponymous Dutch city, with the stated goal of holding Israel accountable under international law. The conference brought together more than 30 states, including Algeria; Bolivia; Botswana; Brazil; Chile; China; Cuba; Djibouti; Honduras; Indonesia; Iraq; Ireland; Lebanon; Libya; Malaysia; Mexico; Namibia; Nicaragua; Norway; Oman; Pakistan; Palestine; Portugal; Spain; Qatar; Turkey; Slovenia; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; Uruguay; and Venezuela. "We came to Bogota to make history - and we did," said Colombian President Gustavo Petro. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters "Together, we have begun the work of ending the era of impunity. These measures show that we will no longer allow international law to be treated as optional, or Palestinian life as disposable." "In the deliberations at the Bogota conference, all 30 participating states unanimously agreed that the era of impunity must end - and that international law must be enforced without fear or favour through immediate domestic policies and legislation - along with a unified call for an immediate ceasefire," the Hague Group said in a statement. To kickstart that process, the group said that 12 states from across the world - Bolivia; Colombia; Cuba; Indonesia; Iraq; Libya; Malaysia; Namibia; Nicaragua; Oman; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and South Africa - have committed to implementing the six measures immediately through their domestic legal and administrative systems. The measures seek to "break the ties of complicity with Israel's campaign of devastation in Palestine", the group added. A date has been set for 20 September 2025, coinciding with the 80th UN General Assembly, for additional states to join them in adopting the measures, the statement added. "Consultations with capitals across the world are now ongoing." What are the six measures? The six measures are as follows: 1. Prevent the provision or transfer of arms, munitions, military fuel, related military equipment, and dual-use items to Israel. 2. Prevent the transit, docking, and servicing of vessels at any port…. in all cases where there is a clear risk of the vessel being used to carry arms, munitions, military fuel, related military equipment, and dual-use items to Israel. 3. Prevent the carriage of arms, munitions, military fuel, related military equipment, and dual-use items to Israel on vessels bearing our flag… and ensure full accountability, including de-flagging, for non-compliance with this prohibition. Commence an urgent review of all public contracts, to prevent public institutions and funds from supporting Israel's illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territory and entrenching its unlawful presence. 5. Comply with obligations to ensure accountability for the most serious crimes under international law, through robust, impartial and independent investigations and prosecutions at national or international levels, to ensure justice for all victims and the prevention of future crimes. 6. Support universal jurisdiction mandates, as and where applicable in national legal frameworks and judiciaries, to ensure justice for victims of international crimes committed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. In her closing speech, Francesca Albanese, UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, said: "These aren't just measures but are lifelines for a people who are under relentless assault and a world that has been paralysed for too long." "These 12 states have taken a momentous step forward," Albanese added. "The clock is now ticking for states, from Europe to the Arab world and beyond, to join them." The conference agreed to set a deadline for states' final decisions by September 2025, in line with the 12-month timeframe mandated by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/ES-10/24, adopted on 18 September 2024. That resolution called on all states to take effective action on Israel's violations of international law, including accountability, sanctions, and cessation of support, within one year of adoption. "What we have achieved here is a collective affirmation that no state is above the law," said South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola. "The Hague Group was born to advance international law in an era of impunity. The measures adopted in Bogotá show that we are serious, and that coordinated state action is possible." Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla, the executive secretary of The Hague Group, said: "This conference marks a turning point, not just for Palestine, but for the future of the international system. "For decades, states, particularly in the Global South, have borne the cost of a broken international system. In Bogotá, they came together to reclaim it, not with words, but with actions." Israel's war on Gaza, increasingly condemned by experts and governments as a genocide, has killed more than 58,000 Palestinians and displaced almost the entire population since October 2023. The onslaught has left the Palestinian enclave barely habitable and around two million on the brink of starvation.

Liverpool open talks to sign Hugo Ekitike after Alexander Isak transfer response
Liverpool are still hopeful of making a new attacking signing despite already spending more than £170m and want Alexander Isak from Newcastle, but the Magpies are reluctant to lose their star man Liverpool have approached Eintracht Frankfurt over signing Hugo Ekitike as an alternative if they can't land Newcastle forward Alexander Isak. The Reds have already had a busy transfer window so far after bringing in full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, plus highly-rated playmaker Florian Wirtz for £116.5million. But Arne Slot's side aren't finished there and want a new striker to be brought in to play with the likes of Mohamed Salah, challenging Luis Diaz for a place up front. Isak appears to be Liverpool's No.1 target this summer but a deal looks difficult to get done, with Newcastle set to demand more than £125m for their star man - so they are now said to be looking at Ekitike as a back-up option. According to the Athletic, Liverpool have made contact with Frankfurt, but it won't be simple for the Reds to get the Frenchman either. Interestingly enough, Newcastle are also chasing Ekitike and have already had a £70m bid for the striker turned down by Frankfurt, who are said to want £85m. The Magpies want the hitman to play alongside Isak - having failed to snap him up in 2022. At that point he opted to join PSG, but struggled to get game time for the French club as he scored a total of just four goals in the 2022-23 season. After being loaned to Frankfurt in 2024, his move was eventually turned permanent and he managed to smash in 22 goals from 48 appearances in all competitions last season. It comes at a time where Liverpool are dealing with possible outgoings. Darwin Nunez has been strongly linked with an exit after links to Napoli. There have also been reports AC Milan have launched a £52m bid for the Uruguayan, who struggled for game time under Slot last season. Liverpool have also had to fend off interest in Luis Diaz from Bayern Munich. The German club had a £58.6m bid rejected for the Colombian forward, with Liverpool insisting the player was not for sale. Liverpool value the player closer to £87m after he helped the Reds win the title last season with 17 goals.

Albanese Says U.S. Sanctions Are 'Violation' of Her Immunity
Bogota - Saba: Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, said that the sanctions imposed on her by Washington following her criticism of the U.S. administration's stance on Gaza constitute a "violation" of her immunity. According to Agence France-Presse, Albanese made the statement during her visit to Bogotá, nearly a week after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared her work "biased and malicious." Albanese said, "This is a very serious and unprecedented measure, and I am taking it very seriously." She is visiting Bogotá to attend a global summit initiated by Colombian President Gustavo Petro aimed at finding solutions to the conflict in Gaza. The Italian lawyer and human rights expert has faced strong criticism over her repeated accusations that "Israel" is committing "genocide" in Gaza. Albanese stressed, "This is a clear violation of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, which protects UN officials, including independent experts, for statements and actions made while performing their duties." On July 9, Rubio announced that Washington had imposed sanctions on Albanese "for her illegitimate and disgraceful efforts to push the International Criminal Court to act against U.S. and Israeli officials and companies." Albanese said the sanctions are "a warning to anyone who dares to stand up for international law, human rights, justice, and freedom." Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Everything To Know About Danny Ramirez
Marvel star Danny Ramirez is certainly turning heads, and not just for his superhero chops. Fresh off her divorce, Jessica Alba has reportedly struck up a romance with the actor. On 13th July, Danny and Jessica were spotted boarding a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles, seemingly trying to keep a low profile in sunglasses and baseball caps. Although the couple's appearance wasn't exactly PDA-filled, insiders said they were very much travelling as a pair and seemed 'comfortable' around each other. It comes just months after Jessica was spotted strolling around London's Regent Park with a mystery man – a man who many now believe was Danny, who was in the city at the time. The pair were seen in May holding hands as they strolled the grounds, with onlookers describing the date as being 'very intimate.' So, who exactly is Danny Ramirez? And is he really dating Jessica Alba? Here's everything you need to know about the Hollywood star. Danny Ramirez is an actor best known for his role in the Marvel universe as Falcon. Born on September 17th, 1992, he's currently 32 years old (and a loyal and reliable Virgo.) © Simon Ackerman/FilmMagic He's recently sparked dating rumours with Jessica Alba – who filed for divorce from her ex Cash Warren in February, after nearly 17 years together. Danny was born in Chicago, Illinois, to a Mexican mother and a Colombian father. At seven, he moved to Miami with his family. Having originally aspired to be a professional football player, Danny pivoted to acting after injuries sidelined his athletic dreams. He went on to attend NYU's prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, where the likes of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Adam Sandler also studied. Danny's acting career kickstarted in 2015, having guest roles on TV shows including The Affair, Blindspot , and Orange Is The New Black (where he appeared in one episode as the character Paolo). He later went on to star as Wes on Fox's The Gifted , Mario Martinez on Netflix's On My Block, and as Manny in The Last of Us. In 2022, Danny received critical acclaim for portraying Lt. Mickey 'Fanboy' Garcia in Top Gun: Maverick - a film where the cast famously learnt to fly planes. Starring alongside Tom Cruise, Danny said, 'I couldn't stop smiling, it was a dream. He was not only Maverick for us, he was a coach.' ©Lexie Moreland/Variety via Getty Images But landing the role didn't come without some white lies. When he got the job, Danny was made to sign a waiver saying he would do his flight training - despite the fact he had a fear of flying. 'It was too big of an audition not to lie,' he laughed. 'If I took a commercial flight, I'd have to take a couple of wines, my Bose headphones, the Calm app, and then just meditate my way through this. 'Tom created this flight school so meticulously [that] by the end of my time, I was just obsessed. It dispelled that fear for me.' Fans of the Marvel Universe may know Danny best for his portrayal as Joaquin Torres – otherwise known as Falcon – since 2021. Playing the superhero, Danny has starred in films including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier , Captain America: Brave New World , and will appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday , set for release next year. Prior to now, the actor has kept his private life exactly that: private. There's little information about his personal life, including details on past relationships. Now, it seems he might have found romance with his fellow Marvel star Jessica Alba – who has played Susan 'Sue' Storm in the superhero-focused universe since 2005. ©After Jessica Alba publicly separated from husband Cash Warren in February 2025, photos released by TMZ appeared to show her boarding a flight from Cancun to LA in July with a mystery man. That mystery man was later found to have been Danny, who is 12 years her junior. While the couple haven't officially confirmed their romance, they were spotted together in Cancun, as well as in a London park. Charlotte Roberts is a news and entertainment writer at Grazia UK.
