Discussing his decision to part with the items, Ian said: "I couldn't believe it when I received the shirts and the trophy. "It will be tough to part with the items but I think it is time to pass them on and let another fan get as much pleasure as I have from them." Headlining the collection is the Rangers Hall of Fame trophy, which was awarded posthumously in 2000 when Cooper was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame. The bronze bust on a slate base is inscribed with "Rangers Football Club, Hall of Fame, Davie Cooper 1977 – 1989". This unique item is expected to sell for between £2,000 and £4,000. The Greatest Team jersey, which was presented to Cooper's family in 1999 after a worldwide fan poll selected him for Rangers' all-time best eleven, is anticipated to reach between £800 and £1,200. Meanwhile, the match-worn claret and amber Motherwell jersey is expected to sell for between £500 and £1,000. This shirt was worn during the later stages of the tournament, which ended in a dramatic 4–3 final victory over Dundee United at Hampden Park. Scores of migrants board overloaded dinghies to make dangerous Channel crossing to UK – as French cops watch on

Over the past week, there have not been any arrivals of migrants crossing the Channel in small boats, figures from the Home Office show. However, 2025 could be on course to have the highest number of Channel crossings ever, with more than 13,000 people having arrived in the UK so far. That's roughly 30 per cent higher than figures were at the same time last year. There have been major concerns over both the number of deaths of people making the perilous journey across the Channel and the prevalence of organised smuggling gangs. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has pledged to crack down on these criminals who put migrants' lives at risk, and to eventually reduce the number of small boat crossings. Just last month, one person tragically died while trying to cross the Channel. The International Organization for Migration (IOM), which is a UN agency, estimated at least 78 migrants died while making the crossing in 2024, making it the deadliest year on record. Since 2018, at least 225 migrants have lost their lives making the dangerous journey to the UK, according to the IOM. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said previously that gangs had been taking advantage of recent calmer weather days to try and make crossings. Inside Calais camp where migrants pay thousands to be smuggled into UK In an interview on the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg show, Ms Cooper said: 'The really unacceptable situation we're in is because of the way the criminal gangs have taken hold, our border security ends up being dependent on the weather. 'We cannot continue like this, where the number of calm days affects the number of crossings.' Ms Cooper insisted 'only a coordinated international response' across the whole migration route could effectively end the reign of the people smugglers. She admitted the situation was unacceptable and could not continue. Last month also saw the highest single number of migrants arriving on small boats so far this year, as more than 700 people crossed the English Channel. Last year, a total of 36,816 migrants illegally crossed the Channel in small boats, up from 29,437 in 2023. 6 One French cop takes a snap as the boat departed on its dangerous journey across the Channel Credit: PA 6 More than 13,000 people have illegally crossed into the UK by using small boats so far this year Credit: PA 6 The remains of one small boat in Gravelines today Credit: PA However, the highest year on record remains 2022, where 45,755 people made the treacherous journey to Britain. The prime minister has faced scrutiny for failing to reduce the number of small boat crossings, and the influx of illegal migration. However, he was given a lifeline as Kosovo said it would be "open" to discussions in becoming a return hub for failed UK asylum seekers. The western Balkan nation is being considered under plans to deport those who have failed in their efforts to stay in the UK. Other options in the region — a principal route for illegal migrants — are said to include Serbia, North Macedonia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. No formal talks have yet taken place.

Could a 40-year-old Quade Cooper take on the NFL's biggest stars? He thinks so

Quade Cooper was meant to go to the Olympics as part of the Australian rugby sevens team at Rio in 2016, only to be deemed ineligible because he didn't have an Australian passport – despite having played more than 50 games for the Wallabies. Nearly 10 years on, the New Zealand-born Cooper is eyeing an opportunity to get to the Games at last – this time as the quarterback for the Australian flag football team, where he could line up across from the likes of Justin Jefferson or Brock Purdy after the NFL gave the green light for its players to try out for the US team. Cooper, who is currently playing rugby in Japan – and has since acquired an Australian passport – is the Australian quarterback in flag football, the five-a-side American football variant which will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 2028. The two-time World Cup medallist will be 40 by then, but he doesn't see age as a barrier to finally getting that Olympic debut. 'Where I'm at right now, I could play rugby for another two or three years quite easily if I wanted to. That's because I look after myself very well physically. But the sports are so different,' Cooper said. 'Rugby is a physically demanding sport where you're taking hits, and you're taking a lot of collisions and hits not just in a game but daily at training. The sport that we're talking about here is a sport that has zero collisions ... it's a lot different when you're trying to dodge and get out of the way of someone trying to take your head off as opposed to someone trying to come in and rip a tag off.' As an NFL fan, Cooper would relish in the opportunity to face off against some of its biggest stars. 'I'm obviously a fan of NFL, but stepping on the field, you're going out there to compete, and you want to compete against the best guys,' he said.
