🎥 Lamine Yamal scores and assists in first game as Barcelona's new No.10
Lamine Yamal just keeps going from strength to strength. After a stellar season in which he helped Barcelona win the LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey, the 18-year-old was handed the club's prestigious number 10 jersey, once worn by Lionel Messi. And Yamal wasted no time in living up to the hype with a virtuoso performance in Thursday's pre-season friendly with FC Spain international almost opened the scoring in the 8th minute, only for his shot to bounce back off the post into Robert Lewandowski's path for a tap-in. But Yamal soon did get on the scoresheet with a great low strike which just crept into the corner. It's only pre-season, but he's already looking very sharp indeed. 📸 Chung Sung-Jun - 2025 Getty Images

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to undergo back surgery and miss three months of action
FC Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will be out of competition for at least three months as he is about to undergo surgery to repair a back injury. Due to back pain, ter Stegen has been unable to train with Barça, which returned to the training field last week. On Thursday, the 33-year-old wrote a heartfelt statement on his Instagram story regarding his injury. After noting his love for the club and its fans, ter Stegen said, "Today is a difficult day for me, on a personal level. "Physically and athletically, I'm in great shape, but unfortunately, I'm not exempt from pain. After intense conversations with the FC Barcelona medical team and external experts, the fastest and safest way to fully recover is back surgery," ter Stegen wrote. "After the last back surgery, I returned to the playing fields after 66 days, almost two months, but this time, doctors believe it will take about three months, as a precaution and not to take risks. "On an emotional level, it hurts me a lot not to be able to help the team during this time, but fortunately, the rehabilitation is bearable and the road back is plotted," he added. "I will keep you updated on my recovery and I want to, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all, dear friends, for always being by my side. Don't worry, I'll be back!" Ter Stegen's upcoming absence comes after he appeared in just 28 games in La Liga due to a knee injury. Despite being limited, ter Stegen clocked in 15 clean sheets in domestic competition. His injuries prompted Barca to sign Wojciech Szczesny out of retirement. Nonetheless, Barcelona won La Liga with a 28-4-6 (W-D-L) record and also lifted the Copa Del Rey while falling in the Champions League semifinal to Inter. With ter Stegen set to miss a significant number of games, the team is covered with Szczesny and Joan Garcia, who is joining the club from Catalan rivals Espanyol on a €25 million deal. Ter Stegen joined Barça in 2014 for €12 million and has been the team's primary No.1 since 2016. In his time with the club, the German has made 422 appearances and won 17 trophies. Barca will return to action on July 31 in a friendly match against FC Seoul in the South Korean capital.

Spain international defender reaches agreement with Champions League side
Athletic Club are enjoying their most successful spell in the 21st century, after winning the Copa del Rey two years ago, and returning to the Champions League this season. It has been met with renewed ambition in the transfer market. After securing a €15m deal for Alvaro Djalo last summer, Los Leones appear to be on the verge of signing Osasuna right-back Jesus Areso. The big 'signing' though has been the contract that was agreed with Nico Williams until 2035, staving off interest from Barcelona. Athletic are not done yet though. Aymeric Laporte set for Athletic return? Image via Marca According to Alberto Santacruz of RadioMarca, Athletic have now reached an agreement on personal terms with former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte. The ex-Lexama product is set to pen a three or four-year deal if Athletic can find an agreement with Al-Nassr, but Santacruz declares that 'everything will be closed this week'. The Basque giants must now find an agreement with the Saudi Arabian side, who started off demanding the €27.5m fee they spent on Laporte two summers ago. However negotiations are advanced, with Laporte pitching in to help the deal get done. Atletico Madrid option on the backburner Laporte has been heavily linked with a return to Athletic for the past year, and manager Ernesto Valverde had asked for his signing as a top priority. The 31-year-old was also an option for Atletico Madrid, but it appears they have gone in a different direction. Spain motivation for Laporte Part of the reason for his return to Europe is a bid to return to the Spain side. Luis de la Fuente left him out of the most recent squad, and Laporte's level has declined this year. A return to La Liga is in part a response to his place with La Roja being under threat, with the World Cup cresting the horizon next summer.
