Dear Richard Madeley: ‘Should we refuse to shell out any more on this wedding?'

Dear Richard We've got a big family wedding coming up, and between travel logistics, kids' exams and getting time off work, it has been a bit of a mission to arrange everything. It's also cost us a fortune, from train tickets to clothes. Now we have had an estimated bill from the bride's mother for accommodation, which we expected, but also a share of the rehearsal dinner and various 'extras' including local transport costs, which we didn't. (Our son, the groom's first cousin, is DJing at the evening do, unpaid, so the least we expected was for him to be let off some of these costs, which he hasn't been.) The total is creeping up to a point where we would have seriously considered sending our apologies had we known. My husband says we should just not pay, or pay a 'reasonable' sum, as one is supposed to be allowed to do after a disappointing meal at a restaurant. It's been a while since we've been involved with anything like this so we don't know the protocols, but as far as we knew the bride's parents were doing the heavy lifting, in the traditional way (as we expect to do with our two girls). To return to the restaurant analogy, we feel as though we have moved to that awkward situation where everyone pays for their own food and the evening dissolves into bickering about garlic bread. It's too late not to go, and we want to support our nephew, but we feel taken advantage of. Must we simply submit? — Anon, via email Dear Anon, This is definitely one of the trickier letters I've received for these pages. I had to read it several times before I could start to work out exactly what's at play here. Even then, I consulted my wife Judy (she's something of an expert on wedding etiquette) before forming this reply. One. It is, as you say, perfectly reasonable to ask you to pay for your own accommodation costs. Two. I would suggest that the same applies to the dinner following the wedding rehearsal. It's not as if you're being asked to contribute to the costs of the wedding reception on the day itself. The rehearsal – a recently imported concept from the US, and pretty daft and unnecessary if you ask me – is very much a voluntary occasion. I certainly wouldn't bother going to one. But if I did, and joined in the dinner afterwards, I would expect to pay for my meal, wine etc. Three. Local transport – by which I assume you mean some sort of coach to the wedding itself, on to the reception afterwards, and then back to your hotel… yes, this does seem a little 'tight' but perhaps the bride's parents are as concerned about costs as… well… YOU are. But if you remain uncomfortable about these demands, and given you say you're committed to attending the wedding, here's what I suggest. Make your own alternative arrangements. Book your own accommodation. By all means go to the 'rehearsal', but have dinner afterwards somewhere else on your own ticket. Order local taxis on the day to and from all the various locations. But I'm still a bit puzzled by your letter. Are there other, deeper issues at play here? Some problem in your relationship with the bride's mother? #justasking!

EXCLUSIVE DJ Pete Tong makes rare comments about his kids as he admits his family have kept him 'grounded' throughout successful career

Pete Tong has opened up on how his family have 'kept him grounded' throughout his successful career. The DJ and Radio 1 star, 64, has become one of the biggest names in dance music over the years, and jets across the world to perform for adoring fans. And despite keeping his family life relatively private, Pete made rare comments about his kids in an exclusive interview with MailOnline this week. Pete shares three children with his ex-wife Deborah. Their marriage broke down in 2003. Pete also has another child and two step-children with his second wife Carolina Acosta, who he married in 2006. He explained how he tried to created a 'more regular environment' for his kids growing up, and admits they are the reason he still has a successful career. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Speaking on how he juggles the fame with his family life, Pete shared: 'It is definitely a challenge, and you learn a lot along the way. It also keeps you really grounded as well with that responsibility and that to go home to, and I would like to think that is a big reason why I'm still doing what I'm doing. 'When I started DJing, I made a decision early on that I would only do the bits I really wanted to do and loved. 'I didn't want to be on radio seven days a week and I didn't want to be gigging seven nights a week. I wanted to pick and choose. 'So I kind of always had a day job when I first started, as DJing wasn't seen to be the be all and end all and the money wasn't the same from when I started to what it is now so that created a more regular environment around my kids.' Speaking about his kids supporting him at sets, he explained: 'When they were young they started coming to things like Café Mambo. And then when they were too young to legally go to clubs is when the demand was highest that they wanted to go. 'When they first could go, they were around quite a bit. They've moved on and have their own lives now and are not necessarily interested in what I'm doing. 'Now I'm like, "do you want to come?" They tend to show up for the orchestra, I don't force them.' Several of Pete's kids have followed in his footsteps, including daughter Becky who is also a DJ. Pete and Jules are celebrating a decade of their Ibiza Classics with a string of shows at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall Meanwhile, his oldest son Joe is a music producer, while his other son Matt also partly works in the music industry. Pete is currently celebrating a decade of his and Jules Buckley's Ibiza Classics with a string of shows at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall. The pair first teamed up in 2015 to perform for BBC Proms, an annual summer series bringing daily classical music to the Royal Albert Hall, but have went on to tour Europe with the orchestra. Each of the four shows will feature unique programming, including appearances from guest vocalists Becky Hill, Jacob Lusk (Gabriels), Jazzy, Clementine Douglas, and Barbara Tucker. Guest DJs Seth Troxler, Damian Lazarus, David Morales, and Paul Oakenfold will also join the show. Speaking about returning to the Royal Albert Hall after ten years, he said: 'It is surreal and inspiring to come into such a historical place doing what we are doing. 'But it isn't a nightclub, so you treat it in a different way. We are all super excited to be back.' And fans will be thrilled to hear that Pete has no plans to stop after ten years: 'There was a time five years ago when we said we would probably end it if we made it to ten, but now we never want to end it!' Pete Tong Ibiza Classics is at the Royal Albert Hall, London, May 29-Jun 1. The broadcaster is also due to bring his acclaimed show to six UK arenas in December 2025. Kicking off in Glasgow on December 4, the upcoming run of shows also includes stop-offs in Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham. The tour will conclude with two gigs at The O2 in London on December 12 and 13.

13-Year-Old with Brain and Spinal Cancer Faces New Health Struggle 2 Months After Becoming Honorary Secret Service Agent

DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old honorary U.S. Secret Service agent living with brain and spinal cancer, has three new tumors DJ's father Theodis Daniel shared the health update at a May 19 swearing-in ceremony, two months after President Donald Trump made DJ an honorary agent 'It's rough — there isn't a class that can teach you how to deal with it,' Theodis said about his son's latest diagnosisAs a small child, Devarjaye 'DJ' Daniel was given months to live. In 2018, the Texas native was diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer, with doctors giving him five months to live, according to the United States Secret Service. Five months turned into five years. Now, after seven years and more than 13 brain surgeries, DJ is still standing. But a new diagnosis has shaken his family and supporters. When the teen — who wants to be a police officer — was sworn in as an honorary agent of the U.S. Secret Service in March, his father Theodis Daniel said DJ's family is hopeful about his future, thanks in part to a research study he is participating in. 'He's beating the odds," Theodis said at the time. But two months later, the proud parent shared that the odds have changed. During a swearing-in ceremony at Williamson County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) in Texas, Theodis told FOX 7 Austin that the teen is 'just winging it day by day' in the face of new health hardships. 'He does have three new tumors,' the father told the Texas outlet at the May 19 ceremony. 'It's rough — there isn't a class that can teach you how to deal with it. You're hearing that your child has a nasty disease.' But DJ, whose desire to become a law enforcement officer stemmed from his family's experiences during Hurricane Harvey, has already achieved his goal, according to FOX 7. He has been sworn in by more than 1,300 agencies, including multiple on May 19. And his family remains hopeful. Amid DJ's health struggles, Theodis told FOX 7, 'We're just going around showing people, 'Hey, you do care for one another. Let's give compassion and let's try to join and help each other get through things.' ' Perhaps the crowning jewel of DJ's honorary law enforcement titles is U.S. Secret Service agent. President Donald Trump bestowed him with the honor on March 4 in a joint address to Congress. 'Tonight, DJ, we're going to do you the biggest honor of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service,' Trump, 78, told the teen, whose eyes widened upon hearing the news. The following day, DJ also visited the president in the Oval Office. And, after his father shared his latest health update in Texas, the White House released a statement of support for the teen. 'We're lifting up Agent DJ Daniel in prayer after his dad, Theodis, shared that DJ is now facing three new tumors,' an X post from the White House said. 'DJ is one of the strongest, bravest young men—and has now been sworn into 1,351 law enforcement agencies across the country," the post continued. "Agent Daniel, you're a true legend. 🇺🇸.' DJ Daniel, cancer stricken little Secret Service Agent, stuns netizens with heartbreaking ‘tumor' diagnosis

DJ Daniel, also known as Devarjaye, recently came to limelight when President Donald Trump's administration appointed him as an honorary Secret Service agent. The 13-year-old cancer survivor teen is now facing three new tumours. 'DJ, we're going to do you the biggest honor of them all,' Trump declared in a March 4 speech to Congress. 'I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service.' Taking to its official account, White House described him as 'one of the strongest, bravest young men.' The White House went on to call DJ a 'true legend.' When DJ was originally diagnosed in 2018, his prognosis was limited to five months. 'We're lifting up Agent DJ Daniel in prayer after his dad, Theodis, shared that DJ is now facing three new tumors,' the White House said. 'DJ is one of the strongest, bravest young men—and has now been sworn into 1,351 law enforcement agencies across the country.' The White House's reaction came as Theodis, DJ's father, disclosed that his son had 'three new tumors' and that they were 'winging it day by day' in an interview with Fox7 News. 'It's rough, there isn't a class that can teach you how to deal with it. You're hearing that your child has a nasty disease,' DJ's dad told the outlet. Also Read: Elon Musk breaks silence on new bombshell drug abuse charge, netizens react; 'It's funny that…' Meanwhile, several people on X expressed concern for DJ's health. 'Praying for the little man! 🙏 Jesus please watch over DJ and his family,' one X user wrote. 'I hope he's not on Medicaid,' another commented. 'Heavenly Father we pray for DJ we asked for a healing that your glory be known. We pray for strength for his family,' a third user said. Stressing that agent DJ Daniel has 'more heart, courage, and public service to his name than most of the folks who've sat behind that desk. A real hero in a room full of actors.' According to Breitbart News, DJ was initially diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer at the age of six. In a recent Instagram video, DJ disclosed that he had undergone thirteen operations. DJ urged children facing cancer to 'listen to their parents and have faith, believe in God.'
