NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Thursday, June 5: Clues And Answers For Today's Game

Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Wednesday's: Hey there, Connectors! I hope you've had a fabulous week so far. This is a big day and not only because the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally out in the world. I reached a 99-game Connections winning streak yesterday. That's by far my longest streak (my previous best was 32). A win today will take me into double figures. That would be quite nice. Ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of the universe, but arbitrary numbers do something to our brains. I want to feel those endorphins hit hard as my streak counter tips over into double figures. I'm ready. Let's do this. Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don't look at the comments or Twitter much. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes. Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, June 5 are coming right up. Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT's website or Games app. You're presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There's only one solution for each puzzle, and you'll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them. Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay. Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you're incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you're one word away from getting it right, but you'll still need to figure out which one to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's make sure that doesn't happen with the help of some hints, and, if you're really struggling, today's Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication's Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed. Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find our hints Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query. Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today's Connections groups, I'll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them. Today's 16 words are... And the hints for today's Connections groups are: Need some extra help? Be warned: we're starting to get into spoiler territory. Let's take a look at one word for each group. Today's Connections word hints are… Today's Connections groups are... Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... I found it quite interesting that both PIPE and APPLE carried over from yesterday's game! RIM could have gone with the car-related stuff but I thought it made more sense with VERGE, BRINK and CUSP. But no! I was one away from a group there. I realized a moment later that EVE should go with those three. I blame the EVE, SNAKE and APPLE red herring for me getting that wrong at first. No more drama. It was all pretty straightforward from there. I got the greens then the blues no problem. I should have at least recognized the performers in the purples but alas, I did not. They refer to Fiona APPLE, Sheryl CROW, Donna SUMMER (who won for 'Hot Stuff,' which is more of a disco song, I'd say) and Tina TURNER. Crow, Turner and Pat Benatar each won this Grammy category four times before it was rightfully merged with the male equivalent into the Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance category (which itself was discontinued). Anyway, I am into triple digits with a Connections streak for the first time ever! I don't care that I got here without getting a perfect game at the end. It feels like a nice little achievement to reach this point for the first time, especially after only looking up things once on this run (I had to Google those types of penguins a few weeks ago!). Anyway, for the record, here's how I fared with this one: 🟦🟨🟨🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪 That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Friday's game if you need them. P.S. I'm gonna have to go with a song from one of the performers in the purple group. I really love "Soak Up The Sun" by Sheryl Crow. It's such a great summer song and it has a nice message about having a positive attitude. Somewhat ironically, I spent pretty much an entire summer listening to C'mon, C'mon (the album this is song is from), Come Away With Me by Norah Jones and Audioslave's self-titled debut while staying inside and playing a video game with my friends. I'm gonna try to do a better job of taking the song's title to heart this summer (remember to wear sunscreen and take other heat precautions!): Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my new newsletter, Pastimes.

NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Tuesday, June 3: Clues And Answers For Today's Game

Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections. Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Monday's: Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week is off to a great start. Starting today, I'm going to switch things up a little bit here. I've been thinking about this for a while and today's the day to make the change. No need to worry though! I'm adding an extra set of hints, with one word for each group. I think it makes the most sense to slot this set of hints between the first bunch (which is often a little more cryptic) and revealing the official description for each category. There's another little change I'm making, but… we'll get to that. Let's see how things go. I'd appreciate your feedback on this either on Discord (more on that in a moment) or via email at [my first name @ my full name dot net]. I'm just trying to make this column as useful as I can for you all! This is your final warning! Today's Connections answers are... Since I was so close to my 100th win in a row at this point, it seems like a good time to move my little streak tracker and emoji result thing to after the walkthrough of my thought process. I know some of you were hoping for me to reach that 100-win streak and, well, we'll see what happened as part of that journey today. My first attempt was with a group of SHOWBOAT, POSTURE, CHARM and SWAGGER. I was one away from a group there. I swapped out POSTURE for GRANDSTAND and was still one away! Uh oh. I eventually realized that CHARM was the odd one out and ditched that for POSTURE. That finally got me the yellows. I made a silly mistake with the next group by accidentally including SELF-CARE with the greens instead of HUNKY-DORY (SWELL doesn't really git with those, since it's more of a positive state than "just fine" in my book). Now I was really in trouble. A 97-game streak on the line. The nerves were rattling. Thankfully, I was able to spot the purples on the smaller grid and I was able to exhale. I didn't get the connection for the blues (I don't think I'd heard of a TENNIS bracelet before). Did not care one bit about not recognizing the connection at that point. That meant I had a 98th win in the books. No perfect game obviously. I'm just happy to keep this thing rolling. For the record, here's how I fared: 🟨🟨🟦🟨 🟨🟦🟨🟨 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟩🟩🟩 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟦🟦🟦🟦 That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. The YouTube algorithm has been doing a great job lately of surfacing new music I enjoy from artists I've never heard of before. I liked this performance very much. I'll be sure to check out more of Jenny Scara's music: Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love! NYT ‘Connections' Hints For Monday, June 1: Clues And Answers For Today's Game

Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections. Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. Before we get to today's Connections hints and answers, here are Sunday's: Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the start of a new week. I hope it's a terrific one for you. Also, we're into June, so Happy Pride! In case you're just joining us, you should know that I like to start the Monday editions of this column with an upbeat song. Y'know, to hopefully get you moving around a little, shake off any cobwebs and help ensure you're in a sunny mood. I know I've used this song as a regular recommendation before (I include one at the end of the column every day!). Still, I really only had one choice for how to open things today. I think it's safe to say that "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan is a generational queer anthem. I don't think there's any other track that makes me both dance and well up every single time I hear it. This is such a wonderful, inspiring song, a truly beautiful banger. It's forever a reminder of how important it is for us all to live as authentically and as true to ourselves as possible: Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It's a fun hangout spot, and you're more than welcome to hang out with us. Folks, that's win number 97 in a row for your ol' pal, Kris. And with a perfect game too. Three more to go... Here's how I fared: 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟨🟨🟨🟨 MYRRH and RHYTHM were dead giveaways for the blues. With MYRRH out of commission, that meant there was probably some wordplay going on with FRANKINCENSE. I mean, in what other context do you ever hear that word? I thought there might have been a group of words related to discounts with MARKDOWN and VALUE in the mix, but not much else made sense. I realized that VALUE made more sense with PRIZE and TREASURE, and that gave me the greens. The yellows were very obvious at that point and it only took one look at what were clearly the purples to figure out the connection there (I swear, the puzzle creator is on a mission to make it impossible to write good hints). Purples, yellows, done. That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday's game if you need them. P.S. I've been meaning to include some Primal Scream songs in this recommendation section for a while. I was super in the mood to listen to "Country Girl" so I'm gonna go with that. It's such a great summertime song and that chorus is great to sing along to any day of the year. It feels fitting for the Monday vibe I like to try to cultivate around here : Have a great day! ‘Connections' Hints For May 26: Clues And Answers For Today's Game

Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections. Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. As such, 'today's Connections hints and answers' depend on where you are in the world. In case you need them, here are the Connections hints and answers for Sunday: Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the start of a new week. I know it's going to be a great one for you. I'm happy back to be with you for another midweek run of Connections columns. For those who are just joining us, I have a little thing I do on Mondays. In addition to the daily recommendation I include at the end of every column, I like to kick off the Monday edition with an upbeat song. My hope is to put a smile on your face (or make one that's there even broader) and get you moving around. Let's get those endorphins flowing and your week off to a positive start. Summer is almost upon us in the northern hemisphere and that's the best time of year for upbeat music. Whether it's pop, funk, soul, Motown, reggae… whatever. It's time to listen to fun music and have a good time. I do love a bit of ska punk, though. I firmly believe that you can improve any song by adding a brass section, and the syncopated guitar chords in this genre meld beautifully with the trumpets, trombones and saxes. I have just decided as I write this to make this an all-ska punk theme week here on my column. Even if you don't think that's going to be your thing, give it a go! We're gonna kick things off with an absolute classic, 'The Impression That I Get' by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I did it with a perfect game too, which was even better. Here's how I fared: 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩 POLAR, COUNTER, REVERSE and OPPOSITE certainly seemed like a group. I decided I wanted to go for the reverse rainbow today, so I held off on submitting those at the jump. WASHCLOTH, SHEET, PILLOWCASE and TOWEL seemed like a decent shout for a group as they're all household fabric items (I wasn't sure a WASHCLOTH would quality as a linen). My guess was that the synonyms would be yellow and the fabric stuff would be green. However, I wasn't seeing what would go together with TEDDY, SLIP and GARTER (TEDDY and GUMMY seemed like a red herring!). Perhaps PILLOWCASE, as a group of things make of silk? But that would throw off what I presumed would be the green group. Hmm... Eventually, I realized that HOSE could be short for "pantyhose." So I figured I had the blues at that point. As for what I presumed were the purples, I did not figure out the connection there, largely because I almost never get these kinds of groups were one letter is changed. Still, I submitted those first. They refer to gin (DIN), bridge (FRIDGE), rummy (GUMMY) and poker (JOKER). (My hint refers to bluke, king, pitch and knack. Not the most obvious card games, but there weren't a lot of options that made sense! These are the purples and they're not supposed to be easy, so I'm okay with it.) The blues were next, followed by... the yellows. Rats! I got the yellows and greens mixed up. So, so close to my sixth-ever reverse rainbow. Maybe tomorrow. That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Tuesday's game if you need them. P.S. I'm really looking forward to playing the remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 that's coming soon, so I've been listening to a playlist that includes songs from across the series. For me, no song is more closely linked with these games than 'Superman' by Goldfinger. It fits this week's ska punk song theme and it's still terrific, so here you go: Have a great day! Beat Today's NYT Connections With Hints And Answers For Friday, May 23

Each day's game of NYT Connections goes live at midnight local time. As such, 'today's Connections hints and answers' depend on where you are in the world. In case you need them, here are the Connections hints and answers for Thursday: Hey there, Connectors! The weekend is right around the corner. I hope you make it a memorable one! I read something recently that's really stuck with me. Jamie Cattanach spent years as a traveling writer with no fixed abode, but was ready to put down roots after turning 30. However, after Cattanach found a place to call home in Portland, Oregon, a 'sudden homebody-ism' took hold. "As a younger adult, I'd always thought the comfort of the familiar was a poor substitute for the excitement of the novel — that seeking out familiarity was necessarily a sacrifice, often based in fear or ignorance," Cattanach wrote in a guest essay for Wild Writing (go read it!). "But now I see that one lifetime can have enough room for both. I'm so grateful for the time I spent all over the place. It did give me fuel to tell more powerful stories in a richer and better-informed context. It was also just plain fun." I absolutely relate to this. I'm a homebody by nature. I can easily spend a few days without going outside (especially in winter!). But lived experiences are always where the best stories come from. Writers are often told, particularly when it comes to fiction, 'write what you know.' But they'll quickly run out of things to write about if they don't live life fully enough or experience much outside of their bubble. The same goes for having stories worth telling. I have to remind myself of that more often than I'd like to admit. (I wrote about a similar subject in my newsletter this week!) Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. Still, a DRAM is a unit of measurement (equal to an eighth of a fluid ounce, or whatever I decide is a dram of whisky when I'm pouring). So I clumped those together and had the blues. BLOWOUT, MAKEUP and EYELINER seemed like a red herring to me, so I steered clear of that. I did soon realize that MAKEUP should go with CHARACTER, FIBER (as in moral fiber?) and NATURE. That got me the greens. The yellows seemed very clear at that point – they're all words that refer to a particularly enjoyable party. But, as ever, I submitted the purples first. No idea about the connection there, either before or after submitting it. I'd never heard of "cat's eye" in any of these contexts. The only thing I had in mind was the end of Men in Black, where aliens are playing with marbles that contain entire galaxies. That could have brought together MARBLE and NEBULA. GLASSES could have worked with those two with the whole shades and memory-erasing device thing. Anyway, as clueless as I was about the purples, I'll take that win. That's all there is to it for today's Connections clues and answers. I'll be back with you all here on Monday. In the meantime, you can check out my weekend editions of this column in my newsletter, Pastimes. P.S. I find it hard to listen to most music while I'm working. Lyrics that I understand mess with my language-processing capabilities when I'm trying to write. So if I do have music on while I'm working, it's usually something instrumental (or sung in a language I don't understand). One of my favorite games of 2023 was Lone Ruin, an action-packed, magic-based roguelike (though a fairly condensed one). The propulsive, synth-heavy soundtrack by Alfred Rahm is something I sometimes turn to when I'm in get-stuff-done mode. This won't be for everyone, but it often works for me. The second track, 'Break,' is my favorite of the bunch: P.P.S. The imperial measurement system makes no sense and the metric system is the one that we should all be using. I rest my case. Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love! Please follow my blog for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot! Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. You can also read my weekend editions of this column at my newsletter, Pastimes.
