Peacemaker season 2 finally has a teaser trailer – here are 3 things you need to know about the hit Max show's return
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. It's official: Peacemaker season 2 will be streaming on Max from Thursday, August 21 at 9.00pm ET/PT. John Cena will be back as the titular hero, and many villains' butts will be kicked. The official synopsis says: "The new season follows Christopher 'Chris' Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost." Season 1 stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee and Robert Patrick are all back, and this time around they're joined by a new cast that includes by Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, and Tim Meadows. As you'll see from the trailer below, the second season looks set to deliver one of the best Max show's trademark mix of whip-cracking action and whip-smart wisecracking. Here's what you need to know. One of the problems facing season 2 is that it's in a different universe to season 1: James Gunn set Peacemaker season 1 in the DC Extended Universe, which is now gone, so season 2 takes place in the DCU. That raises lots of questions, which we've explained in our in-depth hub (linked above). It looks like at least part of the answer is at the end of the trailer, which shows not only Peacemaker but also... Peacemaker. If they aren't the DCU Peacemaker and the DCEU Peacemaker then we'll be amazed. In the trailer we see Peacemaker auditioning very uncomfortably for Maxwell Lord's Justice League, while Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl look on. Presumably this was filmed during production of Superman, which means we shouldn't expect them to play a huge part in season 2. But it's interesting because this Justice League is much more fun than the DCEU one, especially in its portrayal of Hawkgirl. It looks like Flagg Sr. is going to be a key character in season 2 after his starring role in the Creature Commandos animated series, and he's got very good reasons to go after Peacemaker: in The Suicide Squad (spoiler alert!), Peacemaker killed his son. That makes him more nuanced than the usual superhero show villain: he's not a monster; he's a grieving parent. Going by this new trailer there's lots to be excited about, so August can't come soon enough. Season 2 of Peacemaker will be streaming on Max from August 21 and will see Rick Flag Sr "on a mission" for justice. The first season of Peacemaker is streaming on Max in the US and Now in the UK. Peacemaker season 2 release date finally confirmed as new footage of popular HBO TV show revealed in Max sizzle reel trailer What is the release date and time for The Last of Us season 2 episode 5? New Insider Reports Indicate The DCU's ‘Superman' Movie Is Good
Superman This summer will mark the official launch of the DCU with Superman. Well, the official launch other than an animated series about murderous monsters (Creature Commandos). The live-action kick-off stars the most iconic hero in the world and early indications seem to be that it's…quite good. There have been some spins that have tried to paint 'troubled production' in Superman's final days, but it has only filmed 'pickups' in Atlanta recently, not actual reshoots. An additional composer was brought in, David Fleming, to join John Murphy, but both have music in the film and it's not as if one erased the other. One big sign that the movie is solid, other than Gunn saying so himself, is that the entire, finished movie is set to be ready to go as of next Friday, according to THR's Heat Vision. Getting that in a full five weeks ahead of release is reportedly a sign of 'studio satisfaction.' Besides that, there are the one-off tweets here and there about leaked test screenings. Here's filmmaker Joe Russo (not that one) on Twitter, retweeting the production news: 'Can confirm. I have a friend who saw it in April and he said it delivers. You might even say James Gunn's SUPERMAN is… super good.' It always seemed likely that Gunn would land the plane when it came to Superman, as all we have to do is look at his other superhero projects and see that he simply has not missed with any of them so far, a big reason he was tapped for the DCU job in the first place. Here's the line-up of his DC and Marvel projects: Not a bad score in there, and with three films above a 90%. Gunn's Suicide Squad is tied as the second-highest-scored DCEU film with Shazam! and just below Wonder Woman's 93%. The point of all this is that it seems pretty unlikely that Superman is bad, whether it clocks in with an 80%, 90% or more. Marketing is starting to spool up for the film, which releases July 11, and a video went viral this week of David Corenswet in costume talking and playing with children on set after filming with them, drawing many comments of 'this is the 'real' Superman' and such. Check it out below, and we'll stay tuned for more news ahead of release. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

James Gunn Debunks Superman Rumor About The Runtime While Offering Thrilling Update About The DC Flick
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. If there's one movie I'm looking forward to on the 2025 movie schedule more than any other, it has to be James Gunn's upcoming Superman. To be sure, I'm far from certain the movie is going to be great, but there's a lot of reason to believe it will be, and the potential for something really special is quite high. This makes it very exciting to learn that the movie, set for release in a little over a month, is very nearly done. In a post on Threads, James Gunn did what he does best: debunking the latest rumor regarding one of his films. In this case, it came from a fan asking about an official runtime for Superman, listed as two hours and two minutes. Gunn said the official runtime for the film hasn't been set yet, for the simple reason that the movie isn't actually finished. However, that day is very close as there are apparently only a couple of VFX shots remaining to finish. Gunn said… That is not correct. It's almost totally locked - meaning we're just finishing a couple VFX shots over the weekend - but that's not the running time. The runtime itself isn't particularly important. The movie will be as long as it needs to be. Given that we've seen more and more blockbusters with runtimes significantly higher than two hours, it's unlikely the movie will be edited down more than James Gunn wants. While there was a time when we might have seen a movie with broad appeal edited down for no reason beyond a desire to hit a certain runtime, that's less likely today. What's important is that Superman is literally days away from being completed. It doesn't change how many days I need to wait to see it, of course, but the fact that it's nearly done makes it feel like Superman is just a little bit closer. Max: Save Up To $41 On Annual PlansThe first part of James Gunn's new DCU, Creature Commandoes, is already available on Max, and there you can also watch every previous Superman movie to get ready for the new one. It's probably worth signing up for a year just to be able to watch all the DC content. Alternatively, its cheapest plan starts from $9.99 a month. I'd always recommend getting Max as a part of the bundle with Disney Plus and Hulu, though, starting from $16.99 a Deal Superman will make the big screen debut of the new DCU under James Gunn, and with numerous DC Comics characters other than the Man of Steel set to appear, the movie will certainly open up many different directions for a cinematic universe to go. When Iron Man first arrived, we didn't know what Marvel was planning, but with DC's new universe, we know what's happening, which makes Superman's arrival all the more exciting and important. Superman is going to be a big movie when it hits theaters in July. Whether it's a great film or a major box office hit remains to be seen, but success or failure, Superman is going to make a considerable impact. I can't wait to see which it is. How long I'm sitting in the theater is the least of my concerns.

James Gunn Announces Global SUPERMAN Tour With New Promo and David Corenswet Tells His Fun Casting Story — GeekTyrant
James Gunn is taking Superman on the road. With anticipation building for the debut of the new DCU, Gunn just announced an international 'World Tour' for Superman , sharing the news through a new promo video posted on his X and Instagram accounts. The short teaser promotes the global fan events and premieres that will roll out across the world in the weeks leading up to the movie's release. Alongside the announcement came a brand-new poster featuring David Corenswet's Man of Steel front and center, standing in the same classic pose we first saw in the teaser poster. The dates included on the image show which countries will host stops along the tour. No full itinerary just yet, but expect major cities and fan celebrations as Gunn and the cast go all in on getting people hyped. We're also getting a new featurette offering a glimpse at Corenswet's transformation into Superman including some behind-the-scenes footage and fresh shots from the film. There's also a tight little preview that gives fans a sense of the tone Gunn is going for and the physical and emotional journey Corenswet went through to step into the red boots. Corenswet recently shared a few personal moments about landing the role in an interview with Wonderland, and they're pretty great. 'I stepped away and answered the phone, and [Superman's director] James Gunn said, 'David, it's James Gunn.' And I said, 'Can you prove that?' Because I was in a suspicious mood.' He went on to say: 'I was able to tell my mom, aunt, uncle, sister, and wife before the news was made public. The last person I got to tell, a few hours after it was available publicly, was my high school theatre teacher, who was the one to convince me to audition for The Juilliard School and is a very close friend. 'He texted back, 'I'm doing a radio show for this theatre thing I'm involved with in Philly. I'll call you back.'' Corenswet continued: 'So, when he was done, I called him and asked, 'How's it going?' He replied, 'Oh, it's great! I was talking about this and that David, you know how it is…' I then said, 'Oh, did you tell them what it feels like to have your high school theatre student playing the next Superman?' 'And the phone just went dead. Then he exclaimed—I don't really remember what he said, but it was a really great phone call.' Superman will tell the story of 'Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. 'He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. 'It's set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU." It will be the first official film in the new DC Universe timeline, kicking off Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, a rollout that will eventually include five films and five shows, among them Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold , Clayface , Swamp Thing , and more. The cast of Superman also includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, Skyler Gisondo as Clark's best pal, Jimmy Olsen; Wendell Pierce as The Daily Planet's Perry White; Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl; Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders, aka Hawkgirl; and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. It also stars Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific; Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampan as Eve Teschmacher; Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason, aka Metamorphosis; Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.; Neva Howell as Martha Kent; and Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent. The movie is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.

Irish academic says ‘medical advice' to get 10k steps per day is a 'gimmick'
Professor Niall Moyna has said that the mantra began as a marketing ploy An Irish academic has said that the 'medical advice' to get 10,000 steps per day is a 'gimmick', not based on science. Niall Moyna, a professor of clinical exercise physiology at DCU told The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk that it began as a marketing ploy. 'Back 60-years ago, a Japanese company at the time of the Tokyo Olympic Games came up with the first wearable step counter. 'The name that they used for the counter meant '10,000 step metre', that's when it came into popular culture and has been there for 60-years with no empirical evidence to back it up,' he said. (Getty Images) News in 90 Seconds - May 28th Professor Moyna said that it has gained popularity in recent years because smartphones make it very easy to track how many steps you take. 'If you do nothing on a daily basis, you sit around at home, you're ambulating, going to the bathroom, making a cup of tea, nothing else, you would take around 1,500 to 2,000 steps a day,' he said. 'So, we tend to use 2,000 as a reference and anything above that, you're going to get a health benefit. 'Basically, if you take an extra 517 steps beyond that 2,000, you actually get an 8% reduction in the risk of dying from mortal causes. 'Then the sweet zone, what's the optimum dose that we would need to get, what's the maximum risk reduction with the least effort, it's extra, around 6,700 steps. 'That's around 8,000 steps per day, and you're getting a 60% reduction in dying from all causes.' 'It doesn't matter what the disease is, whether it's cardiovascular, dementia, diabetes. 'It seems to be the same effect - do something and you get enormous benefits, but if you go beyond a certain number, you don't get anywhere near the same benefit.' He said people will have health benefits if they take between 2,000 and 5,000 steps per day. 'I would advise to anyone out there to take 5,000 to 6,000 steps per day, most days of the week, you're going to get most of the benefits you can gain from walking.' 'Everything beyond that, that's a bonus.' Monya added that there is evidence to suggest that as you get older, you need to take fewer steps.
