Can this £350 at-home microneedling treatment really give you smoother, tighter skin?

When the likes of Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston swear by a cosmetic treatment for its skin-smoothing and tightening results, a beauty buzz inevitably follows. That's just what happened with radio frequency (RF) microneedling. The non-surgical treatment is essentially two skin -rejuvenating technologies (microneedling and radiofrequency therapy) combined. It involves an in-clinic aesthetic practitioner using a device on the skin that creates micro-wounds with tiny needles, while also heating the skin with radio waves to trigger the healing response. Essentially, the treatment boosts the production of collagen and elastin – the proteins that smooth, strengthen and firm our complexions. It has become an A-lister go-to for its age-defying effectiveness, resurfacing and tightening the complexion. But before you book a session at your nearest salon, there are some drawbacks. Primarily, it's very expensive – just one session can set you back hundreds of pounds. It's not painless, either, and there are side effects such as dryness, redness and swelling. So I was fascinated – and frankly, a little alarmed – when I heard beauty device specialist CurrentBody claimed to have packaged this tech into an at-home treatment. On top of that, they claim it comes without any of the in-salon downsides. There was only one thing to do: I simply had to try it for myself. How I tested CurrentBody recommends performing the RF microneedling treatment once a week for eight weeks, so that's exactly what I did. Every Sunday, I used the device on the signs of ageing that bother me the most. I applied the forehead microneedling patch on my deep frown line between my eyebrows, and the eye microneedling patch to my puffy under-eye area. I left them on for more than two hours (as recommended) before using the radiofrequency device on each area, as well as on my sagging jawline. During testing, I assessed the device on the following criteria: Ease of use: I assessed ease of operation and how long it took to use the device per session. Results: I considered whether the treatment delivered noticeable improvements in the appearance of my skin. Value for money: At £350, the treatment is an investment, so I also considered whether the results justify the splurge. Aldi's £13 LED mask returns to shelves– but how does it compare to a £400 one?

Aldi's LED mask is returning to the middle aisle after sell-out success– but does it offer more than just pretty lighting? Aldi is pretty much the most reliable place at the moment to score serious bargain beauty gadgets, and now, its Special Buy skin pampering range is making a comeback in stores from Thursday 31st July, with prices starting at £3.99. But the headline act? The sell-out LED face mask, returning at £12.99. Yes, you did read that right. If you're into skincare tools but don't want to drop half a month's rent on one, you might want to plan a dash to the middle aisle very quickly. Aldi 's version offers seven different LED light settings (the colours each target different concerns like redness, dullness and fine lines), comes with a built-in lithium battery so it's fully wireless, and looks surprisingly sleek for something under £13. It's basically a sheet mask's flashier, more functional older sister. But, the question you probably want to know: does it offer any skincare benefits, or is it emitting some pretty looking light? Comparing Aldi's LED mask to Currentbody's £399 mask If you're wondering how it stacks up to the likes of the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask, the gold standard LED option that regularly features in editor round-ups and beauty awards, the short answer is: it's not the same, but it's not pretending to be either. In fact, its closest rival is Amazon's Hangsun Light Therapy Acne Treatment LED Mask, £34.99 – much closer in price. CurrentBody's cult mask comes in at £399 and for that, you're getting some serious science. It uses clinically backed red (633nm) and near-infrared (830nm) light wavelengths – the kind dermatologists actually recommend – to visibly reduce wrinkles, boost collagen and improve skin elasticity. There is also published research to back up claims of 30% fewer wrinkles in just four weeks, and the flexible silicone frame means it hugs your face like a second skin, getting light to exactly where it needs to go. Aldi's version, on the other hand, is more about accessibility than advanced tech. It still offers multi-coloured LED therapy (including red, blue and green lights), but it's less intense in output, and doesn't have the same deep tissue penetration. You won't get the same precision or clinical results, but what you will get is a great way to dip a toe into LED skincare without commitment or cost anxiety. It's wireless, has adjustable light modes and does what most people want a beginner LED mask to do: help calm inflammation and boost glow. Think of the CurrentBody mask as a long-term investment and Aldi's is more of a skincare stocking filler. One is a high-performance tool, the other is an easy, affordable intro. But both tap into the same mood: doing skincare smarter, at home, on your own time. If you're just LED-curious, Aldi's mask is the one to grab before it disappears again. For less than the cost of a bottle of cheap skincare serum, it's a beauty win you don't need to think twice about. Just be quick because you know how Specialbuys go.

How To Use LED Light For Healthy Hair Growth – And The Best Ones To Try

With the 'skinification' of haircare, LED therapy – a non-invasive treatment that uses varying light wavelengths and depths to boost skin health – is now being heralded as a hair remedy. 'I'm a huge fan of LED. It has had fantastic results for people with chronic scalp conditions like androgenetic alopecia and frontal fibrosing alopecia among other scalp and hair-loss issues in my clinic,' says Claire Fullam, clinical trichologist and founder of Remi Scalp Care. 'With the majority of hair loss and scalp conditions fuelled by inflammation, LED is brilliant as it hugely reduces inflammation, more than most topical products,' she adds. And because LED increases blood flow, it also has impressive results for hair growth. 'Your blood transfers hormones, nutrients and oxygen into the follicle. Increasing those opportunities is vital for stable growth, particularly as we age,' explains Fullam. The specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light work particularly well to stimulate the mitochondria (the energy of our cells) within each hair follicle. But it's not about turning on some kind of 'bionic hair growth', says hairstylist Tom Smith. 'It is more about improving hair quality. A good way to know if LED light might work for you is to understand if your hair has been better at some point in your life, because LED won't fundamentally change your hair type, texture or natural density, but will instead give hair the boost it needs to get back to its best. Over time, it helps to extend the hair's growth phase and improves the way each strand is formed. Hair feels thicker, behaves better and is more resistant to breakage.' But as with most beauty fixes, consistency is key. Results are visible after 16 weeks of regular use. Team ELLE loves CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet and the HigherDose Red Light Hat. 'Ten minutes a day, every day, is needed, and you'll see a change in how your hair behaves after a few months. For those of us who demand a lot from our hair (colour-ing, heat styling, extensions, life stress), LED is one of the most intelligent ways to future-proof it,' says Smith. Current Body is often our first port of call LED devices as the brand does thorough clinical trials and before and afters. In its clinical testing, this helmet shows an increase in hair growth rate by 128% in 12 weeks, with consistent use. The 620-660nm red light wavelengths helps to encourage blood flow, minimise inflammation and keep hair loss at bay. It comes in two sizes to fit all head shapes, and sits comfortably on the scalp for a full-coverage treatment. A clever, approachable way to using a red light therapy device on your scalp, this cap makes it easy to wear it while you're out and about - no more excuses for skipping a session. According to the brand's studies, 86% of users noticed hair growth after 16 weeks. Just pop it on, and go. Hairstylists agree that regular head massage can do wonders for your scalp health as it helps to encourage circulation and blood flow. Tapping into the benefits of massage, Foreo's LED device feature T-Sonic pulsations. Designed to improve the absorption of products, it works best when paired with a hair growth serum. It feels soothing after a long day, and can be used both in and out of the shower. US brand Solaris Labs creates future-facing devices that fit seamlessly into your daily routine - because at-home tools deliver better results when used everyday. This hairbrush delivers blue and red light therapy, along with gentle vibrations through its silicone bristles so you can get right into the scalp. The added blue light is useful for those with scalp spots, too. If you're looking to invest in a device that works for scalp, face and body, try this red light dome by Current Body. This gadget, which is also used in professional spaces, combines red, blue and infrared therapies to manage inflammation, breakouts and yes, the fine lines on the rest of your face and body. It is a more luxurious option, but it's certainly worth considering if you want one device that can be used top to toe. ‘I found an innovative red light LED hair brush that's perfect for encouraging faster hair growth'

Shopping Writer Meghan has found an red light hair brush that's said to help encourage hair to grow back faster and healthier - and it comes with a budget-friendly price tag Red light therapy is all the rage at the moment, as beauty buffs bask in its benefits for the skin, especially when it comes to rejuvenating a dull complexion and combating signs of ageing. That said, red light doesn't just stop there. It's been proven that red light therapy can also help stimulate the scalp, helping hair follicles to reproduce faster and healthier. Red light can help reverse hair loss and encourage hair to grow back fuller, stronger, and shinier than before. CurrentBody, a brand known for its LED red light beauty gadgets, offers an LED Hair Growth Helmet that, with regular use, can increase hair growth rate by 128% in 12 weeks. That said, this CurrentBody helmet retails for the hefty price of £649.99. But if you're looking for a way to add red light to your haircare routine without blowing the bank, this LED hair brush that I found may be just the ticket. This StylPro Root Renew Hairbrush is a red light therapy hairbrush designed for daily use. It increases volume and creates polished touch-ups to your hairdo. What's more, this hair brush retails for a fraction of the price of other red light therapies, selling for £39.99 at Lookfantastic. It's also available from Boots, Next, Superdrug, and Amazon for the same price. This StylePro Root Renew Hairbrush is thoughtfully designed with both beauty and functionality in mind. The innovative brush effortlessly nurtures the scalp to promote optimal conditions for healthy-looking hair growth, using red light that stimulates the blood flow of oxygen and essential nutrients to hair follicles, increasing hair density and faster growth. Boasting a handy shape that ensures targeted treatment for optimal scalp coverage in patches that need attention. Perfect for busy mornings, midday touch-ups, or post-work transitions, the Root Renew Hairbrush is a great choice for both at-home and on-the-go use. Combining haircare and smart technology, the red-light therapy brush has a 655mm LED light and soothing vibrations to help reduce the rate of hair loss while creating a sleeker, rejuvenated finish. What's great about this hairbrush is that it's completely cordless and capable of being recharged periodically. So you can easily throw this small gadget in your bag to use when you're outside of the house or while you're at home, going about your everyday chores. Equipped with 49x LED Bristles that make this brush feel like your average hairbrush, the StylPro Root Renew promotes hair growth and improves hair health by stimulating the scalp, boosting circulation, and enhancing follicle activity with expert-recommended wavelengths. Designed with ergonomically curved bristles, this Silicone brush comfortably contours to the scalp, providing targeted therapy while ensuring a gentle, effective massage for all hair types, whether thick, fine, or textured. Its customizable approach ensures a comfortable and effective treatment for everyone, promoting hair health without compromise, while stimulating hair follicles and encouraging thicker, healthier hair. I can't attest to the long-term benefits of this hairbrush yet, but plenty of shoppers have been quick to sing its praises. One 5-star reviewer raves: "Love this brush I use it at night so relaxing. It also seems to make my hair feel like there's more of it lol. As I'm a fine haired gal this makes me very happy. Can't comment on hair growth as haven't been using it long enough." Another buyer beams: "Great, easy tool to use, been using it for a few weeks and seeing small improvements to thicker hair growing from my scalp!" Further accolades come from this customer who shares: "Amazing!! I have never tried anything like this before, and it has done wonders for my hair health! After only a couple of months of using, I have seen new baby hair growth and less breakage around my scalp!" And a further shopper chimes in: "I've been using this every other day and it's really relaxing on a night before bed. The vibration gives a really lovely massage and relieves any head tension. After around 2 weeks of use I've noticed less hair is coming out when I brush. Excited to see the prolonged results!"

Product prices and offer details are not assured, and should be confirmed independently with the retailer. Learn more When it comes to my night-time beauty routine, I like to keep things simple and fuss-free. With as few as three steps, my routine consists of cleansing my skin, patting in some toner and slugging my face with moisturiser. However, there's a new step that I've recently adopted, and it has changed the game for my skin. Introducing Red Light Therapy (RLT), also known as LED-light therapy. RLT is the latest wellness trend that has been making waves all over my social media. Ever come across a creepy-looking video of someone wearing a mask with red LED lights illuminating their face? That's what LED-light therapy is. While it isn't a new concept, it's become an increasingly popular at-home beauty treatment. Admittedly, I was one of many sceptics that thought, 'What good could popping a mask clad with mini red LED lights do for your skin?'. That was until I tried out the popular CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 * – now, I'm converted for life. WHAT IS THE CURRENTBODY LED LIGHT THERAPY FACE MASK: SERIES 2? A massive upgrade to its predecessor, the CurrentBody Led Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 2 features 236 LEDs emitting three different wavelengths. They include red light (633nm), near-infrared (830nm) and deep near-infrared (1072nm) which help improve the appearance of dull or uneven skin. The mask itself has been redesigned to better fit all face types for improved coverage. It includes new multiway straps that are completely adjustable for a secure fit and maximum comfort, a clip-on controller for hands-free convenience, and optional black silicone eye inserts to protect your eyes and make reading, scrolling, or watching TV with the mask on easier. Every CurrentBody LED mask comes with a unique Veritace® NFC card that allows you to see every stage of quality testing that your (yes, your) red light mask has undergone? Wow! Now that you're somewhat educated on the beauty device, let's get into my 100 per cent real and honest thoughts. THE VERDICT: IS THE CURRENTBODY LED LIGHT THERAPY FACE MASK: SERIES 2 WORTH THE PRICE TAG? Being a complete newbie to the world of LED-light therapy, I had zero expectations when it came to beauty-tech gadgets like this one. After using this face mask for a little over three weeks, I am pleased to say that it has helped improve the appearance of my skin despite it being early days (Currentbody says to give it around eight weeks to really start seeing the full effects). For those that are concerned about their eyes, it comes with optional eye inserts to block out the light from your eyes so they make it easier to see and also help the mask fit better around that area. I appreciate that the mask is made from flexible silicone, which enhances comfort, and has been designed in a way that provides coverage for the nose, lips and chin. However, it's a tad too big so my lips don't quite match up to the lip cut-out. But that's pretty much my only gripe. What makes it most impressive, though, is that it's built with 236 LEDs (as opposed to the Series 1 with 132 LEDs) and emits three different types of wavelengths. I like to use it every other night for 10 minutes (the recommended amount of time), and it's honestly one of those little luxuries that I look forward to – it's the perfect time for me to truly unwind in bed while watching a movie, reading on my kindle, cuddling with my furbabies and more. Retailing for a hefty $679.99, the seemingly important question is, 'Is it worth the price?' To that, I say yes. You're essentially paying for a top-of-the-line model that is well-made, comfortable, easy to use and performs well. So there's no doubt you'll be using it very often, resulting in low cost per use! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ARE LED FACE MASKS SAFE AND CAN I USE AN LED FACE MASK EVERY DAY? When used according to the instructions and after consulting a healthcare professional, LED therapy is generally considered safe for most healthy adults. Usually, it's recommended to use this product three to five times per week, for about ten minutes at a time. It is also important to note that regular use may help improve the appearance of dull or uneven skin tone. However, individual results vary. LED face masks are best used on clean skin, so make sure to thoroughly wash your face and dry it before using it. HOW DO I CLEAN MY LED FACE MASK? Cleaning your LED mask it really easy. You can use a lint-free cloth or a water-based wipe to wipe it down. If you have any stains that won't come off easily, give them a gentle rub with 70 per cent rubbing alcohol.
