Emmerdale fans slam 'pathetic' villain amid shock exit

Crowley had blackmailed Joe into helping him steal money from millionaire Kim. However, as Crowley thought he had the upper hand with a paralysed Kim forced to tell him her bank details, she stabbed him with his own needle and revealed her plan. Drugged at Home Farm, after terrorising both Kim and Joe, Kim interrogated Crowley before giving him a chilling warning. She told him: 'If you even try to mess with us again, they'll never find your body. Nothing personal, it's purely business.' Since Crowley's reappearance in the soap in recent episodes, some fans have taken to Reddit to share their confusion around the villain. What viewers think of Dr Crowley on Reddit The Reddit thread entitled 'Does anyone else find Dr Crowley the least intimidating villain ever?' received plenty of replies in agreement. 'He's about as intimidating as a tin of baked beans,' one user wrote. 'Dr Crowley is the kind of guy you'd be happy going to the pub with, having a Sunday dinner and then watching the cricket,' another user added. Another said: "He's literally pathetic and all of Joe's 'pained expressions' can't save the scenes. Awful story arc." A fourth added: 'Yes. It's just comical. Recommended Reading: 'Crowley is like a pantomime villain, difficult to take seriously.' However, some viewers said that they had found the storyline to be 'intriguing', as one person added: 'He plays the role really well. And waking up on a surgeons table, being threatened to have your insides removed. I mean….' Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and can also be streamed on ITVX and YouTube.

But here are some of the darkest that had fans in shock... EastEnders: Tony grooming Whitney (2008-2009) - Tony King first appeared in Albert Square in 2008 as the boyfriend of Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer. But it was quickly revealed he was a paedophile who had been grooming vulnerable Whitney, Bianca's adopted stepdaughter from a previous relationship, since she was 12. The shocking storyline attracted more than 200 complaints within a week of it beginning. Whitney waited until her 16th birthday to reveal the truth to a horrified Bianca, who called the police. Emmerdale: Holly's drug addiction and shock death (2010-2016) - In 2010, Holly Barton (played by Sophie Powles) became Emmerdale's first teenage drug addict. The shocking storyline saw her taking cocaine on a night out before developing a deadly heroin habit. Parents John and Moira desperately tried to help get their daughter clean but when Holly returned in 2016, following a four-year absence, she quickly relapsed. Fans were left stunned and heartbroken when distraught Moira found Holly dead in her bed from a heroin overdose. Hollyoaks: Luke's rape (2000) - Actor Gary Lucy was just 17 when he took on this groundbreaking storyline, which saw his character Luke Morgan become soap's first male rape victim. Luke had endured a long-running bullying campaign by football rival Mark Gibbs - who raped him after Luke stood up to him. Luke was left suicidal following the brutal attack, before opening up to his brother Adam. Gibbs was sentenced to eight years in prison. Gary won the Best Actor gong at the British Soap Awards in 2000 for his performance. Coronation Street: Evil Richard Hillman (2001-2003) - Just a mere mention of 'Richard Hillman' is enough to send a shiver down the spines of soap fans. He is often ranked one of the most evil soap villains and it's not hard to see why. The smooth-talking financial adviser bashed his ex-wife Patricia over the head with a shovel. In a bid to keep his mother-in-law Audrey quiet, he set fire to her house. And when Maxine caught him trying to murder Emily Bishop, he took a crowbar to her head. He made his exit from the cobbles in 2003 when he drove Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, and her family into the canal. They survived, but he didn't. You brought him into our lives and once again it's me who had to pay the price. The first man I met after Will. I let my guard down and look what happens. Measles outbreak spurs urgent vaccination drive in Gauteng

The Gauteng Department of Health has intensified public health efforts in response to a surge in measles cases across Gauteng. Prof Talitha Crowley, a public health expert from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), has also urged a further scale-up of measles vaccinations to help curb the ongoing outbreak. Crowley, who is the academic division head at the School of Nursing, said Gauteng's vaccination coverage (reportedly under 75%) is well below the threshold to prevent outbreaks. 'To prevent any measles outbreak, we actually need less than 5% who are not vaccinated in a community. In other words, 95% vaccination coverage.' In Gauteng, a total of 181 laboratory-confirmed measles cases have been reported from January 1 to June 13, with many of these cases emanating from the Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni districts. 'In Gauteng, districts with high numbers of zero-dose children (those who have received no immunisations) may experience a surge in cases,' said Crowley. She noted that according to a vaccine hesitancy webinar conducted by the Department of Health last year, in some areas up to 22% of children were unvaccinated. 'Children are routinely vaccinated against measles at six and 12 months as part of South Africa's Expanded Programme on Immunisation. Catch-up doses are available for those who missed their vaccinations, with no upper age limit.' Despite being vaccine-preventable, measles continues to pose a serious health threat, particularly to young children and vulnerable communities. She warned that it is not just a childhood illness, but it is a highly contagious viral disease that can lead to severe complications and even death. It spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can linger in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours, making it alarmingly easy to contract. Symptoms typically appear seven to 14 days after exposure, beginning with fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. A few days later, a distinctive red rash emerges on the face and spreads across the body. 'By the time the rash appears, the person is already in the most contagious phase. Complications from measles can be devastating. The virus damages the lining of the skin, gut, lungs, eyes, and sometimes the liver and brain, while also weakening the immune system,' explained Crowley. 'This can lead to diarrhoea, pneumonia, blindness, encephalitis, and even death. Children under two, those who are malnourished, and immuno-suppressed individuals are especially at risk.' As for prevention, vaccination remains the most effective defence, said Crowley. 'One dose of the measles vaccine offers about 93% protection, and two doses increase this to around 97%.' While rare, vaccinated individuals can still contract measles, but their symptoms are usually mild and less likely to spread. Crowley advised: 'If symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately and inform your healthcare provider. Measles is a notifiable condition in South Africa. With vigilant immunisation efforts and public awareness, measles can be controlled and lives can be saved.' From January to June, 379 laboratory-confirmed measles cases and 409 rubella cases were reported by the Measles Reference Laboratory at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in South Africa. Measles surveillance using wastewater has identified evidence of measles predominance in Gauteng, with sporadic detections in other provinces.
