DFW doctor returns from Gaza, describes devastating hunger crisis and urgent need for humanitarian aid
The Castle Hills Emergency Room in Carrollton is a stark contrast to what Dr. Bilal Piracha experienced over the last few weeks in Palestine. "This is sort of the impending doom; it is really the happening doom at this minute," Piracha said. "People are literally dying with the hunger; the hunger is killing them. Starvation is being used as a weapon." He just returned from Gaza and had already been to the Gaza Strip three times this year, doing humanitarian work at a local hospital. Piracha is an emergency medicine doctor in DFW. He also teaches at the University of Texas at Dallas and is a representative with the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Council of Social Justice. "Whenever I came back last time, I was always talking about hope, I was always talking about how people were resilient there, and they are still resilient, but they are at the breaking point," he said. Piracha said in his career, he's never experienced anything like what he's seen on the ground in Gaza. "I have seen a man who was there to get food for his family, being shot in the skull, and his whole skull was shattered, and the brain was coming out," Piracha told CBS News Texas. "I've seen dangling feet and dangling hands… A kid in front of our eyes, he was just skeletal." On Monday, President Donald Trump acknowledged the humanitarian crisis, saying that there was "real starvation" happening in Gaza, changing tune, breaking sides with U.S. ally Israel. "We're going to set up food centers, and we're going to do it in conjunction with some very good people, and we're going to supply funds, and we just took in trillions of dollars, and we're going to spend a little money on some food," Trump said during a meeting with the U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Piracha said he's thankful Trump is finally addressing the crisis, but said more needs to be done to help the families suffering. "We the people, we the public, have to make sure to ask our representatives, and make them responsible of what are they doing for the humans of Gaza, who have the right to live, who have the right to survive," he said. Piracha hopes to return to Gaza in the future. He's calling for a ceasefire immediately.

American Airlines will let some passengers skip the customs line at this airport
Travelers connecting from the United Kingdom through American Airlines' main hub in Dallas will now have a much smoother travel experience. American is piloting a one-stop security program that lets connecting passengers clear customs at the gate and not need to have their bags re-screened before proceeding to another flight in Dallas. "One Stop Security is one of the most forward-thinking enhancements we can bring to international travel – and importantly, to our customers – as it delivers a level of convenience and time-savings that's never been available before to customers connecting from international flights," David Seymour, American's Chief Operating Officer, said in a statement. "With this game-changing program and thanks to our federal partners at (Customs and Border Protection) and (the Transportation Security Administration), along with (Dallas Fort Worth) Airport, our customers will spend significantly less time worrying about an onerous connection process and more time enjoying their travel journey,' he said. The airline expects the program to reduce connection times for eligible passengers by more than half. For now, the program is only a pilot available to passengers departing London Heathrow and connecting to American Airlines flights at DFW, but the airline said it "plans to explore opportunities to expand OSS to additional flights and U.S. airports in the future." American Airlines announced a similar program at London's Heathrow Airport in February, where passengers departing DFW and connecting onto international (non-U.K.) flights could avoid going through security re-screening in London. (This story was updated to clarify the security process.) Zach Wichter is a travel reporter and writes the Cruising Altitude column for USA TODAY. Hot seasonable week on tap for North Texas with temperatures expected in the 100s
Another hot yet seasonable July day is on tap. Expect partly cloudy skies with the high temperature reaching the mid-90s and winds from the south gusting up to 20 mph. There is still a moderate amount of moisture in the atmosphere, causing the feel-like temperatures to climb into the triple-digits. However, the dew points will be lower than Saturday, so heat index values won't reach the heat advisory criteria. Daytime heating will allow for a few pop-up showers during the late afternoon and evening. The potential for a 10 to 20% chance of rain will encompass cities to the south of I-20 and east of I-35. Most of North Texas will be dry. Monday, the heat dome begins to build across the Central United States. A ridge of high pressure will gradually dominate the weather pattern this next week. Compressional heating from the sinking, dry air will clear the skies and increase temperatures. It has been 338 days since DFW Airport recorded a triple-digit day. The streak looks to end this week. By next weekend, the ridge weakens, bringing temperatures down a few degrees and increasing the rain chances.
