Dupont Circle park to close during World Pride, Park Service says

The historic Dupont Circle park at the center of Washington's historic LGBTQ neighborhood will be closed off by the federal government during next weekend's WorldPride parade and parties, another blow to a celebration that has gotten off to a rocky start. Mike Litterst, a spokesman for the National Park Service, said in a statement that the decision was made at the request of D.C. police 'to keep the community and visitors safe and protect one of D.C.'s most treasured public spaces.' Mayor Muriel Bowser's office and D.C. police referred all questions to the National Park Service.

Another killer who drank from an old well of hatred

It's hard not to think that many in this city live with death as their constant companion. On Sunday evening, D.C. police responded to the sounds of gunshots on Benning Road SE and found 36-year-old Ryan Matthews unconscious and not breathing. D.C. Fire and EMS pronounced him dead. Tuesday afternoon, police responded to report of a shooting on 26th Street NE and, upon arriving, located 31-year-old Kian-Wayne Magruder suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. D.C.
