Panaji Residency: Rs 22L curtains offered for ‘posh' Delta guests
Panaji: Delta Corp Ltd, which had a corporate tie-up with the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) for Panaji Residency until March 31, approached the corporation to renew the contract. Delta Corp assured the GTDC of consistent occupancy with an approximate payout of Rs 3 crore per year. Delta Corp said that it could utilise a minimum of 6,000 room nights per year at Panaji Residency, translating to Rs 30 lakh of turnover per month. The GTDC's board agreed to renew the corporate tie-up. The GTDC had executed a MoU with Delta Corp Ltd for the period from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2025. Given that Delta Corp will bring in 'high profile guests', an inspection of the GTDC-owned property found that the curtains need replacement. The GTDC offered to replace the curtains in 45 rooms at the Panaji Residency at a cost of Rs 22 lakh. Delta Corp operates four offshore casinos in the Mandovi under the Deltin brand. The GTDC's Panaji Residency is a stone's throw from the Captain of Ports jetty, where the casinos have offices. 'It is important to maintain high standards of aesthetics to match the expectations of the high profile guests who are staying through the corporate tie-up of Delta Corp Ltd, which is generating assured revenue and occupancy at the Panaji Residency. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The financial implication is Rs 22 lakh, excluding GST,' said the note submitted to the board. The board agreed to place the order with the GHRSSIDC, a govt-backed body. Pravin Arlekar is the GHRSSIDC chairman. Panaji Residency recently underwent an upgrade, with rooms being painted and fresh wallpaper being fixed.

Hosp staff treat patients using mobile flashlights after power outage
Hyderabad: The health department on Saturday suspended V Sridhar Kumar, Zaheerabad area hospital in-charge superintendent, following allegations of negligence after patients were reportedly treated under mobile phone lights during a power outage. A video showing hospital staff examining patients using mobile phone flashlights went viral on various social media platforms. According to officials, a sudden power outage and a delay in activating the backup generator caused major inconvenience to patients and doctors, especially those in the emergency ward. The incident was recorded on a mobile phone, and the footage quickly went viral on various social media platforms. Following the incident, health minister Damodar Raja Narasimha ordered an inquiry, which was conducted by the Sangareddy Collector and the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) Commissioner. The inquiry reportedly found that although a generator was available, there was a delay in operating it, leading to a temporary but serious disruption in emergency services. Meanwhile, the health department issued fresh instructions to all hospital superintendents across the state, mandating that generators must remain operational at all times and to ensure that no patient should suffer due to administrative negligence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Officials also warned of strict disciplinary action against those who fail to fulfil their responsibilities. Reacting to the incident, former health minister and BRS Siddipet MLA T Harish Rao criticised the govt. In a post on X, he said, "On one hand, there are power cuts, and on the other hand, the generator in the hospital is not working. Finally, it is a miserable situation to have to be treated in the cell phone light."

U'khand to train female volunteers for disaster management
Dehradun: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced the launch of Aapda Sakhi Yojana aimed at training female volunteers in early warning systems, first aid, relief and rescue operations, and psychological support. The scheme follows the model of Aapda Mitra Yojna and is designed to empower women and enhance the effectiveness of disaster management through active community participation. At a workshop to review preparations for Monsoon-2025, the CM emphasised that while natural disasters cannot be prevented, their impact can be significantly reduced through timely responses, vigilance, and coordinated rescue and relief efforts. "Coordination, alertness, and sensitivity among all departments are crucial for this," he added. Dhami underlined the vital role of community participation in disaster management, and said that without an aware, trained, and alert society, govt efforts alone are insufficient. "Residents are the first responders during disasters, making it essential to train disaster management committees, women's and youth groups, volunteer organisations," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Highlighting the importance of both proactive and reactive strategies, Dhami cited examples from 2024. He said, "During the Gaurikund cloudburst, a proactive approach helped save thousands of lives. Similarly, quick administrative action ahead of the landslide in Toli village, Tehri district, saved over 200 lives. Standing by those affected during disasters is our priority." He added that the state is focusing on adopting modern technologies and scientific methods. "Rapid response teams are being formed, and potential risk areas are identified through drone surveillance, GIS mapping, and satellite monitoring," he said. Chief secretary Anand Bardhan said that the workshop would further strengthen systems and make them more effective ahead of the upcoming monsoon. "Uttarakhand faces various types of disasters, and this year, the meteorological department has predicted an early and above-normal monsoon. We must make robust arrangements before the monsoon to reduce disaster impact."

Elon Musk allegedly fathered baby with Japanese pop star: Report
Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk is at the center of another personal and professional storm after a New York Times exposé published on May 30 alleged he secretly fathered a child with a Japanese pop star. According to conservative commentator Ashley St. Clair, who claims she also had a child with Musk in 2024, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO told her he had fathered children 'around the world,' including one with an unnamed Japanese singer. 'He made it seem like it was just his altruism,' St. Clair said, adding that Musk claimed he would give his sperm to anyone who wanted a child. St. Clair told the Times that Musk used encrypted messages to keep their relationship hidden, even after they attended Trump's election night party together at Mar-a-Lago. She said he offered her $15 million and $100,000 per month until their child turned 21 in exchange for her silence. After rejecting the deal, she sued Musk for paternity and child support. Musk responded by seeking a gag order, citing security concerns. The report also revisits earlier claims about Musk's recreational drug use, alleging he consumed large amounts of ketamine, ecstasy, and magic mushrooms, and regularly traveled with a pill box containing about 20 medications. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Musk, 53, has long promoted population growth and has now fathered at least 14 children with multiple partners. In addition to children with former partners Justine Wilson, Grimes, and Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis, Musk reportedly welcomed a child named Romulus with St. Clair and a fourth child, Seldon Lycurgus, with Zilis. According to an April report from the Wall Street Journal, Musk views his children as a 'legion,' a term referring to a Roman military unit, and even texted St. Clair: 'To reach legion-level before the apocalypse, we will need to use surrogates.' The Times report also alleges Musk has used his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to search for women willing to have his children. These revelations come just weeks after Musk stepped down from a brief government role at the White House's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to focus on his companies. Musk has not publicly responded to the allegations.
