Alhilaliya Troupe Performs at Bayt al-Suhaymi

Yara Sameh The Bayt al-Suhaymi Creativity Center, located in al-Darb al-Asfar Lane in al-Gamaliyya in al-Muizz Street, will host a new performance by the Al-Hilaliya Troupe on Thursday at 8:00 PM. The performance is part of the efforts of the Cultural Development Fund, headed by architect Hamdi El-Sattouhi, to preserve oral heritage and revive folk arts. The event is part of the performances hosted by the center to represent the Hilaliya epic as one of the most prominent tributaries of Arab cultural memory. The act combines storytelling, singing, and movement in a theatrical scene inspired by folk tales and presented in a language capable of communicating with the audience. The Al-Hilaliya Troupe, founded by Shaima Refaat, is one of the few troupes dedicated to documenting and presenting the Bani Hilal epic in popular dramatic styles, combining singing and theatrical narration, with the participation of a number of artists who were raised in the traditions of the "Waw" art. The show presents the story of Rizq Ibn Nayel, one of the Bani Hilal knights, and his battle to restore the tribe's honor. It showcases concepts of courage, sacrifice, and the status of women in folk literature. This initiative reflects the Cultural Development Fund's commitment to providing exhibition spaces for folk arts, not only as a heritage, but also as a renewed bridge connecting the past to the present, keeping memories alive in the heart of the historic city. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Saudi fund unveils handicraft investment accelerators

RIYADH: Nama' Accelerators, a pioneering initiative to foster the growth of cultural enterprises, has been launched by the Saudi Cultural Development Fund in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Quality of Life Program. The project, featuring a comprehensive training and development program, will include several sector-specific tracks. The first of these is the flagship handicrafts track, with the aim of amplifying the economic, social and creative impact of the 2025 — Year of Handicrafts initiative. It targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises seeking to expand across 11 diverse fields within the sector, including pottery, textiles and woodworking. Benefits on offer include specialized training in modern craft techniques, intensive workshops on marketing and business management, and improved market access both locally and internationally. It also provides financial incentives to support sustainable growth and expansion. Through this inaugural track, Nama' Accelerators intends to transform the Kingdom's rich artisanal heritage into sustainable economic ventures that foster community development, encourage innovation within the handicraft industries and enrich the national identity. The Cultural Development Fund seeks to advance the handicrafts sector by maximizing its economic and social impact, fostering innovation across its diverse fields, and cultivating an entrepreneurial ecosystem that nurtures creativity and growth. Nama' Accelerators represents a strategic milestone in the fund's ambition to position itself as the financial center of excellence for the cultural sector. As a key financial enabler for entrepreneurs and enterprises, it fuels the sustainable and profitable growth of their ventures. The initiative also strengthens the fund's collaboration with key players across the cultural ecosystem, supporting its continued progress toward fulfilling the objectives of the National Culture Strategy within Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 framework. Khalid Al-Baker, CEO of the Quality of Life Program, told Arab News: 'Promoting and sustaining national culture hinges on transforming the cultural sector into an economically productive industry. This transformation involves expanding cultural offerings — including cultural days, events, and activities — and streamlining the permit issuance process for cultural projects.' He added that, as part of the Quality of Life Program's efforts to fulfill Vision 2030's objectives: 'We have implemented programs targeting these key pathways, including the launch of Nama' Accelerators.' Nama' Accelerators will actively elevate the role of handicrafts in society, transforming them from museum artifacts into a vibrant, economically sustainable sector. The initiative promotes creativity and innovation while safeguarding a living cultural heritage for current and future generations, Al-Baker said.

Saudi Arabia's CDF unveils major film financing framework at Cannes

During the event, CDF announced a significant expansion of its role in supporting film projects, introducing a comprehensive financial excellence framework. Saudi Arabia's Cultural Development Fund (CDF), the Kingdom's key financial engine for the cultural sector, hosted a high-profile roundtable and networking lunch at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, bringing together global industry leaders, studio executives, filmmakers, producers and financiers. The event, titled Collaborate and Invest: Shaping the Future of the Film Industry, served as a platform to explore financing strategies that support sustainable growth and promote international collaboration, in line with Saudi Arabia's ambition to become a global hub for filmmaking. During the gathering, CDF announced a significant expansion of its support for the film industry, introducing a new financial excellence framework designed to streamline funding processes and improve access across the entire film value chain. Developed in partnership with stakeholders in the Saudi film ecosystem, the framework aims to reduce processing times for successful funding applications by 60% and enhance overall transparency and efficiency. Key elements of the initiative include clear eligibility criteria, a well-defined evaluation process to guide funding decisions, and a fully integrated digital system for managing applications—from submission to tracking and approval. These changes aim to simplify the funding journey for filmmakers and industry professionals while ensuring fair and consistent decision-making. This announcement underscores CDF's commitment to accelerating the growth of Saudi Arabia's film sector in alignment with Vision 2030's broader goals of economic diversification and cultural development. By reinforcing the infrastructure for film financing and positioning the Kingdom as a globally connected, investor-friendly market for creative content, the Cultural Development Fund is laying the groundwork for Saudi Arabia to emerge as a major player on the international film stage.
