Corn Closes with Mixed Trade on Thursday
Corn bulls fought off the weakness on Thursday, as contracts closed with nearbys within a penny of unchanged. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was up 3/4 cent at $3.57 1/4. USDA reported private export sales announcements of 136,000 MT to South Korea and 132,000 MT to Spain all for new crop. Sign Up Now! This morning's Export Sales report showed net reductions of 88,686 MT for old crop corn during the week of 8/7. That was a MY low, but is normal as we are in the last month of the marketing year. Japan was the buyer of 136,900 MT, with 88,200 MT sold to Spain, as unknown saw net reductions of 353,800 MT (mostly switched). New crop was tallied at 2.04 MMT, was the second largest total for the marketing year. That takes the total to 13.825 MMT, which is the second largest on record for this week. Mexico was the buyer o 498m400 MT, with 356,200 MT sold to unknown destinations. CONAB estimates the Brazilian corn crop at 137 MMT, which was a jump if 5.03 MMT from last month. That mainly came via a 5.02 MMT increase to the second crop at 109.56. A South Korean importer purchased 65,000 MT of corn overnight with the origin still to be determined. The Rosario Grains Exchange estimates the Argentina corn area in the main regions up 15 to 20% for 2025/26. Corn Falling to Kickoff Thursday
Corn price action is back down 4 to 4 ¼ cents so far on Thursday morning. Futures rounded out the Wednesday session with contracts up 2 to 3 cents, as bulls were in recovery mode from the Tuesday selloff. Preliminary open interest showed some light net new buying, up 14,024 contracts. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was up 2 ¼ cents at $3.56 1/2. EIA data showed a total of 1.093 million barrels per day of ethanol production in the week ending on August 8, an increase of 12,000 bpd from last week and 21,000 bpd from the same week last year. Stocks saw a massive draw of 1.107 million barrels to 22.649 million barrels, the lowest since December. Ethanol exports were up 7,000 barrels per day to 123,000 bpd, with refiner inputs of ethanol 7,000 bpd higher to 929,000 bpd. Corn Clawing a Couple Cents Back on Wednesday Morning
Corn price action is up 2 to 2 1.4 cents so far on Wednesday morning. Futures fell lower on Tuesday as USDA added more than 1 billion bushels to the balance sheet. Contracts closed with losses of 12 to 13 ½ cents. Preliminary open interest saw some rolling out of the September contract (-49,472), with December up 38,017 contracts. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was down 13 1/4 cents at $3.54 1/4. USDA reported a private export sale on Tuesday morning of 315,488 MT of corn to Mexico, with 20,830 MT for old crop and 294,658 MT for 2025/26. Production was pegged at 16.742 billion bushels, up 1.037 bbu from last month's WASDE total. Acreage was a big reason as a surprising 2.1 million planted acres were added this month to 97.3 million acres. FSA certified acres were tallied at 96.52 million acres Via the WASDE, old crop corn stocks were pegged at 1.305 bbu, down 35 mbu from last month, as exports were raised by 70 mby, with corn used in ethanol trimmed back. With the production changes, new crop was up 457 mbu to 2.117 bbu. World stocks for the 2025/26 marketing year were 10.46 MMT higher to 282.54 MMT. Old crop production for Brazil was unchanged at 132 MMT. Several overnight tenders by South Korean importers showed purchases total 266,000 MT. ANEC estimates the August corn export total for Brazil at 7.97 MMT, a 0.39 MMT increase from their previous number and would be 1.9 MMT above the same month last year. Grow a Garden porridge recipe: Check steps to make transcendent, prismatic and other types of porridge
Synopsis Porridge recipes are now available. Basic Porridge needs corn, mangoes, and dragon fruit. Transcendent and Prismatic Porridge require Bone Blossom. A pro tip suggests using corn and Sugar Apple as Bone Blossom alternatives. Gather ingredients and head to the Cooking Hub. Press E to submit ingredients and click Cook. AP Making basic Porridge is straightforward—you'll just need a combination of corn/violet corn, mangoes, and dragon fruit. The challenge comes with Transcendent and Prismatic Porridge, since they require Bone Blossom, a rare fruit. Pro tip: If you're short on Bone Blossom, you can still make Prismatic Porridge with just 1x Corn and 2–3x Sugar Apple. Gather the required ingredients. Corn price action is up 2 to 2 ¼ cents to start Monday trade. Futures gave back into some weakness on Friday, as contracts were down 1 to 2 cents. Preliminary open interest was down 13,086 contracts. September was down 6 ¾ cents last week, with December slipping 5 ¼ cents. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was down 1 3/4 cents at $3.65 1/2. Commitment of Traders data showed speculators trimming 7,435 contracts from their net short position as of August 5 to 173,750 contracts.
