From Kirkdale to Premier League Success With Liverpool: The Curtis Jones' Story
Last Updated: Curtis Jones, a boyhood Red from Kirkdale, joined Liverpool's academy at nine and debuted in 2019. His key role in 2024-25 helped Liverpool win the Premier League title. Curtis Jones' rise from the streets of Kirkdale to lifting the Premier League trophy with Liverpool is a story rooted in talent, resilience, and local pride. A boyhood Red, Jones joined Liverpool's academy at the age of nine and quickly gained attention for his flair, creativity, and confidence on the ball. His journey was never about shortcuts—it was about steady progress and seizing the right moments. Speaking exclusively to JioHotstar, ' I feel like that goes down as one of the most special things that I felt there, off of the fans. It goes back to feeling the love and appreciation of the fans." 'That's something that, you know, that I've always said: if I can stay here and play and be a huge part of this team, and a huge part of this club, and the foundation of the club, and to have young kids who come and point at me and be the one, 'I want to be like him,' that's what I want to try and do. Jones made his senior debut in January 2019 during an FA Cup tie against Wolves. But it was his stunning winning goal against Everton in the FA Cup a year later that truly announced his arrival. The 2024–25 season marked a turning point. Amid injuries and a transitional period for the club, Jones stepped up with consistent performances, showcasing composure, vision, and leadership. His contribution proved vital as Liverpool mounted a relentless campaign and clinched the Premier League title for the second time under Klopp. Lifting the trophy as a homegrown player was a full-circle moment for Jones. 'I mean, it's everything. As a kid, it doesn't matter which team you are at, it's always your dream. But to do it here, and I'm a Scouse lad, and I've come all the way through, and I'm standing here now, and this is where it was all happening," he stated. 'Now I'm around in the first team, and I'm playing games, and I'm a champion of the Premier League. I've won it twice and… so yeah. I'm standing here, I'm made up, I'm happy, but I want to achieve even more. So I'm enjoying it now, but I'm thinking again about the next step." Hopes are high for the current crop including Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni - who both featured extensively for Arne Slot's side in their preseason campaign. 🔴 Others - such as Ben Doak and Owen Beck enjoyed very good campaigns out on loan last season and in Beck's case his development will continue with another temporary spell at Derby County next season. Koumas deemed an exceptional talent The loan pathway has proven to be fruitful for the Reds - and we can expect to see Lewis Koumas follow that same template once again in 2025/26. Koumas, 19, was a loan star for Stoke City last season in difficult circumstances - but still racked up close to 50 appearances. Norwich City and Sheffield United have been mooted as potential destinations for the Wales international in the season upcoming and right now he is featuring for the club's under-21s. Liverpool made a big impact by signing Rob Page as the new coach for the U21s - with the Welshman coaching his country to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Rob Page impressed with Koumas The U21s played against their Hull counterparts over the weekend - with Armin Pecsi and Will Wright gaining their first minutes for the club. Koumas was also in the lineup - impressing once again with his vision and trickery. Ahead of the encounter - Page paid tribute to Koumas - telling the club's official website that Liverpool had an EXCEPTIONAL talent on their hands. 'I want to mention Lewis Koumas, who has been exceptional in pre-season, and he triggers the press first just with his energy and his enthusiasm,' he said. 'I want to work with players like that because then you can be more on the front foot and play a more attack-minded game.' © IMAGO

Liverpool star admits Florian Wirtz will face unique challenge this season
Curtis Jones has said it's important for Florian Wirtz to immediately settle at Liverpool and not feel weighed down by his record-breaking price tag. Liverpool paid an initial $135 million (£100M) for the German last month, with a further $22M (£16M) in potential add-ons to be triggered. Should those additional fees be met, Wirtz will become the most expensive signing in Premier League history. But that doesn't appear to have affected the German international, who is used to operating on the biggest stages. The former Bundesliga champion has settled quickly into life at Anfield and has made an instant contribution to the team in pre-season. He was perhaps the standout player for Liverpool in Saturday's 4-2 loss to AC Milan. READ MORE: Jeremie Frimpong says 3 things have helped him settle at Liverpool since transfer READ MORE: Harvey Elliott praises 'fearless' Rio Ngumoha after impressive Liverpool display vs AC Milan Speaking after that game, Jones said that a good start is important for Wirtz ahead of his first campaign in the Premier League. 'Yeah, obviously he's a new lad. There's a label on him that we've paid this price for him,' the midfielder told the Anfield Wrap. 'But it's about just bringing him in and letting him feel calm, at home, and just let him go and play his game and not think, 'I've been bought for this price.' 'Of course, he will know that he needs to help the team with goals and assists, but first of all, just come into the team and be yourself. We've seen that all week with him. 'As everybody already sees, you know, he can score goals, he can assist. He's an exciting player as well. 'But on top of all that as well, he's an unbelievable lad. He's got a smile on his face, and he just enjoys the game.' Wirtz is one of seven new arrivals this summer - and more are expected before the window closes in September. Jones feels it's a welcoming group to join. 'He [Wirtz] has already found his feet, he's comfortable here, and the same with all the other lads who have signed, they've come in and are just themselves. 'I bang on about this thing all the time, that it's an unbelievable team, but it's more like a family as well. If you're a young lad getting signed, you come in and have got a bunch of lads that are just all about having a laugh as well at the same time, so you just feel at home. 'Then obviously it helps the lads as well, so the lads who are coming into the team are going to be a huge help and hopefully we can go and win even more.' Jones, like most in the Liverpool team, played 45 minutes in Hong Kong and was asked how his fitness levels are at this stage of the summer. 'I felt good, actually. Obviously, it was a mixed team as well. The young lads were in there, which obviously helps [them] for the experience of that. 'Unfortunately, we obviously lost the game, which was a shame. We've got to start at a place and that's where it is at the minute.'
