Heartbroken Giants star pays tribute to ex-college teammate after horrific ATV crash that killed his girlfriend
Giants rookie Abdul Carter has been left broken-hearted after his former college teammate was involved in a serious ATV accident over the weekend. Former Penn State receiver Julian Fleming was driving the vehicle in Columbia Township, Pennsylvania when it struck a deer who jumped into the road, according to a police report. Fleming was hospitalized with 'serious injuries,' though his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd - who was also onboard - died at the scene. Carter took to X on Sunday to offer some words of encouragement to his former Nittany Lions teammate. 'stay strong fam,' he wrote with two broken-heart emojis and two praying-hands emojis, before writing out Fleming's name. The 23-year-old Fleming was taken to Guthrie Troy Community Hospital following the crash. Neither Fleming, 24, nor Boyd, 23, were wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash, per the police report. Fleming, who went undrafted in last month's NFL Draft, played four seasons at Ohio State before transferring to Penn State for the 2024 season. He and Carter spent one season as teammates together in State College, as Fleming registered 176 receiving yards and Carter racked up 12 sacks. Both played 16 games for Penn State last season. Fleming signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent, but did not end up joining the team after failing his physical. Carter, meanwhile, became a Giant after New York used their No. 3 overall pick on the pass rusher. The former Penn State star recently participated in Giants minicamp as he continues to get adjusted to his new team. Big Blue will begin holding OTAs this week into early June before training camp begins in July. The Giants open their season at the Commanders on September 7.
