City to canvass election results, swear in officials

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — With the May 3 election over, the City of San Angelo is making plans to canvass unofficial election results, swear in elected officials and hold a runoff election. According to the City, the following outcomes were determined through the May 3 election: Proposed bond for CRC Roofers Coliseum renovation: Passed with 53% of the vote. Mayor: Tom Thompson was elected with 51% of the vote. District 4 City Council: Patrick Keely was elected with 67% of the vote. District 6 City Council: Mary Coffey was elected and ran unopposed. RELATED: San Angelo bonds, city council election results The results will be canvassed during a special City Council meeting on May 14. Once the results have been made official, Thompson, Keely and Coffey will be formally sworn into their positions during the May 20 City Council meeting. The City stated that both meetings will be held in the McNease Convention Center at 501 Rio Concho Drive. San Angelo citizens will have to wait longer to welcome their new District 2 councilmember, though. The City stated that a runoff election between candidates Dudra Butler and Joe Self will be held because neither candidate 'received 50% plus one vote' during the May 3 election. The runoff election will be held on June 7. Early voting will be held from May 27 to June 3 in the Edd B. and Frances Frink Keyes Building, located at 113 W. Beauregard Ave., during the following times: May 27-31 — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 1 — 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-3 — 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information on local elections, visit Your Local Election HQ webpage. Donations boost Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association's mission

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Jesse Wagner and James Beddo with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association spoke with Senora Scott to share how donations given to their organization on May 3 can help combat veterans in the area. When asked what the association does, Wagner explained that their mission is 'vets helping vets'. The giving is on! San Angelo Gives 2025 kicks off 'We do whatever we can to help prevent anyone from becoming another statistic of 22 a day,' said Wagner. In the past, Beddo explained that the group helps its veterans in various ways, like building ramps for a veteran with Texas Ramps. Wagner added that they used donations to help pay bills for a veteran going through chemotherapy. 'When we give, we help out anyone that asks us for help,' said Wagner. SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Senora Scott met up with San Angelo Area Foundation Community Engagement and Marketing VP Janet Karcher to talk about this year's San Angelo Gives. Karcher shared that 2025 marks the 11th anniversary of San Angelo Gives. 'We kicked off our 11th year of San Angelo Gives and our community has truly responded with heartfelt generosity,' she said. 'And so we are excited to see what the day holds.' Karcher explained that people can give to local organizations through the San Angelo Gives website. Donors are able to search to find the organization they want to support. 'Each gift is amplified by others, so your gift goes a little bit further and then you can also help win extra cash for your favorite causes as well,' she said. SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — An angler has made waves in San Angelo after reeling in an over 50-pound catfish at Lake Nasworthy, the heaviest recorded fish caught at the lake. According to the San Angelo district of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's Inland Fisheries, Cody Gift submitted a flathead catfish as the pending waterbody record for Lake Nasworthy. Advertisement Gift's fish weighed 51.55 pounds and was 44.75 inches long. The current heaviest fish recorded for Lake Nasworthy weighed 51.5 pounds, measured 46 inches long and was caught in 1989 by David Schoebel.
