4 of 6 suspects in cigarette theft in south Cebu fall

Authorities collared four of six suspects in an incident of theft in Malabuyoc town, southern Cebu Province. The four were reported to have stolen cartons of cigarettes in Barangay Poblacion Uno, Malabuyoc. The four were arrested in a hot pursuit operation conducted by personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cebu Provincial Field Unit, and police personnel from Toledo City and Malabuyoc. The four were identified positively as the persons caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera stealing three boxes of cigarettes from a grocery store in Malabuyoc. The loot was estimated to be worth P240,000. The suspects were nabbed in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. As of this writing, they are now under the custody of Malabuyoc Police. Charges are set to be filed against them.

Two people were killed while another was arrested in separate operations against illegal drugs and selling of firearms in Maguindanao provinces. Police and military personnel were about to serve an arrest warrant against a man who is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao del Sur. However, the operating team engaged the subject of the warrant and his companions in an exchange of fire, which resulted in the death of one of the suspects and the arrest of his companion. The subject of the warrant escaped and is being pursued, as of this writing. Seized from the suspects who were slain and arrested were a .45 pistol, a magazine, ammunition, and sachets of suspected shabu. Meanwhile, troops of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-2, personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and other police units conducted an entrapment operation against the alleged selling of firearms in Barira, Maguindanao del Norte. The target of the operation was identified as alias 'Rokkie,' who is facing charges for murder, frustrated murder, and robbery. Instead of surrendering, the suspect allegedly opened fire, prompting authorities to return fire. The suspect was killed during the encounter. According to the 6th Infantry Division (6ID), the operation was launched after an informant tipped authorities that the suspect was allegedly planning to sell firearms in the area. During the operation, authorities seized several firearms, including an M16 rifle, M14 rifle, several magazines, ammunition, a grenade, and a caliber .45 pistol. 6ID added that the suspect was said to be part of an armed group allegedly involved in illegal activities, including gun-for-hire, robbery-holdup, and illegal drug trade in the region. 'Investigation revealed that the rescued female victim and other Filipino workers of the alleged guerrilla POGO and scam hub were detained against their will, forced to work, and were not allowed to leave the house where they were working for the scam,' the CIDG said. Nine Chinese were arrested at an alleged Philippine offshore gaming operation and scam hub in Mandaue City, Cebu, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police said on Friday. The CIDG said the suspects were arrested for alleged human trafficking at the establishment inside a subdivision in Barangay Alang-alang on Wednesday. The raid on the POGO hub was launched after a Filipino victim asked to be rescued. 'Investigation revealed that the rescued female victim and other Filipino workers of the alleged guerrilla POGO and scam hub were detained against their will, forced to work, and were not allowed to leave the house where they were working for the scam,' the CIDG said. The arrested Chinese suspects failed to present passports and valid documents supporting their stay or work in the Philippines, according to the CIDG. Seized from the raid were various electronic devices, including 21 desktop computers, 40 cellular phones, one tablet, and electronic accessories, which were turned over to the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 7 for forensic examination. The suspects will be facing complaints for the violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 as amended by the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 and 2022, as well as immigration laws. 'This successful operation underscores the National Government's and PNP CIDG's intensified efforts against illegal POGOs and [internet gaming licensees], pursuant to Executive Order Number 74,' CIDG chief Police Brigadier General Romeo J. Macapaz said. 'Rest assured that your CIDG is unyielding in catching and cracking down on individuals and syndicates, local or foreign nationals, who are involved in all types of crimes in the country, including trafficking in persons and illegal operations of POGOs/IGLs,' he added.

Suspected communist terrorist group secretary nabbed in CDO

Authorities have arrested a suspected official of a communist terrorist group in Cagayan de Oro. In a statement on Sunday, the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) said an individual with the alias 'Kumander' was nabbed during a manhunt operation in Barangay Indahag. Supposedly the secretary of the group, Kumander was arrested for violating the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 and is facing two separate murder charges, multiple attempted homicide, and child abuse. The arrest warrants were issued by Regional Trial Courts in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte; Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; Tagum City, Davao del Norte; and Surallah, South Cotabato in 2022 and 2024. The 50-year-old suspect was identified as the number 5 regional most wanted person of Police Region Office 12 for violating the Anti-Terrorism Act. He is also the number 5 regional most wanted person of Police Region Office 11 for murder. During the operation, authorities confiscated one fragmentation grenade, one Colt caliber 45 pistol, one steel magazine, rounds of ammunition, two blasting caps, one detonating cord, and three identification cards. Government forces also arrested an alleged high-ranking leader of the New People's Army in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City. 2 arrested for selling unregistered Korean food products in QC

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two persons for allegedly selling unregistered Korean food and beverage products worth P200,000 in Novaliches, Quezon City. In a statement on Thursday, CIDG said authorities conducted a buy-bust operation at a certain Korean food mart in Barangay Talipapa. This resulted in the seizure of 58 boxes of assorted Korean products, including canned luncheon meat, coffee, soft drinks, and juices, that were allegedly not registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and traded without a License to Operate. Under the Food and Drug Administration Act, the manufacture, importation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, and transfer of health and food products without the required authorization are prohibited since quality and safety are not guaranteed.
