Kalindi Kunj sees heavy snarls as kanwar yatra curbs kick in

Noida: Commuters travelling from Delhi to Noida were caught in a gridlock at Kalindi Kunj crossing on Tuesday morning, after traffic police shut two of the four lanes of the Noida-bound carriageway between the Okhla Barrage and Okhla Bird Sanctuary to facilitate the movement of kanwar pilgrims. Tailbacks stretched all the way to Shaheen Bagh during peak rush hour, with many officegoers reporting delays of over 30 minutes. Rajeev Sharma, a private firm employee who commutes from Sarita Vihar to Noida Sector 63, said the journey took him double the usual time. Closing lanes during peak hours without proper diversion plans is just poor planning," he said. Another commuter, Nitin Kumar, said the authorities must find a balance. "Religious processions are important, but what about the needs of daily commuters? For a week, we'll all suffer," he said. Delhi traffic police officials said the restrictions, which will remain in place till Mahashivratri on July 23, are aimed at ensuring safe passage of pilgrims headed towards Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad. Pilgrims returning from Haridwar typically travel from Mayur Vihar to Kalindi Kunj via Shani Temple and the bird sanctuary. "We have deployed additional personnel to regulate traffic movement. Commuters are advised to use the DND Flyway or the metro instead for commuting during the period to avoid snarls," a traffic officer in Noida told TOI. Kalindi Kunj is one of the busiest routes linking southeast Delhi and Noida. With two lanes towards Noida barricaded, traffic has been squeezed onto the remaining two lanes in the opposite direction, leading to bottlenecks at the Kalindi Kunj intersection and Okhla Bird Sanctuary stretch. DCP (traffic), Noida, Lakhan Singh Yadav said that traffic police personnel have been stationed at all key junctions along the kanwar route. "The number of pilgrims using this stretch is expected to rise from Wednesday. Nearly 1,000 kanwar pilgrims pass through Okhla Bird Sanctuary daily," the DCP said.

DCP-rank officer to probe sale of BMC land by sr civic official ‘squatting on post'

Mumbai: Amid charges that a BMC officer was involved in a purported sale this year of 10 Borivli plots owned by and in possession of the civic body and that she is reluctant to give up the post of assistant municipal commissioner despite being promoted as deputy municipal commissioner (DMC), industries minister Uday Samant said in the legislative council on Tuesday that a DCP-rank officer will probe the alleged land scam and the civic official will be directed to take her new charge immediately. The issue was raised by Congress's Bhai Jagtap through a calling attention motion. He pointed out that Saibaba Nagar layout in Borivli, spanning 4.7 acres, was developed in the late 1970s. The layout has 18 plots, of which 10 were handed over to BMC. In Development Plan-2034, these 10 plots were shown as being reserved for a higher education institute, a municipal school, a dispensary and a playground. On the remaining eight plots, there are 16 residential buildings that went in for redevelopment, which was stayed by the civic official, said Jagtap. "In 2021, when I raised the issue with the then municipal commissioner, Iqbal Chahal, and pointed out that even after 40 years, the property registration card (PRC) of these 10 plots did not bear the name of BMC, he directed the then assistant municipal commissioner to ensure that the process was completed within seven days and that the PRC reflected the name of BMC as the owner," said the Congress MLC. "However, early this year, all 10 plots were sold in connivance with the ward officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Serbia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House Search Now Undo She was promoted as DMC, but has refused to take charge and continues in the post. "The Mumbai police commissioner will be given instructions to this effect [on Tuesday] itself," he said. On the redevelopment being stayed, he said there were other legal issues as well, which were being sorted out with the relevant authorities.

Drug plot deepens: Sons of two senior Telangana cops nabbed in Kompally racket

Hyderabad: After uncovering the involvement of a senior intelligence officer's son Rahul Teja in the Kompally drug racket, EAGLE sleuths have now arrested another high-profile accused — P Mohan, son of a deputy commissioner of police (DCP)-rank officer. While Teja was arrested last week and the development kept under wraps, Mohan was apprehended on Monday. Police say both are not just abusers but also active peddlers in the drug network. Mohan has been named as A-2 in the case, following prime accused Surya Annamaneni, from whose possession cocaine was seized near his restaurant in Kompally. According to investigators, Surya and his associates regularly gathered at pubs, farmhouses, and other locations to consume drugs. 'P Mohan used to procure cocaine and OG weed from a Nigerian national named Jerry, based in Bengaluru, and supply it to Surya,' police said in their remand report submitted to the court. Rahul Teja, Surya, Yashwanth Ramana, S Navdeep Reddy, Surabhi Jaswanth, and D Pavan Kumar were described by police as 'influential individuals.' Citing the risk of them influencing the investigation, authorities urged the court last week to deny them bail. The court remanded all accused to judicial custody. Trip to Thailand In May 2024, Surya is believed to have travelled to Thailand with friends, during which he came into contact with a Nigerian dealer named Nick, who lives in Delhi. Nick reportedly shipped drugs to Hyderabad via courier and shared tracking details with the group. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'These six accused, along with others, maintained a network through which they procured drugs such as cocaine, OG weed, and ecstasy pills from their sources and distributed them among themselves and their acquaintances, who are also accused in this case,' police told the court while seeking the remand of Teja and others. So far, EAGLE officials have arrested eight individuals, including Mohan.
