Ground stop at DFW early Tuesday; 940+ flights delayed, canceled in Texas. Track status
Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is under a ground stop — again — with hundreds of flights canceled or delayed early Tuesday. The latest alert marks the second consecutive day of disruptions at one of the nation's busiest airports. The culprit? A jammed-up weather pattern is poised to bring heavy rainfall, flooding, and even tornadoes to parts of Texas and beyond. The pattern, known as an omega block, is named for the way the jet stream bends into the shape of the Greek letter omega — Ω. It traps a high-pressure system over the northern Plains, flanked by two low-pressure systems on either side. As the block shifts or breaks down, those surrounding systems are free to push stormy weather southward, including into Texas. More: Hail and tornadoes possible over Texas. See map of real-time weather watches, warnings This stagnant system follows on the heels of a soggy late April and is expected to stick around for a few more days before clearing out by the weekend. Since early last week, DFW Airport has delayed or canceled more than 5,000 flights as waves of severe storms swept across North Texas. The region recorded 5.22 inches of rain in April, two inches above the monthly average of 3.22 inches. Severe weather has also disrupted operations at several other Texas airports, leading to nearly 950 flight cancellations across the state as of early Tuesday, with additional cancellations expected throughout the day. Weather-related delays are also impacting Love Field and Austin-Bergstrom International, and Houston's William P. Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental airports. More: What is a tornado watch? Severe storms bring possible apple-sized hail, tornadoes to Texas When will flights resume as normal in Texas? At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a ground stop, which temporarily halts flights headed to the airport, was initially scheduled to end at 10:15 a.m but has been extended to 11:15 a.m. However, continued delays are likely if severe weather continues. Currently, a ground delay remains in effect until 8 p.m., meaning arriving flights are being held at their departure airports due to limited airspace or ground capacity as storms move through the area. Average delays are currently around 76 minutes. Texas airport delays: See live flight status See up-to-date information on Texas' 10 busiest airports. The Department of Transportation created a dashboard for travelers to easily access information about services that U.S. airlines provide in the case of cancellations or delays. A new rule from the DOT that went into effect at the end of October requires airlines to refund passengers if their flight is significantly delayed for reasons within the carrier's control and also makes airlines more responsible for This article originally appeared on Austin American-Statesman: FAA issues ground stop at DFW again. American Airlines, DFW Airport plan $4B terminal
DFW Airport's sixth terminal will be almost double its originally planned size and will have only American Airlines flights, the airport announced Thursday. Why it matters: The airport, almost midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, has been critical to the population and business growth of the region. "We as an airport have to stay ahead of that growth. We can never be a constraint," DFW Airport CEO Sean Donohue said at a news conference Thursday. The big picture: DFW Airport was the world's third-busiest airport last year, following Atlanta and Dubai. Terminal F will give American Airlines and DFW Airport a "clear path to building the largest single airline hub in the world," American Airlines CEO Robert Isom says. The latest: The Fort Worth-based airline plans to spend $4 billion on the terminal, which will have 31 gates and its own parking, baggage claims and security area. The initial design had 15 gates and would have required travelers to check in at Terminal E, then take the Skylink to Terminal F. State of planes: American will operate exclusively in the terminal, freeing up gates at Terminal E for other domestic airlines. Renovations in Terminals A and C should be completed before the FIFA Men's World Cup next year, Donohue said. Terminal C already has a few upgraded gates with digital signs, a robotic barista and a restaurant that serves Dirk Nowitzki's favorite meals. What they're saying:"I've always called Terminal D the crown jewel of DFW Airport. When Terminal F opens, it's going to take that forward," Donohue said.

Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Introduces SmartSort Recycling Bins in Partnership with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport
DFW Airport Partners with Local Coca-Cola Bottler to Bring AI-Driven Recycling Technology, Enhancing Sustainability and Simplifying Waste Management for Travelers DALLAS, April 22, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages (CCSWB), the local Coca-Cola bottler for Texas and parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas, has partnered with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to enhance sustainability efforts for travelers. Together, DFW and CCSWB have installed four smart recycling bins powered by SmartSort Technologies, Inc. These AI-enabled bins make it easy for travelers to separate recyclables from waste, creating a cleaner, more eco-friendly airport experience. Inside the airport, CCSWB installed dual-stream bins in Terminals D and E with receptacles for waste and recycling. Similarly, DFW Airport Headquarters and the Department of Public Safety each received a triple-stream unit, which offers a compost bin in addition to waste and recycling. As users approach, each unit's camera scans their items and displays appropriate disposal directions on the screen. SmartSort invests in sustainable technology to create better out-of-home recycling solutions for various industries. Many of these solutions include waste stream efficiency, source separation and data aggregation. "The introduction of AI-powered recycling bins enhances the traveler experience and reinforces our efforts to create a more sustainable airport through innovation and technology," said Robert Horton, DFW's Vice President of Environmental Affairs and Sustainability Department. "Incremental steps like this can build better traveler habits that help reduce waste, increase recycling and engage our customers in new and exciting ways." In addition to instant feedback on items for disposal, the units also provide data that allows the airport to monitor its long-term sustainability efforts. Over time, each bin tracks the quantity of materials recycled and provides detailed information on the items' final destinations, promoting greater transparency and accountability in the recycling process. "It takes time to create meaningful change, and our focus is on introducing long-term solutions that truly make a difference in reducing waste and promoting sustainability," said Abraham Tueme, Director of Sustainability, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages. "Installing SmartSort units at DFW Airport allows us to advance recycling efforts in our community in a way that benefits both travelers and the local environment." This partnership follows CCSWB's previous success with AI-powered recycling solutions. In 2023, the company launched 12 SmartSort units at the American Airlines Center during the NCAA Women's Final Four Tournament. Following this initiative's success, nine additional SmartSort solutions were installed, bringing the total to 21 units. Medal of Honor motorcade heads from DFW Airport to Gainesville Wednesday afternoon
Expect heavier-than-usual traffic and maybe even some delays along Highway 114 and I-35 on Wednesday as the Medal of Honor motorcade travels from DFW Airport to Gainesville. The Medal of Honor plane will land at DFW Wednesday afternoon, with the official motorcade expected to take off around 4 p.m. Hundreds of law enforcement, first responders, and patriotic motorcycle riders are expected to join the motorcade as it departs the airport. The motorcade will pass through Grapevine, Southlake, Northlake and on into Fort Worth as the motorcade heads north on I-35W. Southlake police have said they will shut down the "Texas turnaround" portion of the Carroll Avenue bridge over Highway 114 starting at 3:30 p.m. today. This will give anyone who wants to see the motorcade a safe place to view it. If traffic is not your thing, you might want to consider a different route if your usual drive home is along Highway 114. The motorcade is expected to arrive in Gainesville at Tractor Bob's at 5:15 p.m. The Medal of Honor week continues through Saturday, with events in Gainesville over the next four days.
