91-year-old Pittsburgh-area woman dies after own car rolls over her

A 91-year-old woman in Cranberry Township died on Friday after her vehicle apparently rolled over her, police said. Cranberry Twp Police Lt. Chuck Mascellino said crews were called to the parking lot of the Post Office on Executive Drive around 10 a.m. for an incident. The officer said police believe the 91-year-old driver did not put her car into park before getting out, and it may have rolled over her. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. She later died at the hospital. Mascellino added that police believe the car hit her, but there could have also been a medical incident. The official cause is under investigation. No other information was released on Friday.

Cranberry Township asking people to conserve water amid dry stretch of weather in the Pittsburgh area

People who live and work in Cranberry Township are being asked to conserve water as the Pittsburgh area is in the midst of a dry stretch that has spanned more than two weeks. It's been two weeks since Pittsburgh received any measurable rain and now leaders in Cranberry are asking people to take action with all water customers being asked to voluntarily reduce water usage. "While the Township is not currently under a drought emergency declaration, residents and businesses are encouraged to follow the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's water conservation practices to help ease demand," the township said. Suggested ways to try and use less water include the following ways: "These steps are voluntary, but by working together to reduce unnecessary water use, we can ensure continued reliable service for all residents and protect our system," said Jason Dailey, Interim Utilities Director. The township says it will provide updates and recommend people can find more information on water conservation and drought preparedness online.

ICE takes 16 people into custody at 2 Pittsburgh-area Emiliano's restaurants

A spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed they took 16 people who were "illegally present in the United States" into custody Thursday from Emiliano's restaurants in Richland and Cranberry townships. A snippet of the raid inside the Richland Township location at the Richland Mall was caught on camera. Nidia Oliver raced over when she learned what was happening. She's friends with many of the workers at the business. "Somebody inside told me that they were trying to open safes and open in the office all the drawers and violating all that private property," Oliver said. A spokesperson for ICE told KDKA they executed search warrants at both the Richland Township Emiliano's location and the one on Route 19 in Cranberry Township, where people encountered a similar scene of police and unmarked vehicles. ICE said they had information that the locations "were employing illegal aliens." At each restaurant, several volunteers like Erin Riley showed up from Casa San Jose, a nonprofit that serves the greater Pittsburgh area's Latino immigrants. "They put a lot of effort into blocking off the entryway so that we could not see exactly what was happening," Riley said. KDKA captured a white van that was behind the Richland Mall leaving the premises. According to the nonprofit, ICE officers detained nine workers in Richland Township and seven in Cranberry. "It is terrible to see this happening in the United States, because all these people are honestly trying to make a living," Oliver said. On social media, Emiliano's wrote in a post that "federal agents stormed our restaurants in a show of force that went far beyond anything reasonable or humane. They didn't just detain people – they raided the heart of our business, tore through our spaces, and left behind a trail of fear, confusion, destruction. Our kitchens were flipped. Our walk-ins emptied. Food trashed. Doors broken." They went on to say, "We are standing by our team. We are working with legal experts and community partners to support the people impacted." KDKA reached out to ICE about the damage the restaurant says they caused but hasn't heard back yet. Emiliano's said they will reopen their restaurants. A timeline is unclear. ICE said the investigation is ongoing.

Renderings unveiled for Wegmans' first Pittsburgh-area location in Cranberry Township

Renderings have been unveiled for the first Wegmans store that's coming to the Pittsburgh area in 2027 and will be located in Cranberry Township. The first Wegmans store in western Pennsylvania is going to be located on Cool Springs Drive, near the Penguins' UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Wegmans says the new store will sell a variety of food, including produce, bakery goods and deli products, and offer a large selection of wine and beer. The company says the new store is expected to employ as many as 500 people and will be part of the Cranberry Springs development, which has commercial, residential, office and retail facilities Dan Aken, the vice president of real estate and store planning, says Wegmans received thousands of requests to come to Pittsburgh since their first store in Pennsylvania opened more than 30 years ago, and he said Cranberry Township was the perfect place to finally land. While there is no official timeline for the project, the store is expected to open around 2027.
